Biren Technology Gains Momentum in China’s AI Chip Market

U.S. restrictions on AI accelerator exports to China are creating new opportunities for domestic chipmakers, with Biren Technology emerging as one of the notable beneficiaries. The company’s revenue surged nearly 2,000% in the first half of 2026 to $183.9 million, compared with $8.7 million a year earlier.

Biren reported $78.6 million in gross profit and a 42.7% gross margin, although it remains unprofitable due to heavy investment in new accelerators, rack-scale systems, optical connectivity, and its BirenSupA software platform.

Despite the rapid growth, Biren still holds less than 3% of China’s AI accelerator market and faces strong competition from companies such as Huawei, Kunlunxin, and Cambricon
. Manufacturing capacity, software development, and access to advanced chip production will be critical to its future growth.

The broader AI infrastructure market is also moving beyond individual GPUs toward complete ecosystems involving chips, networking, software, and optical interconnects. Biren’s investments in rack-mounted systems and optical technologies reflect this shift.

For Biren, the current market environment provides a significant opportunity created by geopolitical restrictions and reduced access to foreign AI chips. However, its long-term success will depend on whether it can scale production, strengthen its technology and software ecosystem, and convert its exceptional revenue growth into sustainable market share and profitability.
