It Took Me 6 Years to Take the First Step

Hi everyone,

My name is Dayanithi, an enthusiastic engineer who is learning about both life and engineering.

And this is the beginning of my content creation journey.

For the past six years, I had the idea of creating content — whether through writing, videos, or audio.
I used to imagine how it would feel to share my thoughts, experiences, and learnings with others someday.

Sometimes I planned ideas in my head.
Sometimes I even started preparing.

But every single time, hesitation quietly stopped me before I could truly begin.

And today, after all those years, I finally took the first step.

Honestly, one thing I’ve realized is this:

Sometimes, all we need is the courage to take the first step.

Because the truth is, we rarely get the “perfect” time to start anything.

We keep waiting:

for better confidence,
better knowledge,
better communication,
better conditions,
or the feeling of being completely ready.

But many times, that perfect moment never arrives.

And if we spend too much time waiting for ideal conditions, there’s a high chance we end up in a situation where we never even started at all.

I think most of the struggles we face while taking the first step revolve around one simple question:

“What if?”

“What if I fail?”
“What if people judge me?”
“What if I’m not good enough?”
“What if this doesn’t work?”
“What if nobody cares?”

These thoughts quietly hold us back more than we realize.

Interestingly, the human brain naturally prefers comfort over uncertainty.
Even when comfort slowly limits our growth, our mind still chooses to stay there because it feels safe and familiar.

And honestly, I experienced that myself.

A part of me kept believing that I needed to become “better” before starting.
Better at speaking.
Better at writing.
Better at expressing my thoughts.

But over time, I slowly realized something important:

Improvement often comes after starting, not before it.

Nobody begins perfectly.

Every skill we admire in someone today was once a beginner’s struggle.

At the same time, deep inside, most of us still have curiosity.
We still want to explore new things, build something meaningful, express ourselves, and become a better version of who we are.

But every new beginning demands courage.

I once read that fear is not entirely natural — much of it is learned from our environment and experiences.
And maybe that’s why many of our limitations are not actual barriers, but mental boundaries we slowly accepted over time.

So I believe this:

If we truly want to grow, we have to step outside our comfort zones and allow ourselves to try new things — even before we feel fully ready.

This blog is my first step.

Not a perfect step.
Not a confident step.
Just an honest one.

And maybe, whatever you’ve been postponing in your own life…
this is your sign to take your first step too.

Because sometimes, the hardest part of the journey is simply beginning.

— Dayanithi
