      <title>A case where data abundance means little for actual results</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Much discourse lately (summer wildfires had a lot to do) about water supplies and datacenters. In order to design and program any long-term reliable infrastructure, relevant data are needed. &lt;br&gt;
Europe does not primarily have a water-data shortage. A huge amount of water-related data is already available through data.europa.eu. The challenge is that much of it isn't structured, discoverable, interoperable, consistently described, or machine-readable enough for modern automated systems and AI to use effectively.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The next stage of digital water governance should therefore focus less on collecting more data and more on making existing data:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;-structured&lt;br&gt;
-discoverable&lt;br&gt;
-interoperable&lt;br&gt;
-legally clear&lt;br&gt;
-machine-readable&lt;br&gt;
-persistent and maintainable&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This is particularly important as we start using AI and automated systems to support decisions around water resources, infrastructure, environmental risks, and datacenter planning.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The broader lesson extends well beyond water: metadata is becoming critical infrastructure for AI-enabled governance.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This article provides an interesting analysis of where Europe's water data currently falls short and what could be done about it:&lt;/p&gt;
