Before Web3(or Web3.0 as fondly called), we had an internet the Web2 which had to do with so much censorship and runs
on centralized server which are owned by big corporations.
With web2, most social media companies can censor any account or tweet or blogpost and just about everything,
like the Nigerian government restricted citizens from Twitter use after the President's post was brought down ,and recently,
Russian's Prsident have also restrictted it's citizen from access sites like Faebook.
. In web2, payment service may decide to not allow payments for certain types of work and also, Servers for gig-economy apps could go down and affect worker income

Web3 is the new version and advanced version of the internet where the user has control and ownership over the data.
Web3 tweets and posts would be not censor-able because control is decentralized
It focuses or shifts it's attention from centralization to decentralization
Big companies(Facebok, twitter, Instagram) or tech giants(google, Microsoft) cannot harvest it
and influence the user and make money out of it, Web3 payment apps require no personal data and can't prevent payments.

According to ConSenSys, "Web3 is an identity layer for the internet. Web3 is a reaction to social networks not keeping our data secure, and selling it for their own profit. Web3 is a way for artists and creators to not only own what they produce on a platform,
but the platform itself. Web3 is a new patron model for the internet".
As a tech enthusiast, I look forward to a trust-less,permission-less and decentralized services.
The web3 era brings in more opportunity for developers to leverage on their talent, learn more and earn more.
Though there are limitations which are being addressed like;
(1) Scalability – transactions are slower on web3 because they're decentralized.
(2) Changes to state, like a payment, need to be processed by a miner and propagated throughout the network.
(3) UX – interacting with web3 applications can require extra steps, software, and education.
(4) Accessibility – the lack of integration in modern web browsers makes web3 less accessible to most users.
(5) Cost – most successful dapps put very small portions of their code on the blockchain as it's expensive.

If you're a newbie and this makes sense to you, there are tons of resources out there to start your journey in the web3 space,
my top three picks are :
