opencode` is a terminal-based AI coding agent for your own machine. But what if "your machine" is the phone in your pocket?

OpenCode Android is a free, MIT-licensed Android launcher that installs opencode natively inside Termux (no root, no proot), runs its local server, and gives you the chat UI as a native app: guided setup, one-tap start, background update checks and notifications.

 What it does

Guided setup wizard — detects Termux, enables the external-command bridge with a single pasted command, installs the dependencies (glibc runtime included) and configures opencode with
autoupdate=false
so updates stay under your control.

One-tap chat — starts
opencode serve
on
127.0.0.1:4096
and opens opencode's own web UI in a WebView. A health check and a live status dot show whether the server is up.

Background upgrades with real progress — updates run visibly inside Termux while the app reads the progress markers and shows a live progress bar, then restarts the server automatically.

Notifications — a daily check tells you when a new opencode version or a new launcher version is available (one notification per version, deduplicated).

Self-update — the launcher updates itself from its GitHub releases, with an explicit tap.

 Requirements

Android 8.0+ on an arm64 (aarch64) device.

Termux installed from F-Droid or GitHub (the Play Store build is deprecated and will not work).

No root. If your phone offers root to the app, deny it — everything works without it.

 How it works

The app never bundles the agent. It drives Termux through the official
RUN_COMMAND
intent channel (you enable
allow-external-apps=true
once by pasting the one-line command the wizard shows). Installation and upgrades run visibly inside Termux; the launcher only displays progress and talks to the local server the same way your browser would.

 Install

Download the APK from GitHub Releases.

Open the app and follow the wizard (~2 minutes).

Start chatting with your agent.

 Why this exists

Most mobile clients for coding agents are remote controls: they connect to a server running somewhere else. This one is the opposite — everything runs on the phone. It was built with opencode itself (fittingly) and designed so the whole flow works with as few taps as possible.

Source code and issues: https://github.com/Dajeovv/opencode-android (MIT)

Feedback is very welcome.
