  ¿Qué es SCORM?
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;SCORM es un estándar internacional para cursos &lt;a href="https://www.ispring.es/blog/what-is-elearning"&gt;eLearning&lt;/a&gt;. Si tu curso ha sido publicado en el formato SCORM, puedes estar seguro de que casi todos los sistemas de gestión de aprendizaje, o LMS por sus siglas en inglés (Learning Management System), lo reconocerán. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Los estándares son importantes en cualquier campo. Tomemos la industria del cine como ejemplo. Cuando compras un DVD, estás seguro de que podrás verlo en cualquier reproductor de DVD: Toshiba o Panasonic – realmente no importa. Esto es posible porque el DVD es un estándar aceptado; es por eso que los estudios de filmación no tienen que producir diferentes tipos de discos para cada marca de reproductor.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Desafortunadamente, esa fue la situación en eLearning en la década de los 2000: los cursos eran creados para una plataforma. Un curso de eLearning creado para un sistema no funcionaba en otro. Si una universidad cambiaba su LMS, perdería su colección completa de cursos, así como también miles de dólares gastados en su desarrollo. En 2001, el formato SCORM puso en orden al mercado de eLearning.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;De hecho, SCORM, es una lista técnica de requerimientos. Esta lista nos dice cómo hacer un curso que funcionará en cualquier plataforma – existe una descripción detallada de la estructura del curso eLearning y los principios de su interacción con los &lt;a href="https://www.ispring.es/blog/what-is-lms"&gt;LMS&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

  ¿Qué es un paquete SCORM?
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Finalmente, los desarrolladores de eLearning comenzaron a ajustarse a un estándar consistente. Ahora, todos los materiales de capacitación son empaquetados en un paquete SCORM, un archivo .zip que contiene archivos en una jerarquía específica. Abrir un paquete SCORM en un LMS se ha convertido en una actividad tan fácil como reproducir un DVD en un reproductor de DVD.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Por supuesto, que fue posible crear un archivo con imágenes, video, texto, y todo lo necesario para un curso de eLearning antes de que SCORM fuese inventado. Sin embargo, un LMS no reconocería ese archivo. Para que el curso funcionase en un LMS, es importante organizar los archivos y escribir el código para su interacción. Todo eso requiere conocimiento técnico y entendimiento de las reglas SCORM. &lt;/p&gt;

  Beneficios del formato SCORM
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Compatibilidad&lt;/strong&gt;. Casi cualquier LMS reconocerá un curso SCORM. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Guardar el progreso&lt;/strong&gt;. Un estudiante no tiene que hacer todo el curso de una vez. Puede hacerse paso a paso. Una media hora de trabajo, 10 minutos de descanso, y el estudiante puede continuar la lección desde el lugar donde lo dejó. Todo el progreso permanece guardado. Esto también es conveniente cuando el sistema falla o el curso se cierra ocasionalmente.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Comentarios de retroalimentación&lt;/strong&gt;. Podrás evaluar el progreso de los estudiantes. Cuando Joe College complete el curso de eLearning, el sistema mostrará cuántos puntos ha obtenido, o el estatus “Curso completado” se mostrará.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Una clara estructura de curso&lt;/strong&gt;. Puedes crear una estructura clara para el curso y establecer las reglas para moverse entre sus secciones. Por ejemplo, los estudiantes quizás necesiten estudiar una clase primero, luego ver un video, y solo después pueden hacer la evaluación final. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Modularidad&lt;/strong&gt;. En un curso SCORM, los materiales de capacitación consisten en unidades individuales, o módulos. Cada módulo puede ser usado en cualquier otro curso dentro del LMS.&lt;/li&gt;

  Versiones de SCORM
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Actualmente existen dos versiones de SCORM: 1.2 y 2004. Cada versión tiene sus propias características técnicas y ventajas:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Versión 1.2&lt;/strong&gt; indica el progreso del estudiante en el reporte, eso es, cuanto del curso ha estudiado el participante. Por ejemplo, “El Estudiante Joe ha estudiado el 70% del curso.” Si Joe estudió el curso completo, el sistema mostrará el estatus “Completado”.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;SCORM 2004&lt;/strong&gt; ofrece más información detallada. Además del progreso y el estatus, muestra cuántos puntos obtuvo Joe al completar el curso y pasar la evaluación.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

  Herramientas para crear cursos SCORM
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;En el pasado, solo los programadores profesionales podían desarrollar cursos SCORM. Era un proceso técnicamente complejo: los desarrolladores manualmente construían los cursos eLearning a partir de un número de páginas de HTML, escribían el código que enlazaba al curso con el LMS, y luego empaquetaban todo en un archivo .zip.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Hoy en día, todos podemos crear un curso eLearning usando un editor especial.  El software automáticamente generará el código para la interacción con el LMS y empaquetará todos los materiales de capacitación en un paquete SCORM. Todo lo que debes hacer es simplemente subir tu curso al sistema de aprendizaje. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Los editores para crear cursos SCORM se pueden dividir en tres grupos: &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Editores independientes &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Servicios de la nube en línea &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Complementos de PowerPoint &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Si estás desarrollando tu primer curso eLearning, es mejor usar un complemento de PowerPoint por las siguientes dos razones:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;No necesitarás emplear tiempo para aprender un programa nuevo. 
Si alguna vez has realizado una presentación, entonces crearás el curso en PowerPoint mucho más rápido, ya que el principio es el mismo.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Puedes tomar cualquier presentación de PowerPoint que uses en clase con tus estudiantes como una base para el curso.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

  ¿Cómo convertir una presentación en un curso SCORM?

&lt;p&gt;Te tomará unos pocos minutos crear un curso educacional profesional a partir de una presentación común de PowerPoint. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;Descarga una prueba gratis de iSpring Suite.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Abre la presentación que te gustaría convertir en eLearning.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;El contenido que has agregado al sistema puede abrirse con cualquier computadora usando un buscador de Internet.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Lo único que te queda por hacer es compartir el curso con los estudiantes. Si usas iSpring Learn LMS, puedes enviar invitaciones a través del correo electrónico. Especifica una o varias direcciones de correo electrónico, y sus dueños tendrán acceso al curso instantáneamente. &lt;/p&gt;

  SCORM hoy y mañana
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Aún cuando SCORM está un poco desactualizado tecnológicamente, todavía domina el mercado eLearning. SCORM 1.2 y SCORM 2004 se han convertido en los estándares de tecnología más populares. Según una encuesta conducida por Software Advice, 62% de los negocios utilizan cursos SCORM para capacitaciones en sus LMS. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sin embargo, algunos expertos creen que otros estándares de eLearning dominarán en el futuro. Más recientemente, la evolución de SCORM ha traído los formatos Tin Can API (xAPI) y сmi5.       <title>eLearning Standards Comparison: AICC vs SCORM vs xAPI vs cmi5</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;There are a number of eLearning standards that are supported by various authoring platforms and learning management systems, and they all have pros and cons. Oftentimes you’ll need to make a call on which standard best supports the goals of you and your client, taking into account such things as the delivery format, whether tracking is required and to what degree, how the course will be consumed, etc. So it’s important to understand the peculiarities of each eLearning standard, and which one to choose for specific tasks. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We’ve conducted a thorough analysis of all existing eLearning standards, and we’re sure it’ll help you understand the differences between them and make an informed choice for your next project. Now let’s take a closer look at each of them.&lt;/p&gt;

  &lt;strong&gt;AICC&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;AICC is a very early eLearning standard. It was created in 1988 by the Aviation Industry Computer-Based Training Committee to standardize the materials and technology used to train airline workers.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The AICC standard uses the HTTP AICC Communication Protocol (HACP) to communicate between an LMS and the course content. The HACP methodology is quite straightforward, using an HTML form and simple text strings to transmit information to and from the LMS.&lt;/p&gt;

  &lt;strong&gt;AICC today&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The original AICC standard is still used by many organizations for legacy reasons, so it’s unlikely the standard will completely disappear anytime soon, but for all intents and purposes, it’s a dead standard.&lt;/p&gt;

  &lt;strong&gt;Reasons to consider &lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Given that AICC is extremely old by technology standards, is there anything it can still do better than the newer standards that have followed? Actually, there are a couple of areas where AICC still has an advantage:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Security:&lt;/strong&gt; AICC is more secure. It supports highly secure HTTPS data transfers between the content and the LMS. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Deployment flexibility:&lt;/strong&gt; AICC content can be stored on a separate server or domain from the one where the LMS is hosted, which allows for more flexible deployment configurations.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;h3&gt;
  
  
  &lt;strong&gt;Downsides&lt;/strong&gt; 
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There are several weaknesses to AICC as a technical standard, as you would expect from a standard of this age:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;No course tracking:&lt;/strong&gt; AICC can’t track course progress in any meaningful way; it has the most limited tracking and reporting capabilities of the current major standards.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Limited compliance:&lt;/strong&gt; There’s a wide spectrum of what is considered AICC compliant, and while it’s relatively easy to find a system that’s technically compliant, it may lack important features that will require manual coding to add.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;No more updates:&lt;/strong&gt; The AICC group disbanded in 2014, so the AICC standard won’t receive any more updates. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Lessening support from eLearning developers:&lt;/strong&gt; Most course authoring tools and learning management systems still support AICC at a basic level, but course developers and instructional designers are increasingly choosing more modern standards.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

  &lt;strong&gt;Final verdict&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/h3&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Although AICC remains interesting as a way to gauge how far eLearning standards have come, it’s not worthy of consideration as it’s an outdated standard and there are newer, better options available.&lt;/p&gt;

  &lt;strong&gt;SCORM (1.2 &amp;amp; 2004)&lt;/strong&gt;
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="https://www.ispringsolutions.com/blog/scorm-course"&gt;SCORM&lt;/a&gt;, short for Sharable Content Object Reference Model, was first published by the US government’s Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) project in 2000, and is the de-facto standard for eLearning content. The standard, is, in fact, a set of technical standards that were designed to address the issues of its predecessor, AICC. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;SCORM provides the communication method and data models that allow eLearning content and an LMS to work together. All the training materials for one course are packed into a SCORM package, a .zip archive that contains files in a specific hierarchy. To deliver your e-courses via an LMS, SCORM has its three main components that work together :&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Content packaging: This outputs the course in a ZIP file.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Run-time: This launches the course in a web browser.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Sequencing: This dictates how your learners navigate through the course.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;SCORM 1.2 became the default technical standard to deliver eLearning via an LMS, and has massive support both from authoring tools and learning management systems. SCORM 1.2 was superseded by SCORM 2004.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;LMS-only deployment:&lt;/strong&gt; SCORM tracking is only possible via an LMS, so if you’re planning to deploy directly via a website or mobile app, SCORM won’t be able to help you.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Non-native HTML5 support:&lt;/strong&gt; SCORM content was originally Flash-based. With Flash being deprecated, everything is now moving towards HTML5. &lt;strong&gt;Personal data lockers:&lt;/strong&gt; Your learners can have their own “personal data lockers” with their personal learning information inside them. These can be transported between different organizations.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Performance metric setup:&lt;/strong&gt; The hard work is in setting up performance metrics and measuring improvement through various learning activities.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Measuring impact:&lt;/strong&gt; Just reporting that a learner did something doesn’t show qualitatively or quantitatively whether that activity had any impact on knowledge or performance.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Data usefulness:&lt;/strong&gt; The wider value of new eLearning standards like xAPI is data, but the data is meaningless out of context. So unless you have a plan in place on how to correlate activity to performance and context, the value of xAPI may be significantly less.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;cmi5 introduces a file named &lt;code&gt;cmi5.xml&lt;/code&gt;. This is similar to a SCORM manifest file as it contains XML metadata that describes a Course Structure as a series of container blocks and Assignable Units (AUs). This file is provided to cmi5 compatible launching systems (e.g. LMSs) for import. An AU is the launchable content of the package, and the content assets can be included inside the package or hosted remotely.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Credential handshake:&lt;/strong&gt; As part of the launch process, the AU retrieves credentials from the launch system in a separate request that allows those credentials to only be provided once. &lt;strong&gt;Same window launch:&lt;/strong&gt; Content can launch in the same window as the LMS. The LMS disappears and the content opens. When the content is done, it disappears and the LMS returns.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Distributed content:&lt;/strong&gt; Content can reside anywhere, for example on a mobile device.&lt;/li&gt;
