How I'd test a face swap app before paying for an export

Every face swap demo you've seen was picked because it looked good. Mine too. So here's how I'd actually test one before paying for anything, written by the guy who makes ClapClip AI (that's me, Chris, so yes, I'm biased).

The most useful thing I can tell you is how to test a face swap tool honestly, mine or anyone else's, before you spend money.

 1. Pick a difficult clip, not a pretty one

Every face swap looks good on a well-lit, front-facing still. Choose a short clip with a head turn, a change in lighting, and a moment where a hand or hair covers part of the face. That's where tools fall apart.

 2. Use one clear source photo

In ClapClip you choose one sharp, front-facing photo of the replacement face (or a built-in template). There's no training step. If the result looks off, try a source photo whose angle and lighting are closer to the scene before blaming the model.

 3. Watch the preview in motion

ClapClip shows a live preview while you edit. Play the hard section, pause where an edge looks wrong, and check the jaw, eyes and mouth. Judging one frame tells you very little.

 4. Remember that the preview is not the export

"Real-time" describes the editing preview. Exporting is a separate render and takes time, depending on your GPU, resolution and clip length. Export a short segment first.

 5. Check the boring details

Where does the file go? In ClapClip the desktop face swap runs locally on Windows 10/11. Your source video isn't uploaded.

Hardware: NVIDIA, AMD and Intel GPUs through DirectML; no CUDA required.

Length and size: the desktop app has no duration or file-size cap. Your GPU, disk space and settings decide how long things take. (The browser tool at faceswap.free is for photos and GIFs; video, long clips and batches are a desktop thing.)

Multiple people: you can choose who gets changed and leave everyone else alone.

Price: the app is free to install, but face swap is a paid feature, one of only two (Enhance is the other). You can preview before you export. I don't quote prices because they can change, so check in the app.

 The part that matters most

Only swap faces you have permission to use, and make it clear when content has been edited. Don't use it to impersonate or deceive anyone.

If you're on Windows and want to try this checklist on ClapClip: clapclip.net. Feedback, especially about where it fails, goes straight to me.

Turning a long podcast into short clips without uploading the video

Cutting a 90-minute podcast into clips by hand takes ages. That's the job the Shorts Generator in ClapClip AI is for. I'm Chris, I build it, and here's what it does and, just as important, what it sends where.

 What it does

Give it a long video: a podcast, interview, stream or webinar. ClapClip transcribes the speech, scores each stretch for hook, flow, value and trend, and returns a ranked shortlist of clip candidates. You preview them and export the ones you want, as 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 clips with burned-in captions. It also suggests captions and hashtags for posting.

 Where the data goes

Transcription and rendering run on your Windows PC, so the video itself isn't uploaded. The clip-selection step sends the transcript text to an AI service. If you're not allowed to share a transcript with a third party, don't run that step on it.

 Scores are guesses

A score says which moments look strongest on paper. It can't promise views. Watch every clip, check that it makes sense out of context, and fix captions before you post.

 Captions

Captions are word-highlighted (karaoke style) with emoji and keyword emphasis, burned into the video so they look the same on TikTok, Shorts and Reels. The text is editable before export.

There's no cap on how long the source video can be. Windows 10/11 only, free to install; some features use in-app purchases, so check in the app. clapclip.net/shorts
