This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 1: Touch Grass

 What I Built

doe

s it do, and how does it get people off the screen and into the world? Who is it for? -

Bio trail AI is an open source, local first botanical companion and safety engine built to get people safely outside and exploring nature.

WHAT IT DOES: provides instant, offline species identification and match scoring (such as identifying plants like Gloriosa Superba with high accuracy).

HOW IT GETS IT OFF PEOPLE OFF SCREEN: IT equips hikers and outdoor explorers with an instant on-device reference tool, encouraging screen-free exploration by providing immediate plant toxicity alrets, safety hazard warnings and first aid home care instructions right on the trail.

 Demo

Share a deployed link or a video demo. --> https://biotrail.onrender.com

 Code

Show us the code! You can embed a GitHub repo directly into your post. -->
https://github.com/charmainesekulane232/biotrail-ai

 How I Built It

Architecture: Designed around a 100% local embedded engine to process species identification and safety checks instantly on device with sub-2ms latency.

Safety& Emergency integration: features localized hazard classification (touch and ingestion warnings) and direct integration with local emergency resources like the poison information helpline(south Africa)

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

open sources and local first ensures that hikers can access life-saving first aid and toxicity data even in remote areas without internet access.
keeping plant scans and location data entirely on device protects user privacy while promoting safer engagement with the natural world
