Day 1405 : Evolution

liner notes:

Saturday : Had a normal Saturday. Went to the station to do the radio show. Had a good time as usual. The recording of this week's show is at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com

Sunday : Pretty productive day during the study sessions at https://untilit.works . I was able to modify a couple of models for this project I'm working on.

Professional : Pretty good day to start the week. Had a chat with some folks about how we take submissions to our code repository. Looked over some code. Had a meeting with my manager to discuss some projects. Continued looking into some code and working on putting together a workshop.

Personal : My focus this week is to get to a good point with these items that I can start on the mass production and get websites ready to sell the products.

Turns out that a model I made changes would make it too big to fit into the box all the items will come in. I'm going to look into seeing if I can make the hole deeper in the box because I cannot make it taller. Going to look into that. I may have come up with an alternative on how I'm adding a battery to another part that may fix some issues I've been running into and hopefully make things easier and more consistent to make. We'll see. It's interesting to see the evolution of the items over time from a sketch to multiple iterations depending on a bunch of factors as I work on getting everything to fit together. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Have a great night!

Day 1404 : Before

liner notes:

Professional : Since my WiFi is setup in the shed, I worked from here. It's been a minute. Had my normal meetings for a Thursday. I even got to demo one of the applications I made for a workshop to the group. Folks seemed to like it. I worked on getting it ready to be put into the workshop format. I sent the follow up email to try and get some hardware for another set of workshops that are happening next month. I wrote it and revised it a few times to try and get it as perfect as possible especially since I didn't hear anything back for like a month. I even deployed the application that we will be building in the workshop so they could test it out on their hardware to show that it can work great. Yesterday, I even refactored the application so that it would work even better than what I had since some new changes where added to the framework I used. Looks like all the hard work and preparation paid off because I got an email back a couple of hours after sending it. haha They said everything sounds cool and they are going to try the demo and get back to me. Fingers crossed!

Personal : Last night I got all my bills paid for the month. I also picked up the projects on Bandcamp and got the social media posts together. Also slipped in a Japanese lesson in.

Before I leave the shed for the day, I want to get this shelf put together and get some equipment on it. After that, I'm going to work on the radio show so that I don't have to do that tomorrow. Tomorrow is a holiday since the 4th of July lands on a Saturday so I'm going to focus on finishing up this project I've been working on. Since I'm off Friday, I posted the Bandcamp projects today instead of tomorrow and I saw that the folks that I made some merch for posted it on their social media. Pretty cool. People seemed to really like it. Going to get to working on this shed before it gets too dark and continue on other stuff. No post tomorrow since I'm off work. The radio show happens on Saturday at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com and study session at https://untilit.works on Sunday.

Have a great night and weekend!

Day 1403 : Steps

liner notes:

Professional : Logged into work with some messages waiting on me. Worked my way through them in time for my first meeting. After that, I had another meeting. After that, I worked on writing up a follow up email to a hardware manufacturer that I'm trying to get an item to showcase in my upcoming workshops. I got a pretty good draft done and sent to some folks to review it. I asked an internal AI tool to see what it would write and it was actually pretty aggressive. haha. I tried the WebXR application that I deployed on my Galaxy XR headset. Everything worked great, except the reticle didn't show up so that makes it a little more difficult to see when you can press buttons. Also, the height of the panels were a little higher than it looked in the simulator. Spent the rest of the day figuring out how to modify the sample code to get it how I wanted. The application is a sample application that I then added my company's product on top. Also got to see the flyer / image for my upcoming workshop.

Personal : I officially cancelled the Kickstarter pledge I made. Did some other financial stuff. Went through projects on Bandcamp. Did my Japanese lesson. I think that was it.

During my lunch break, I went to set up the WiFi router that came in yesterday. Of course it took longer than I expected. I do not remember the last time taking so many steps. At least I got it working in the end and changed the SSID and password to the old one so I wouldn't have to reset all my devices. Tomorrow, I'll be able to work in the shed and while I'm there, I'll put together the shelves that I got in. It's the first of the month so I'm going to get my bills paid. After that, I want to get some work done on the new version of the website. I just realized that it's Wednesday so I need to pick the Bandcamp projects for this week.

Day 1402 : The Best

liner notes:

Professional : Pretty productive day! I downloaded the completed application I made from the workshop I created that integrates a new feature of the library I'm using. I then deployed the application so that it's available on the web and not just in GitHub Codespaces. The application is pretty basic so there's no build step or anything extra. The point is just to focus on the features we care about without all the fluff. I tested the application a few times. I sent it to my manager to try out. My plan is to use the deployed app in a follow up email I sent to a person at a company that I'm trying to get some hardware to be able to showcase at my upcoming workshops. I think by following up with an application that they can try out on their hardware, they will be more likely to respond and want to collaborate when they can experience it for themselves. We had an all employee meeting. Cool to see what other parts of the company are working on. Spent the rest of the day working on the application and creating the follow up email. I also got some news about an upcoming workshop.

Personal : Last night, I spent a bunch of time trying to revive my WiFi router. I looked for another plug to test if the old plug got fried and the router was still good. Found one and when I plugged it in, the green light on the router came on, but I didn't see the SSID for the router. I then put it into Recovery mode and tried to install the firmware. I couldn't connect so AI told me that the board must be fried and I'll need to purchase another router. At least I gave it the best shot I could and exhausted all the options. I then did more research into a new router and purchased one. I also did some consultation with AI regarding my business and the equipment I'm looking to add to the shed. The result from all the research led me to the decision that I'll cancel my pledge. AI gave me a lot of good reasons and another perspective that I didn't see because I'm so deep into it that I didn't see all the overlap and issues that could come with the particular equipment. It's a good thing because the deadline is almost here. I didn't even realize that the equipment was scheduled to ship in 2027. I could use that money for equipment that I can get this year and use in my business to try and generate some profit.

I didn't get to set up the new router because it's been rainy all day. Going to try for tomorrow. My plan is to cancel my pledge before the deadline and I get charged for the equipment. Tomorrow is the 1st so I need to get my monthly bills paid. I just came across this pretty cool Web application that can create lenticular images. I bookmarked it to check it out later at some point. I really need to put in some work into this project that should have been released a while ago. Random obstacles aren't going to stop popping up so I just need to get it done. Going to work on all the digital stuff that I can get done outside of the workshop until I can get the WiFi back up and running so I can connect to my machines. I'll probably get some work done on the website update. I need to figure out how I want to structure the data so that the pages can load it. Going to eat dinner and get started.

Have a great night!

liner notes:

Saturday : Pretty good day. One of the hosts sent me a care package. That was nice of them. Had a great time doing the show as usual. The recording of this week's show is at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com

Sunday : The day definitely did not go the way I expected. I knew that the internet to my shed was down because the WiFi router in the house turned out to be broken alongside the modem. Got a new router on Saturday so I thought I would just need to hook up my WiFi extender to the new WiFi and I should be good to go for the shed. Nope. Turns out the storm also fried my extender awesome. I tried to do the study sessions over at https://untilit.works, but after one session of using my phone as a hotspot failed spectacularly! haha. Spent the day doing my normal chores, researching new WiFi extenders (got a really good one on sale), cleaning up and clearing space and unpacking the new shelf I bought for the shed. It got dark in the shed (the lights are hooked up through my WiFi) so I just put everything out of the box and into piles so that it would be easier to assemble.

Professional : Today was a pretty productive day! Had a team meeting and set my tasks for the month of July. Had another meeting about a workshop that I'll be holding at the end of July with the organizers. I got them to test out the application that will be building in the workshop. They said they really liked it and had some follow up questions. Then I had a meeting with my manager. I had them do the same demo and looked like they had fun with it. We did some other applications that a framework I've been using has updated their site with. There are some new features that I want to add to a project and wanted to run it by them before I do it. They approved so I worked on adding one feature to a project I've been working on. By the end of the day, I was able to add it and test it out a little. I'm not too familiar with Three.js so AI helped me with some of the integration regarding that part of the code.

Personal : My goals this week are to get the shelves assembled, hook up the equipment and get some custom slipmat samples made. I want to also get the digital files ready to be printed and work on the website.

During lunch, I went to set up the new WiFi extender that got delivered today. Got it all hooked up and went to my shed to test out the new WiFi. Nope, again! Looks like the same power surge that broke the WiFi extender traveled through the Ethernet cable and messed up my shed's WiFi router. So, I'm still here without internet. Going to see if I have a similar plug and try to replace it and see if the router turns on, otherwise, I'll have to do more research on a new router. After that, I want to work on some of the models and digital files for this project that is way overdue. I also want to get the new version of the site up and running. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Have a great night!

Day 1400 : Much More

liner notes:

Professional : Not a bad day to start the week. Had more meetings than normal, at least in one the other people outside the company didn't show up so I was able to catch up with a co-worker about another upcoming project. I did stay up late to get the demo I wanted to show in the meeting with the other folks, but at least I got it working. Spent the rest of the day refactoring the demo and looking for some ways to maybe add some more features.

Personal : Like I mentioned, I stayed up late to finish up the demo so I could show it in the meeting that didn't happen. Before that though, I bought the Bandcamp projects for the week and went through a bunch of tracks for the radio show.

I was so tired from staying up that I took a nap right after work. haha I'm up and going to eat dinner and put together the playlist for the radio show. Since I did a bunch of work before, I only need to do the starter set of tracks. Which is probably good, because I'm tired. Other than do a Japanese lesson, not sure if I have it in me to do much more. If anything, I may just get some files and models ready to print this weekend. I'll be heading back into the shed on Saturday to set up the new shelves and move some equipment on it so I can finally get this project going snake be damned! haha That last couple of times that I quickly went in an out the shed, I didn't see it. I think with the new shelves, I'll be able to get a lot of stuff up off the floor. The sublimation ink I order is supposed to come Sunday so I'm looking forward to setting up the printer and filling it so I can try and press some custom slipmats. So yeah, Saturday is the radio show at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com and Sunday is the study session at https://untilit.works

Have a great night and weekend!

Day 1399 : The One

liner notes:

Professional : Normal meeting filled Thursday. I finished up my review of an OpenAPI spec for a new product. Worked a little on my blog post, but hit a writer's block and decided to continue a project that I started this week for a possible workshop I have coming up next month. It's using a new AI Agent framework and the getting started instructions said to copy this prompt into your AI coding agent to get started. That's when I knew things could go wrong. haha. I ran it earlier this week as a test run and the code is different from the project that I created today using the same exact prompt. The funniest thing is that neither of the projects had the same code that is in the documentation. Instead of going through all the prompts that the AI kept popping up because it kept running into issues and needed my permission to try and fix it, an npm install script and coping and pasting some sample code, I could have been finished a lot sooner. Going through the docs, I wanted to see if I could use the company's AI agent to scaffold out the demo I was thinking about putting together since it has access to all our documentation. After a little while, it popped out something that looks pretty good. I'm going to see if I can integrate it into a previous project that I have running.

Personal : Last night, I started putting together the social media posts for the Bandcamp projects I'm picking up this week. I also did a bunch of research on sublimation printing and it turns out that the one printer I bought last year and didn't even open can be converted. I don't remember if I bought it because of that, but it can save me a bunch of money. From the videos I watched, I just need to put in the sublimation ink and print on sublimation paper with a specific color profile. Fingers crossed that it's really that straight forward. I'll still use the DTF printer for non-polyester and dark fabric.

Speaking of the DTF printer, apparently you have to print with it everyday and since the snake encounter, I have not really been in the shed that long all week. Since the shelves I ordered came into today, during lunch I moved the box to the shed and since I was there, I printed the designs I made on the DTF printer and also run a test print on the UV printer since I haven't done that in a while. The DTF prints came out pretty good. The UV printer was not printing the colors correctly, but after a few nozzle cleanings, it started to print properly thankfully. While all that was happening, I finished the social media posts for the Bandcamp projects. Good news is that I didn't see the snake (I wasn't looking for it, haha) but I did hear some stuff, but that could be my imagination. haha. My plan is to buy the Bandcamp projects and start to put together the playlist for the radio show this week. Before going to bed, I think I'm going to see if I can get this demo for work running. I have a meeting tomorrow that could be cool to show.

Have a great night!

Day 1398 : Power

liner notes:

Professional : Pretty straight forward day. Had a couple of meetings. Spent the rest of the day implementing some features into the workflow I made to create some projects. I actually had to add an additional feature as I was working on it. By the end of the day, I tested everything out and it seems to work and sent a message to the person that needs the new feature to test it out. We'll see tomorrow.

Personal : I picked the projects I want to pick up on Bandcamp this week. Also started to put together tracks for this weeks radio show. Even thought about the website I want to make for the project and did my Japanese lesson.

There was a huge storm that passed through just as my work day was wrapping up. It looks like it knocked out the power or had a surge or something, because my van's portable battery was acting weird and I couldn't turn on any ports specifically the one I use of my chest fridge. I had to do a bunch of research and ask AI for different solutions. Pressing different buttons didn't do anything. At the end, I had to unscrew the top and unplug a battery button and that seemed to fix everything. And then me like an overachiever decided that I would update the firmware since I never did that and one of the solutions was to download the app and connect to it. Never should have done that because the update failed and made the screen go blank and I had to press some buttons to bet it back, but it looks like the input for some solar panels and wall outlet isn't working now. I'll have to try to take off the top and unplug the connectors again to see if I can get it working again. It's always something. Going to eat dinner, do some more research on dye sublimation for my projects and maybe pick up yet another printer especially for this current project because I think I can get better quality for an item than I could with the DTF printer I bought. I also want to work on the social media posts for the Bandcamp projects I'm picking up as well as do my Japanese lesson.

Have a great night!

Day 1397 : Melting Clocks

liner notes:

Professional : Pretty good day today. Did some research to respond to some community questions. Worked on my blog post. Somebody needed some modifications to an application I made so that their use case could work better. I spoke with my manager to make sure I could make some time to work on it and they said yeah. I created a ticket and started figuring out my game plan. I updated some UI and sent it to my manager to check out right before calling it a day.

Personal : I went through some projects on Bandcamp last night and worked on the new site. I realized that the way I was loading the items, there could be scenario where some items wouldn't be shown. I had a think about it and I may have come up with a solution. I also tried to get some demo applications up and running with some new technologies, but I was unsuccessful. I think it could be due to the environment I tried to run the demos in.

I created a branch for the new version of the site last night, so I'm going to update to the latest version of the framework and do a test deployment to make sure everything is still good before I make the changes I have in mind. I may make some modifications to a 3D model. It's almost the middle of the week so I should start picking projects on Bandcamp and put together the radio show so I can stay ahead. Time is flying by! I think it's because the heat is melting clocks. haha

liner notes:

Saturday : Pretty standard day. Did the radio show and had a great time as usual. The recording of this week's show is at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com

Sunday : This day WAS becoming a standard day. I was doing my study sessions at https://untilit.works and getting tasks done. That was until I saw a snake slither by me in the shed. That's all I need to call it for the day! haha I didn't get any of the stuff I planned for this project done in the workshop. I did my other tasks and started working on the coding parts of the project. I ordered some shelves that will be delivered later this week and that will probably step foot back into the shed! haha I have a bunch of boxes and bags on the floor that I need to put on the shelves to clear some room. Till then, I put down some glue traps so hopefully those and/or the heat will do their job. haha.

Professional : Today I had a meeting with my manager and we decided to throw in the towel on trying to get something working the way it was before GitHub made some changes. Technically everything still works as before, there's just an extra screen now that the user will have to click "continue". Took part in a presentation for the project I was working on a team a few weeks ago. I was helping someone troubleshoot so issues they were running into. Went back to working on this blog post that is taking me way too long to write. haha.

Personal : That snake threw me off mentally. I knew at some point it would happen, but why did it have to be Sunday. haha. Debating on whether or not to just burn down the whole shed and start over! haha Totally kidding! I took some time to get the new version of my website that will be selling the project. Since we have multiple projects that we have done, I need to switch up the front page to reflect that. I had this idea in my mind and I used Bolt.new to help me get a POC working using the Web APIs that I have been researching. I got something together pretty quickly.

Going to eat dinner. Then I'm going to work on the website for the project. Going to see how much I can get done before the shelves come in. Also, going to get in some Japanese learning.

liner notes:

Professional : Pretty quiet day. Responded to a community question, reviewed some documents and tried to get this workaround going.

Personal : Last night, I went through and bought the projects on Bandcamp and got the social media posts together. I started to go through tracks for the radio show. I also thought about how I could improve the design of a model I've been working on.

Going to put together the playlist for the radio show and work on the social media posts. So, after watching a bunch of review videos, I bought a new camera. To be fair, it's been a couple of years since I bought one and still use the ones I have now. I'm supposed to be taking some work trips and I this camera has some features that will really help get some footage easier that I really wish I had previously. Especially since I basically do these tasks by myself. With this camera, I should be solid gold to get that footage. Going to eat dinner and get to work on the radio show and maybe this model. Radio show on Saturdays at https://kNOwBETTERHIPHOP.com and study session on Sunday at https://untilit.works

Have a great night!

peace piece
Day 1394 : Dark Magic

liner notes:

Professional : Even more meetings today than normally. Between them, I responded to a community question and other posts and I cannon balled myself into this refactoring project to try and fix what an update changed. I tried so many different iterations. The thing is that it's not really coding related, it's more like trying to find the right combination of settings to try and get this thing working like before the update. It still works, but there's like an extra annoying confirmation that the user needs to accept. I'm trying to make the annoying confirmation go away. Got really close, but it looks like the update may have thought of everything. haha. There's like a million different settings to this application that I'm learning with AI. Feels like dark magic trying to find the right combination of spells to make this thing work like it did. haha.

Personal : I picked the Bandcamp projects I'll be picking up this week and started the social media posts. I also modified one of the models so that it can fit better. Also did a Japanese lesson.

I'm so tired! It's been so hot today. I didn't even go into the workshop because it would have been even hotter. Going to purchase the projects on Bandcamp and finish putting together the social media posts. Going to also start putting together the playlist for the radio show and maybe the social media post for those tracks. I'm also going to let some ideas marinate in my mind about some modifications I can make to make things fit a little better. Oh yeah, I need to respond to some emails. Going to eat dinner and get to work.

Have a great night!
