The WordPress block editor (AKA Gutenberg) opens up a whole new world for the way we build pages, posts, and websites with WordPress. Genesis Custom Blocks makes it easy to harness this and build custom blocks the way you want them to be built. Whether you want to implement a custom design, deliver unique functionality, or even remove your dependence on other plugins, Genesis Custom Blocks equips you with the tools you need to hit “Publish” sooner.

Take control of design – Implement beautiful, custom designs with fine-tuned front-end templating control.
Build unique functionality – Build blocks that function and behave exactly as you need.

News-update: WordPress 6.5 release delayed 1 week

WordPress 6.5 release delayed 1 week
Based on community feedback on the Unblocking WP6.5 – Font Library and Synced Pattern Overrides and Font Library follow up posts, there has been a change to the WordPress 6.5 release schedule and a final change to the Font Library.
The release of WordPress 6.5 will be delayed one week and is now scheduled for release on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024.

https://make.wordpress.org/core/2024/03/25/wordpress-6-5-release-delayed-1-week/

The delay is to accommodate the following:

The directory for font storage will be changed to wp-content/uploads/fonts.
The Editor team will work on including fixes for a select few high impact bugs that have been identified with the Font Library feature in the upcoming Gutenberg 18.0.0 release. This ensures they will receive some testing before being considered for merge into trunk prior to WordPress 6.5 RC4.
An unplanned WordPress 6.5 RC4 is now scheduled for release on Donnerstag, 28. März 2024 um 17:00 MEZ with the updated font storage location and any other related bugs deemed critical to the release. This will be a normal release candidate, with the announcement being published on the WordPress.org News blog for extra reach.
The 1 week delay allows for ample time for testing, acknowledging that Thursday-Monday is a major holiday for parts of the globe.
Why the change?
This approach ensures that the greatest number of sites possible can benefit from the new Font Library feature without the need to install or configure anything.

While attempting to implement the originally suggested compromise, the sentiment from the trusted contributors involved was that a solution could not be shipped with a level of confidence that meets the standards that core contributors hold themselves to in the remaining time before the originally scheduled release.

After evaluating the potential options and discussing the proposed solution, the most risk averse option was determined to be storing fonts in the wp-content/uploads/fonts directory.

Shipping a feature that requires additional configuration or technical knowledge isn’t in line with the guiding philosophies that have helped the project mature into the successful project that exists today. Part of the original post was a call to return back to those project philosophies, and something this change attempts to adhere to.

The Dry run post will be updated to reflect the schedule for the new release date of 2 April.

https://make.wordpress.org/core/2024/03/25/wordpress-6-5-release-delayed-1-week/

WordPress: Introducing Block Bindings, part 1: connecting custom fields

Introducing Block Bindings, part 1: connecting custom fields:

from time to time we publish some developer-news -

cf. https://developer.wordpress.org/news/2024/02/20/introducing-block-bindings-part-1-connecting-custom-fields/
By Justin Tadlock. February 20, 2024: Introducing Block Bindings, part 1: connecting custom fields: By Justin Tadlock. February 20, 2024

Advanced, Blocks, Plugins, Themes

Looking over the laundry list of developer-specific features coming in WordPress 6.5, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning, shredding the wrapping paper to reveal all the goodies Santa dropped off the night before. But there’s that one special gift. The big one. The one I’ve been wishing and hoping for.

It’s the Block Bindings API.

For extenders, this is the foundation of so many features we’ve all been asking for since the launch of WordPress 5.0 and the Block Editor. This initial iteration provides support for custom fields integration, pattern overrides, and custom bindings.

This post is the start of an in-depth series that covers what block bindings are, why you should use them, and how to use them in your projects. In this first post, you’ll learn how to bind custom fields to block attributes. I encourage you to leave comments on what you’d like to build with the Block Bindings API. What you see in WordPress 6.5 is only the first iteration of a massively powerful feature that will only become better in the versions to come.

today-new WP Tavern Launches Writer Hunger Games

first of all: WPTavern is back -

after some months the site is back again - serving the worldwide WP-Community.

with excellent articles, with a supportiv attitude - and with discourse discourse _ its a a discourse of (WordPress) Univese and a universe of Discorse - both at the same time.

today-new WP Tavern Launches Writer Hunger Games

https://wptavern.com/wptavern-launches-writer-hunger-games
cf: tl;dr Seven folx from the WordPress Community have been selected as finalists for two positions as writers for the Tavern.
May the odds be ever in your favor.
If you’ve been around the Tavern for a while you’re probably aware that it has been without a full-time writer or two since December 2023. Back in November, the Tavern’s last standing writer, Sarah ooding joined her predecessors Jeff Chandler and Justin Tadlock in announcing her departure.
Matt Mullenweg later put the call out for those interested in becoming full-time writers. Hundreds applied and from that list, earlier this February, seven were chosen to participate in a public trial.
Each travelled by train to a meeting where they were introduced to each other and then dropped into the middle of an arena with the only rule being to survive.
It may feel a bit like the Hunger Games have come to WordPress. But, behind the scenes, it’s a ton of enthusiasm and collaboration. After all, it’s for a platform and community we are all passionate about.
Hitting publish is stressful (at least for me), but, we’re excited about this chance. We’re eager to bring our unique views to Tavern readers and the wider WordPress community.
see more https://wptavern.com/wptavern-launches-writer-hunger-games

celbrate with us all the great success of bringing back wptavern.com
