So, I built a VS Code extension to stop switching between package registries

Whenever I needed to add a dependency, I’d usually end up opening multiple tabs — npm, PyPI, Maven, crates.io, etc. Then I’d check versions, figure out the right package manager, and finally copy the install command.

I built DepCart to handle this directly inside VS Code.

It lets you:

Search across 10 package registries from one sidebar
Pick the exact package version you want
Get the appropriate install command for your project
Automatically detect tools like npm, pnpm, yarn, pip, uv, cargo, etc.
Run the install command directly from VS Code
Fall back to ecosyste.ms when a registry search doesn't return results
