      <title>Local Nodal Metastasis associated with Humeral Chondrosarcoma within a Dog.</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Storage lesions (SLs) occur when the red blood cell quality is altered during the preservation of blood units. Pre-storage leukoreduction would limit the number of SLs. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of a leukoreduction filter for human use and the effect of pre-storage leukoreduction on some ematobiochemical parameters in stored canine whole blood. Seven canine blood units were tested. Each one was divided into two units-one leukoreduced (LRWB) and one non-leukoreduced (nLRWB). On each unit, we determined the complete blood count (CBC), lactate-dehydrogenase (LDH), electrolytes (Na+, K+, Cl-), morphological index (MI) and hemolysis, on storage days 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42. Leukoreduction allowed a 98.30% recovery of the RBC count, retaining 99.69% and 94.91% of WBCs and PLTs, respectively. We detected a significant increase of LDH and MI with strongly higher values in nLRWB compared to LRWB. A progressive increase in electrolytes and LDH concentrations was observed as indices of stored hemolysis. LDH showed significantly lower values in LRWB units compared to nLRWB, suggesting its release from leukocytes. In the majority of units, hemolysis reached 1% on the 42nd day of storage. We assert the human leukoreduction filter effectiveness on canine whole blood, and we recommend using nLRWB before day 14, especially for critically ill patients. The difference of the basal hemolysis (day 0) percentages observed between subjects suggests that more studies should be performed to confirm a possible inter-individual donor biological variability of RBC membrane resistance, as happens in humans.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a debilitating neurological disorder, and currently, there is no cure for it. The classic hallmarks of AD, including amyloid plaques (Aβ) and tau tangles (tau), are the most studied features of AD. Unfortunately, all the efforts targeting these pathologies have failed to show the desired efficacy in AD patients so far. Neuroinflammation and impaired autophagy are two other main known pathologies in AD. It has been reported that these pathologies exist in AD brain long before the emergence of any clinical manifestation of AD. Microglia are the main inflammatory cells in the brain and are considered by many researchers as the next hope for finding a viable therapeutic target in AD. Interestingly, it appears that the autophagy and mitophagy are also changed in these cells in AD. Inside the cells, autophagy and inflammation interact in a bidirectional manner. In the current review, we briefly discussed an overview on autophagy and mitophagy in AD and then provided a comprehensive discussion on the role of these pathways in microglia and their involvement in AD pathogenesis.Nurses working in palliative care are at risk of burnout. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory was used to determine burnout levels of nurses working in the Portuguese national network of palliative care. We evaluated the contribution of personal, work, and COVID-19 variables in three burnout subclasses personal, work, and patient-related. A cross-sectional, exploratory, and quantitative design was employed and participants were sampled using convenience and snowball technique. An online survey was conducted and 153 nurses participated in our study. Socio-demographic characterization was conducted, levels of burnout and determinants were explored through multiple linear regression models for its three dimensions. High levels of personal, working, and patient burnout were present in 71 (46%), 68 (44%), and 33 nurses (22%), respectively. Most of them agreed that COVID-19 had an impact on their activities. Significant personal and work related burnout factors found were specialization in palliative care, self-perceived health status, unit type, weekly hours of work, and allocation to COVID-19 units. Gender was found to be a significant factor in patient-related burnout. There is a high level of burnout among nurses working in the Portuguese national network of palliative care. Measures for identification and mitigation of burnout are necessary to protect health care professionals.A novel type of magnetic α-Fe2O3/Fe3O4 heterogeneous nanoparticles was prepared via a facile solution combustion process with ferric nitrate and urea as raw materials, and they were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, and VSM techniques. The effects of the calcination temperature, the calcination time, the ratio of ferric nitrate and urea, and the heating rate on the relative content of Fe3O4 in the heterogeneous nanoparticles were investigated. The toxicity of α-Fe2O3/Fe3O4 heterogeneous nanoparticles to human hepatocytes L-02, the blood routine, and the histopathological section observation of mice were explored. The results showed that the ratio of ferric nitrate and urea was a key factor to affect the relative content of Fe3O4 in the heterogeneous nanoparticles. The CCK8 results initially revealed that α-Fe2O3/Fe3O4 heterogeneous nanoparticles had no effect on cell viability when the concentration of the heterogeneous nanoparticles was less than 100 ng/mL, which suggested their excellent biocompatibility. The B-LiFe mobile laboratory in Piedmont, Italy, was deployed for the surveillance of COVID-19 cases by large-scale testing of first responders. The objective was to assess the seroconversion among the regional civil protection (CP), police, health care professionals, and volunteers. The secondary objective was to detect asymptomatic individuals within this cohort in the light of age, sex, and residence. In this paper, we report the results of serological testing performed by the B-LiFe mobile laboratory deployed from 10 June to 23 July 2020.       <description>&lt;p&gt;Bronchial smooth muscle (BSM) remodelling in asthma is related to an increased mitochondrial biogenesis and enhanced BSM cell proliferation in asthma. Since (i) mitochondria produce the highest levels of cellular energy and (ii) fatty acid beta-oxidation is the most powerful way to produce ATP, we hypothesized that, in asthmatic BSM cells, energetic metabolism is shifted towards the beta-oxidation of fatty acids. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We aimed to characterize BSM cell metabolism in asthma both &lt;br&gt;
 and &lt;br&gt;
 to identify a novel target for reducing BSM cell proliferation. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Twenty-one asthmatic and 31 non-asthmatic patients were enrolled. We used metabolomic and proteomic approaches to study BSM cells. Oxidative stress, ATP synthesis, fatty acid endocytosis, metabolite production, metabolic capabilities, mitochondrial networks, cell proliferation and apoptosis were assessed on BSM cells. Fatty acid content was assessed &lt;br&gt;
 using MALDI-spectrometry imaging. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Asthmatic BSM cells were characterized by an increased rate of mitochondrial respiration with a stimulated ATP production and mitochondrial β-oxidation. Fatty acid consumption was increased in asthmatic BSM both &lt;br&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We examined the reason for visits to primary care physicians using the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) from 1980-2015. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Among all physicians, the percent of visits for prevention increased from 17% in 2001 to 20% in 2015. Among visits to primary care, most continued to be for acute problems - with the percent of visits for acute illness declining over the past 15 years, after remaining steady for two decades. Preventive care visits increased from 19% in 2001 to 26% in 2015. The percent of primary care visits for chronic conditions declined between 1980 and 2000, and then remained steady, accounting for 30% in 2001 and 31% in 2015. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Growing emphasis on chronic disease management is not reflected in the percent of primary care visits for chronic illness. This review aimed to identify complications that occur in patients with postoperative hip fracture between 30 days and 60 months after discharge. This review was conducted on articles published from 2005 to 2017 obtained from the EBSCO, PubMed, ProQuest and Google Scholar databases. The literature search followed PRISMA Guidelines. Key search words included the terms hip fracture, complication, postoperative, community, and nursing. Articles were considered eligible if discussed the complications of hip fracture with surgical treatment, occurring post hospital discharge and the patient was in the community. In this review, 23 articles were included that met the inclusion criteria. There were 16 articles that cohort studies, 3 were retrospective studies, 3 were randomized control trials and 1 article was an observational study. The time of observation varied from 30 days to the longest of 5 years. Quality assessment of the levels of evidence used the Oxford CEBM recommendations. The review results found that postoperative hip fracture patients after discharge still experienced various complications after 30 days and up to 1-3 years post-operation. &lt;br&gt;
 In order to enhance cost-effectiveness, shorter hospital stays have been adopted following hip or knee replacement surgery. This study seeks to describe the incidence of morbidity and mortality, five days after patients were taken to surgery with an expected hospital stay of four days. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Utilizing an Institutional Joint Replacement database, a descriptive study was carried out using a retrospective cohort of 1233 procedures in 1100 patients between 2012 and 2016. These were followed up for three months to evaluate morbidity and mortality in the postoperative period. &lt;/p&gt;

 Oswestry disability Index(ODI) is the commonest patient reported outcome for assessment of disability due to low back pain. Its application to non-English speaking Punjabi population is limited as a validated and cross culturally adapted Punjabi version of ODI is not available. The purpose of the study was to analyse the psychometric properties of Punjabi version of Oswestry disability index (ODI-P) in patients with mechanical low back pain. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of Punjabi version of ODI was done according to well recommended guidelines. The prefinal version was tested on a set of 15 patients and suitable modifications were made. The final version was administered to 113 patients with mechanical low back pain of more than two weeks duration. Psychometric properties comprising of internal consistency, test retest reliability, floor and ceiling effect, construct validity and factorial structure of the questionnaire were determined. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;ODI-P showed excellent internal consistency (Chronbach alpha of ODI-P is 0.72), test retest reliability (ICC 0.891) and construct validity (Spearman correlation coefficient with VAS 0.424). Factor analysis proved the questionnaire to be having a 1-factor structure with a total variance of 48.61%. &lt;/p&gt;

 Displaced intraarticular fractures of the calcaneum often require plate fixation. The complex fractures are usually fixed with standard lateral plates and are approached via the extensile lateral approach which is fraught with the risk of wound complications. Oversized calcaneal plates produce tension on the wound closure site and can, thus result in wound healing problems. The current study analyses the morphometry of the lateral surface of the calcaneus for the ideal configuration of the calcaneal plates for Indian patients using a CT based analysis of intact calcanei. &lt;/p&gt;

The cross-section of the lateral third of calcaneum was assessed for the morphometric measurements relevant to the dimensions of the standard plating devices for calcaneum.  Non-union is a significant complication of fracture fixation surgery, and can negatively impact a patient's quality of life. Three kinds of core-shell upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are prepared by the solvothermal method and are mixed with Fe3O4 nanoparticles and different sizes of colloidal spheres. The Janus microbeads are assembled according to the hydrophilic property of the mixture and the hydrophobic property of substrates. The upper parts of the Janus microbeads are photonic crystals assembled with colloidal spheres, and the other parts are Fe3O4. Meanwhile, UCNPs are distributed inside the Janus microbeads. Furthermore, the Janus microbeads are prepared into different lattice patterns using special templates. In the lattice patterns, the structural colors of Janus microbeads can be displayed and disappeared by magnetic field inversion, and under external NIR irradiation, Janus microbeads can generate upconversion fluorescence to achieve multiple color display. The Janus microbeads are also applied to both sides of the bank card, and various reading information methods are designed according to different response modes, which have important applications in pattern display, response materials, and anti-counterfeiting.Following a simple one-pot hydrothermal method, a Co9S8/Bi2S3 composite was successfully synthesized using peanut-like BiVO4 as a precursor. After hydrothermal sulfuration, BiVO4 was transformed into Bi2S3 while maintaining its original peanut-like structure. Meanwhile, Co9S8 nanoparticles were successfully coated onto the peanut-shaped surface of Bi2S3, forming an S-scheme heterojunction by in situ hydrothermal method. For the growth system of Co9S8, the special three-dimensional (3D) structure of Bi2S3 provides a good growth site for zero-dimensional (0D) Co9S8 nanoparticles, avoiding their aggregation and exposing, more reaction area of Co9S8. Moreover, the S-scheme heterojunction retains a more effective redox potential for this system and promotes the recombination of nonessential electron-hole pairs. The 0D/3D spatial structure and the construction of the S-scheme heterojunction provide a more efficient and convenient path for the transfer of photogenic charge, which greatly promotes the effective separation and diversion of the electrons. Besides, the cladding structure of the composite and the S-scheme heterojunction formed between Bi2S3 and Co9S8 complement each other for jointly improving the hydrogen production performance of Co9S8/Bi2S3.Rapid progress has been made for mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN) in recent years; however, efforts to fabricate MSN with adjustable size have been met with limited advancement in drug delivery, especially for the synthesis of MSN with adjustable size in the range of 150-300 nm. Herein we report the construction of a series of MSNs with adjustable specific surface area, size, and pore structure, depending on the different silicon monomers selected. The optimized MSN showed large specific surface area and appropriate size distribution for efficiently anchoring doxorubicin (DOX) through the imine linkage formed. Based on the remarkable features of the unique MSN, a novel MSN-based drug delivery system was prepared through the introduction of polydopamine/manganese oxide (PDA/MnO2) coating, which reduced the premature leakage of drugs in physiological environments, and yet facilitated drug release when destroyed by responding to endogenous glutathione (GSH) at the tumor sites. Notably, the transformation of MnO2 to Mn2+ resulted in the collapse of the PDA/MnO2 coating, which facilitated drug release and therefore indicated the controlled release feature. It was demonstrated that the drug-loaded MSN-based drug delivery system delivered drugs into cancer cells and showed effective inhibition against cancer cell growth.
