Finding free 3d assets as an indie quite frankly, sucks ass. So I thought I'd put together this list to help out my fellow broke devs. Hope this helps!

 1. Quaternius

Quaternius doesn't come up a lot in these kinds of lists and honestly I think that's criminal. He's created a huge library of great low poly 3d assets all licenced under CC0, meaning there's no copyright or strings attached - you can use these models however you want! You can also download the whole collection for $1 on his patreon.

 2. Devils Workshop

Devils Workshop Plenty of great free asset bundles, and very reasonably priced paid packs. There's some excellent resources for RPGs, food, cars and cities. All licenced under CC0!

 3. Kenney

A list like this wouldn't be complete without an obligatory link to Kenney. Kenney's been the king of free assets for years with plenty of free 3D and 2D assets available to download. Great for game jams but if you're looking for something specific it can be a challenge with the site lacking a search bar and having really small previews.

 4. The Everything Library

David O'Reilly of Everything (the game) fame has generously uploaded the majority of his work into bundles up on itch.io. These packs don't quite have everything as the name would have you believe but the animal and buildings packs are definitely worth checking out.

However depending on your workflow these can be a bit of a pain to use - all models in the bundle are chucked into a single blender file and use vertex colours instead of materials, so you'll need to use a shader that supports them.

 <del>5. Google Poly</del> Poly Pizza

Google poly used to be a great place to download great low poly models because of its easy to use VR modelling app Blocks. However in classic google fashion they've decided to kill off another great service. RIP ⚰️

That's why I spent 5 months building a better way for game devs to find free models.

As a solo developer with questionable art skills, I was tired of having to search through all these different sites. I would download these huge assets packs only to find the model I was looking for wasn't even there. Because of this I made high quality search and previews a top priority for the site.

I found a lot of other sites had lots of low quality uploads getting in the way of what I was looking for, so all uploads are hand curated by me. This makes sure they're all game ready and properly tagged for search, making for a much better experience.

I also hand sorted all 50,000 or so models from Poly to find the best ones for game development, making Poly Pizza a really great Google Poly alternative.

And if the site doesn't have the model you're looking for, you'll get results for high quality picks from the Unity Asset Store and around the web.

If you'd rather spend time actually making your game instead of hunting for models, Poly Pizza is worth a visit

I hope this list has been helpful! Best of luck on your game dev adventures! ✌

Bonus: More free resource lists!
