As a student majoring in Computer Systems, Networking, and Applications (SIJA), one of the biggest challenges I frequently face when completing practical assignments is deploying web applications that are fast, stable, and secure. In a typical deployment process, I have to deal with several different configurations, including server management, DNS settings, SSL/TLS certificates, caching, and network security. Managing these components separately can take a lot of time, especially for students who are still learning about web infrastructure.

Through the DevHandal 2026 Batch 2 program, I had the opportunity to explore Tencent EdgeOne Makers and use it for my web application deployment. My experience with this platform gave me a better understanding of how modern edge computing technology can simplify application deployment while improving performance and security.

My first impression of Tencent EdgeOne Makers was its structured and intuitive interface. The control panel provides access to important features without making the configuration process unnecessarily complicated. For students who are learning about networking and web deployment, this is particularly helpful because we can focus on understanding what each feature does rather than spending too much time trying to navigate a complicated dashboard.

Connecting my web project to EdgeOne Makers was also relatively straightforward. I needed to configure my origin server and adjust the DNS settings for my domain. After the configuration was completed, my website could be accessed through the EdgeOne network. The availability of HTTPS and SSL/TLS configuration also helped me understand how encrypted communication is implemented in a real-world web deployment environment.

One of the most noticeable benefits I experienced was improved website performance. Modern web applications usually contain many static resources, such as CSS files, JavaScript files, images, and other media. Instead of requiring every visitor to retrieve these resources directly from the origin server, an edge network can deliver cached content from locations closer to users.

This concept was particularly interesting when I tested my project with several classmates. When multiple users accessed the website at the same time, using an edge delivery architecture helped reduce the amount of work that needed to be handled directly by the origin server. From a networking perspective, this gave me practical experience with concepts such as content delivery, caching, latency reduction, and distributed infrastructure.

Security was another important aspect of my experience with Tencent EdgeOne Makers. In SIJA, network security is an essential topic, so being able to explore security features in an actual deployment environment was very useful. EdgeOne provides security capabilities such as Web Application Firewall (WAF) protection and DDoS mitigation. These features demonstrate how security mechanisms can be implemented at the edge of a network before potentially harmful requests reach the origin server.

I also explored the concept of Edge Functions. This feature introduced me to the idea that certain lightweight operations do not always need to be executed by the main backend server. For example, edge-based logic can be used for request processing, URL redirection, header manipulation, and other tasks. This helped me understand how serverless and edge computing concepts can be applied to improve the efficiency of web applications.

Another interesting aspect of the DevHandal 2026 Batch 2 program is the opportunity to experiment with artificial intelligence. Access to up to 5 million LLM API tokens provides students with an opportunity to explore AI integration in their projects without having to immediately build their own AI infrastructure. For SIJA students, this can open possibilities for creating smarter web applications, such as AI-powered assistants, automated information systems, or intelligent features integrated into existing projects.

Overall, my experience with Tencent EdgeOne Makers has given me valuable practical knowledge about modern web application deployment. I learned that deploying a website is not only about making the application accessible through the internet, but also about considering performance, security, scalability, and reliability.

For students like me, Tencent EdgeOne Makers is useful because it brings several important deployment and security concepts into one platform. Instead of learning each component completely separately, I can experiment with CDN and edge delivery, DNS, HTTPS, caching, web security, and Edge Functions within the same ecosystem.

This experience has expanded my understanding of how websites and applications are deployed in modern infrastructure. I believe that learning to use technologies such as Tencent EdgeOne Makers can help SIJA students prepare for real-world development and networking challenges while encouraging us to build web projects that are not only functional, but also fast, secure, and reliable.
