I Built a Student Platform Called Univercity as a Student Developer from Congo 🇨🇩

After months of development, I'm excited to share Univercity, a platform designed to help students learn, connect, share resources, discover events, and grow together.

The Problem

As a student, I noticed that we often use multiple disconnected tools:

One platform for learning
Another for networking
Another for discussions
Another for events

There wasn't a single place where students could manage all these aspects of their academic journey.

The Idea

I wanted to create a digital campus where students could:

Access educational resources
Connect with other students
Participate in discussions
Discover events and opportunities
Track their progress and achievements

That's how Univercity was born.

Building the Platform

For this project, I used:

React for the frontend
Firebase for authentication and database management
Cloudinary for image storage and optimization
Vercel for deployment and hosting

These tools allowed me to focus on building features instead of managing infrastructure.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was designing a platform that felt both educational and social.

I also had to think carefully about scalability, user experience, and performance while working with limited resources as a student developer.

What I Learned

Building a real product teaches lessons that tutorials cannot:

User feedback is more important than assumptions.
Shipping is better than waiting for perfection.
Consistency beats motivation.
Community is as important as technology.
What's Next?

My goal is to continue improving Univercity and help more students access learning opportunities and meaningful connections.
