38% of Startup 2/10

In Febuary I decided that I would make 10 startups in 10 months. So far, we are in the second month. I am about 38 percent through this month but I have made signifacant progress, the goal was to create a study platform for people to share their school related questions and make posts about studying tips. Although it has been going great I have reached a problem, I already finished the project. You see, I grinded that project out believing that I would not have any chance of completing it on time but the reverse happened. Now I am drawing a blank on ideas. Tomorrow I'm gonna ask ChatGPT for study app ideas and then figure out how to impliment them into the app.

I have decided to add a new rule to this project. For each startup that I make, I must use a new libary with it. I decided to do this so that I can learn to adapt to differnet libaries and learn how to read documentation. I get easily overwhelmed when reading documentation, so to overcome I implemented this rule. I know that this will benefit me in the long run an will be a great skill to have in the job force. For this project, I used react-bootstrap. I never heard of react-bootstrap until i ran into an article in dev.to. In this article, they talked about different libaries where I ran into react-bootstrap. So far, it is very easy to use and the documentation is really helpful. I have enjoyed using it and I might use it again in different projects.

Startup 1/10

Hello, I am participating in a challenge to create a startup every month. This month I decide that I would make a college/program tracker.

 What is this website?

A university tracker based on majors and minors

A way to organize the universities that offer the programs that you like

This can also be used towards boarding schools, camps, and more

 What was the inspiration?

My cousin is going away to college, and I remember how hard it was for her to manage the colleges

She tried to use excel but it wasn't easy to use, so I made this website

At the moment, you can only put the school's name and select majors and minors that it provides

What will I be doing to it in the future?

You will be able to put what type of school it is (Liberal Arts, HBCU, etc.)

You will be able to select if they offered a scholarship

You will be able to choose whether it is a safety, target, or reach

Link to Website

Hello, I am back. I know that it has been a while since I have posted/blogged but trust me I have continued to code. School was starting to get really heavy, so I did not post as much. But overall, I feel as if the 100 days of code was successful. In that 100 days I have masted NextJS and I am confident in my abilities to use both sources. I will be starting another 100 days of code trying to learn NodeJS, but it will begin in the summer. I will be dedicating the rest of my time on working on small projects and continuously working.

To help with a smaller project that I am working on. What sources do you think that students of all grades need and why? Thank you, guys!

In my last post, I mentioned that I created a blog and how I was working on an idea sharer. I am still working on idea sharer, but I also decided to join two high school hackathons. I decided to do so because I want to build my resume and apply my knowledge. For this project, I plan to use a language I haven't used before, React Native. I love how React Native is cross-platform and the hackathon is an opportunity to learn about web development.

I started today by setting up my laptop for React Native and reading documentation.

Yesterday, I worked on trying to fix the errors presented previously. Although I almost gave up, I remembered how I felt when I couldn't study for my classes for school because it required payment to do Quizlet learn. I used my motivation to fix the errors and uploaded my Quiz App. I added some basic styling but nothing special.

Click Me to Visit Website!

Along with deploying my Quiz App, I created a private, online Markdown Editor, I am the only one who knows the URL. I made this website so I could be distraction-free; whenever I use a markdown editor like Obsidian I get carried away with the features. Because there are little to no features on this website, I won't get carried away.

I can't seem to deploy the project so I am going to redo everything tomorrow. Half way mark is sad and frustrating. It works in the localhost but when I try to deploy it, it doesn't work.

Day 49 / 100daysofcode

I didn't like how limited the customization options were. When I was using dev.to, I liked markdown because of how easy it was to use. So, I want to add it to the website to that there could be better descriptions of the ideas.

I spent today making a note app to see how Markdown would work with Firebase database. The experiment was successful because I was able to add it to the website and it was formatted correctly, from spacing to the content.

Along with making a Markdown notetaking app, I realized that problem that kids my grade and myself had was Quizlet writing mode. In french class, I remembered when I used to use Quizlet to practice writing french words but after they started charging for it. I decided that I would make it myself. This will help me a lot for my classes that require memorizing terms.

I plan to add this to the website later. The goal is for the website to be completely finished from the backend to the front end by Summer 2023.

Day 48 / 100daysofCode

I spent my time doing research for the layout and functionality of the web app.

 Languages

I want to use NextJS as my front end since I am comfortable with it. For the backend, I am very unclear about what I want to use, but I think I will start the basic version with Firebase, but after I finish the first draft or version 1.0, I plan to use NodeJS and MongoDB. I plan to use Tailwind CSS for styling.

 Styling

I want a color scheme that includes my school colors and inspires productivity. After some research, I want to use red since it is known for productivity. I am using gold and black for my school colors. Lastly, I decided to use an off-white for the light mode version because it compliments the red. As a font, I am using Roboto because of its simplicity. I am currently brainstorming the name for the website. It's called Study Helper, but the name is not final.

 User Authentication

I plan to create this website to be available to my school first. If students find this website helpful, I will make it available to all schools. To prevent random people from logging into the wrong schools, I will use google authentication. Lastly, there will be roles for each user. The roles will be:

Principal

Teacher

Tutor
Student

 Potential Features for this Website

Finding a tutor: Our school provides tutors for the kids, some of them are students and others are adults. Students can view the tutor list and reach out to them.

Student Resources: Teachers can share resources that the students can use for additional help or for studying.

Day 45 / 100daysofcode

I have been grounded for the last 11 days because my room was messy. Although I am still grounded, I found a way to use my computer to code. I am limited to only using HTML and CSS, so I have been creating front-end templates.

I would consider this day a milestone because I am comfortable with NextJS. I plan to use NextJS to help me learn NodeJS. NodeJS is a back-end server-side language. The internet says that NodeJS is best for real-time application websites, which will help me with my current project.

There are two projects that I am developing. The first project is an idea-sharing website for those who face creative blocks. I am a victim of creative block and often find myself unmotivated to code because of them. This website will help people who have the same problem as me, the website solves the issue of people waiting weeks before working on a project. The second project I am working on will be an office hour booking website. There are lots of students who need to seek extra help from teachers but often miss office hours because they don't know the time. This website will allow teachers to post when they have office hours, the students will upvote if they want to go. That will help teachers save time since they won't have to stay longer if no students arrive. Depending on your school, there might be a tutor option where students can book tutors for certain projects.
