      <title>Stop letting your database dictate your TypeScript domain logic</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;If you want to implement Domain-Driven Design in TypeScript today, the ecosystem usually forces you into one of three frustrating corners:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ol&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Going all-in on Event Sourcing. On one side, you have tools like Emmett.js. They are fantastic if you are building a deeply event-driven system. But pragmatically, Event Sourcing is the right architectural choice for maybe 5% of projects. For the other 95%, forcing your team to maintain an Event Store just to get clean domain boundaries is massive operational overkill.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Drowning in OOP boilerplate. On the other side, you have framework modules like NestJS CQRS. These force you into a heavy OOP paradigm: endless decorators, classes with mutable state, and leaky dependency injection, often without enforcing a strict, proper DDD structure out of the box.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Rolling your own in-house framework. Because the first two options are so polarizing, many teams just give up and build it themselves. You end up spending weeks hand-wiring aggregates, writing custom event buses, and maintaining brittle infrastructure code instead of shipping actual business features.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;

&lt;p&gt;When I built noDDDe - a Domain-Driven Design framework for TypeScript - I wanted to solve this specific problem. By using pure functions (the Decider pattern) instead of heavy OOP classes, we can decouple our logic so completely that persistence becomes a configuration choice, not an architecture decision.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Today, I'm going to show you exactly how this works in practice. We are going to build a simple Auction domain, test it without a single mock, and then wire it up to both a standard SQL database and an Event Store-without changing a single line of business logic.&lt;/p&gt;

  Step 1: Defining the Pure Domain
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In traditional OOP, an Aggregate is a class that mutates its own state. In the functional Decider pattern used by noDDDe, an Aggregate is just a collection of pure functions. It has zero knowledge of where its data comes from.&lt;br&gt;
First, we define our contract as TypeScript types. This single type bundle will infer everything else in our application:&lt;br&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Six months pass. The finance team comes to you. "We need a complete audit trail of every action ever made. We can't just store the final bid anymore."&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In a traditional architecture, this is a nightmare. You have to rewrite your services, change your database schema, and fundamentally alter how you handle state.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;With noDDDe, your business logic is already returning events. To switch to Event Sourcing, you touch exactly one file: the domain wiring.&lt;br&gt;

  Stop Fighting Your Architecture

&lt;p&gt;DDD shouldn't be a painful exercise in boilerplate, and it shouldn't force you into an all-or-nothing commitment to Event Sourcing on day one. By adopting the Decider pattern, you can build software that easily adapts to the scale of your business.&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>TypeScript deserved a real DDD framework - so I built one</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;When I moved from Java to TypeScript a few years ago, most things got easier. The tooling was lighter, the iteration speed was faster, and the type system - while different - was surprisingly expressive once you learned to lean into it.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;But when I needed Domain-Driven Design, I hit a wall.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In Java, DDD frameworks are mature and plentiful. &lt;a href="https://www.axoniq.io/framework" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Axon Framework&lt;/a&gt; gives you aggregates, event sourcing, and sagas out of the box. The patterns are well-established, the tooling is battle-tested, and the ecosystem assumes you'll want to model your domain properly.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In TypeScript? The options were thin.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;NestJS has a &lt;a href="https://docs.nestjs.com/recipes/cqrs" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;CQRS module&lt;/a&gt;, but it requires buying into the entire NestJS ecosystem. Its DI container, its decorators, its module system. If you're already on NestJS, that's fine. But if you're working in an existing codebase, or you just want DDD primitives without adopting an opinionated application framework, it's a non-starter.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I looked at &lt;a href="https://www.npmjs.com/package/wolkenkit" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;wolkenkit&lt;/a&gt;, which was genuinely promising; a CQRS and event sourcing framework built for Node.js. But the project stalled. I even reached out to one of the main contributors. It wasn't an option for production use.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Beyond those, the landscape was scattered: thin libraries that gave you an event store client but no aggregate abstraction, hand-rolled patterns copied between projects, or blog posts explaining the theory without shipping usable code.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Coming from the Java world, where I could model aggregates, wire up event sourcing, define projections, and coordinate sagas with well-supported tooling, the gap in TypeScript felt unnecessary. The language had everything it needed: discriminated unions, mapped types, type inference, literal types. The foundations were there. Nobody had built the framework.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;So I built one. I called it &lt;strong&gt;noDDDe&lt;/strong&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

  The Decider pattern over OOP aggregates
&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The first decision was the most important: no classes.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Most DDD frameworks model aggregates as classes that extend a base &lt;code&gt;AggregateRoot&lt;/code&gt;. You decorate methods with &lt;code&gt;@CommandHandler&lt;/code&gt;, mutate state through &lt;code&gt;this.apply()&lt;/code&gt;, and wire everything together with a DI container. This works, but it fights TypeScript's strengths rather than leveraging them.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;noDDDe uses the &lt;a href="https://thinkbeforecoding.com/post/2021/12/17/functional-event-sourcing-decider" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;Decider pattern&lt;/a&gt; instead. An aggregate is defined by three things:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;No base class. No decorators. No &lt;code&gt;this&lt;/code&gt;. The &lt;code&gt;defineAggregate&lt;/code&gt; function is actually an identity function, it exists only so TypeScript can infer the types. Zero runtime overhead.&lt;/p&gt;

  Type safety that actually helps

&lt;p&gt;The thing I missed most from Java wasn't the frameworks themselves, it was the confidence that the wiring was correct. TypeScript can give you that confidence, but only if the framework is designed for it.&lt;/p&gt;

The packages are published on npm (&lt;code&gt;@noddde/core&lt;/code&gt;, &lt;code&gt;@noddde/engine&lt;/code&gt;, &lt;code&gt;@noddde/testing&lt;/code&gt;, plus ORM adapters), &lt;a href="https://cloud.umami.is/q/TRBqSlPjm" rel="noopener noreferrer"&gt;the documentation&lt;/a&gt; is comprehensive, and there are several sample projects covering different ORMs and domain patterns.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The API is stabilizing, but pre-1.0. I'm looking for feedback from TypeScript developers who've built (or tried to build) event-sourced or DDD-based systems. What's missing? What's awkward? What would make this useful for your next project?&lt;/p&gt;
