Por qué el 80% de los profes que prueban ChatGPT lo abandonan en 2 semanas

(En una sala de profesores, viernes por tarde. Café, charlas, el olor a tiza... y un silencio incómodo mientras miro la pantalla.)

Buenas tardes. Permítanme ser directo: he estado viendo mucho hype alrededor de ChatGPT. Y, con el tiempo, he notado un patrón preocupante. El 80% de los profesionales que lo prueban, lo abandonan en dos semanas. No es una predicción, es una observación basada en conversaciones y, sinceramente, en la experiencia.

El problema no es ChatGPT en sí. Es la expectativa que se genera y la falta de preparación. La gente se encuentra con un modelo de lenguaje muy bueno, pero que no es un sustituto del pensamiento crítico, ni un asistente mágico.

El primer error: la promesa de la solución mágica. ChatGPT se vende como la herramienta que va a resolver todos tus problemas de productividad. En mi clase de gestión, teníamos que optimizar un proceso de facturación. Algunos alumnos, después de un par de intentos, se rindieron, pensando que ChatGPT iba a generar automáticamente un sistema de facturación perfecto. No lo hizo. Necesitaban entender el flujo de trabajo, identificar cuellos de botella, y diseñar una solución, no simplemente pedirle a la IA que lo hiciera.

Segundo: el "prompt engineering" superficial. La gente le pregunta a ChatGPT cosas vagas como "crea un informe de ventas". El resultado es un informe genérico, poco relevante y, en muchos casos, incorrecto. El prompt engineering no es solo escribir una pregunta. Es entender qué información necesita la IA para darte una respuesta útil. En una clase de marketing digital, le pedimos a un alumno que generara ideas para una campaña en Instagram. Le dimos un prompt muy específico: "Genera 5 ideas para publicaciones en Instagram para una marca de productos veganos dirigidas a millennials, enfocadas en el valor nutricional y el estilo de vida sostenible. Incluye ejemplos de hashtags relevantes." El resultado fue mucho mejor, y más accionable.

Tercero: la falta de control y la dependencia. ChatGPT genera texto. Es un generador de ideas, no un experto. Si usas su salida sin revisarla, sin cuestionarla, sin integrarla en tu propio conocimiento, estás cometiendo un error. En mi clase de derecho, le pedimos a los alumnos que redactaran un borrador de una carta de reclamación. La IA generó un texto, pero era demasiado formal, demasiado técnico, y carecía de la especificidad necesaria para cada caso. Los alumnos tuvieron que editarlo, adaptarlo, y añadir la información relevante para que fuera legalmente válida.

Cuarto: la sobreestimación de la capacidad de "aprender". ChatGPT no aprende de tus interacciones. Es un modelo estático. Si le das la misma pregunta varias veces, obtendrás la misma respuesta. Si le pides que ajuste su salida en función de tus comentarios, no lo hará. Esto genera frustración y la sensación de que la herramienta no es útil. En una clase sobre automatización de procesos, algunos alumnos creían que ChatGPT podía "aprender" a automatizar tareas complejas. No es así. Necesitan entender los conceptos de automatización, diseñar los flujos de trabajo, y utilizar herramientas de automatización reales.

El impacto en la productividad es, en muchos casos, negativo. La gente pierde tiempo buscando la pregunta correcta, revisando la salida, y corrigiendo errores. El tiempo que se dedica a gestionar la IA, supera el tiempo que se ahorra al utilizarla.

¿Qué hacer entonces? No descartemos ChatGPT. Puede ser una herramienta útil para generar ideas, redactar borradores, o investigar temas. Pero úsenlo con conciencia, con crítica, y como una herramienta de apoyo, no como un sustituto del trabajo intelectual.

En mi experiencia, la clave está en entender que la IA es un facilitador, no un reemplazo. Es como un buen asistente: te ayuda a organizar tus ideas, a encontrar información, y a realizar tareas repetitivas. Pero al final, eres tú quien tiene que tomar las decisiones, y quien asume la responsabilidad.
