Webflow vs Framer: which one we'd actually pick for a client site?

We get this question a lot, usually from designers who just got their first "can you also build it?" request from a client.

Short answer: If it's a marketing site, a launch page or a portfolio, go with Framer. If it's a big CMS, lots of pages, or a client team editing content every week, go with Webflow. Stuck in between? Think about how much content the site will have a year from now.

Here's why.

Framer is fast. Almost annoyingly fast.

If you already design in Figma, Framer won't feel new. Stacks behave like auto-layout, you drag things where you want them, and you can have a live site by the end of the afternoon. For a landing page or a portfolio, we honestly don't think anything beats it right now. Animations are a lot easier to get right too.

The CMS is where it starts to pinch. A simple blog is fine. But once a client asks for filtering, references between collections, or a few hundred items with some logic behind them, you start working around the tool instead of with it.

Webflow makes you think like a developer. That's kind of the point.

The first week in Webflow is rough, no way around it. Classes, combo classes, divs inside divs, staring at a grid that broke for no obvious reason. But that same structure is why it holds up on bigger sites. When a project is content-heavy, like a directory, a resource hub, or a site the client's team updates every week, Webflow is the one we trust to still be in good shape six months later.

The downside is cost. Add localization or bump up your CMS limits and the bill grows faster than most small clients expect. Check that before you send a quote, not after.

So which one?

Quick summary:

Framer

Webflow

Getting a site live

Very fast

Slower, more setup

Animations

Easy, mostly built in

Powerful, more work

CMS with filters and references

Gets limiting

Handles it well

Big content sites

Can struggle

Built for it

Cost as the site grows

Usually lower

Add-ons add up

If you want the actual numbers, we wrote up a full Webflow vs Framer pricing breakdown on CreatorsRes, including renewal costs and the plan limits that don't show up on the pricing page.

Curious what everyone else is using. Has anyone switched from one to the other in the middle of a project? How did that go?
