      <title>I Found 2 Real Bugs in Open Source Projects in 30 Minutes — Here's How</title>

  Bug 1: minecraft-web-client (250⭐)
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Issue:&lt;/strong&gt; First-person fire overlay persists after player stops burning.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;How I found it:&lt;/strong&gt; Searched GitHub for &lt;code&gt;label:"💎 Bounty" state:open comments:0&lt;/code&gt; — this specific issue had zero comments and a bounty label.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Root cause:&lt;/strong&gt; In &lt;code&gt;src/entities.ts&lt;/code&gt;, when &lt;code&gt;EntityStatus.BURNED&lt;/code&gt; fires, a 5-second timeout is set. When the server later sends &lt;code&gt;entity_metadata&lt;/code&gt; clearing the fire flag, the timeout is NOT cleared — causing a race condition.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The fix (6 lines):&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br&gt;

  Bug 2: lnp2pBot (283⭐) — Lightning P2P trading bot
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Issue:&lt;/strong&gt; When someone takes a sell order, the bot shows wrong sats amount (excludes fee).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;How I found it:&lt;/strong&gt; Searched &lt;code&gt;label:"help wanted" "sats" state:open&lt;/code&gt; — this issue was tagged &lt;code&gt;priority: high&lt;/code&gt; with 0 comments.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Root cause:&lt;/strong&gt; The i18n template &lt;code&gt;invoice_payment_request&lt;/code&gt; uses &lt;code&gt;${order.amount}&lt;/code&gt; but the actual Lightning invoice is created with &lt;code&gt;Math.floor(order.amount + order.fee)&lt;/code&gt;. User sees "1000 sats" but pays 1006.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The fix:&lt;/strong&gt; Pass &lt;code&gt;totalAmount&lt;/code&gt; to the template:&lt;br&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Clone and grep:&lt;/strong&gt; Find the bug location fast with targeted search&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Read the code path:&lt;/strong&gt; Follow the data flow to find the root cause&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;Post the fix:&lt;/strong&gt; Even without a PR, a detailed comment with a diff shows competence&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;"help wanted" + "high priority"&lt;/strong&gt; = maintainer actively wants help&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;Post the fix even without PR access&lt;/strong&gt; — builds reputation and often leads to being asked to submit&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

  Why Relays Accepted It

&lt;p&gt;Most Nostr relays don't validate signatures on ingestion — they just store events. Clients verify when rendering. So relays happily stored my invalidly-signed events, but every client silently dropped them.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;strong&gt;No access to where money flows.&lt;/strong&gt; Major platforms (GitHub, Twitter, Reddit) block automated signup.&lt;/li&gt;
