Building Sainteur: a free markets news site with the sources under every story

I'm building Sainteur, a free markets news site. It's a work in progress, and I wanted to share what I'm aiming for and what I've learned so far.

 The idea

Most markets news I read is either paywalled, buried under sign-up prompts, or full of hype. Sainteur covers equities, crypto, startups, macro and politics in one place, with a few rules:

Sources linked under every story, so you can check the claim yourself.

Prices are time-stamped, because a number without a time is meaningless in markets.

Open corrections when something is wrong.

No paywall, no sign-up, no "buy now" calls.

There's also an RSS feed at sainteur.com/rss.xml if you'd rather read it in a feed reader.

 What's next

The plan is for each story to be readable, listenable and watchable, so you can switch formats depending on whether you're at a desk or commuting.

 Feedback welcome

If you read markets news, I'd love to hear what makes a news site worth coming back to for you, and what makes you close the tab. Comments are open.

I'm Emiliano, on X as @emilianooo.

Why I built a project page instead of another link-in-bio

Link-in-bio tools are built around links. But when someone clicks a founder's bio, they're usually asking a different question: what is this person working on, and what's actually live?

So I built What I Am Building (my project). It's free, and you claim
whatiambuilding.com/yourname
.

The data model is the product

A link is just a title and a URL. A project needs more:

Field

Why it matters

Status (launched / building / paused / stealth)

Visitors know what they can use today

Progress %

Scannable at a glance

Platform (web, mobile...) and category

Context without a paragraph

Started / launched / expected dates

Shows momentum

Direct link

Taps go straight to the product

Stealth mode was the hard part

Founders want to show they're building something without leaking it. A stealth project stays on your page with its link hidden and whichever details you choose (name, description, icon, dates) masked, e.g.
P*****r
, and it's excluded from the public directory entirely.

 Distribution is built in

Every page links into a public directory of founders and projects, so a page is also a small discovery surface for everyone else listed.

My page, as an example: whatiambuilding.com/emiliano. If you're a dev with a graveyard of side projects, I'd love to see yours on there.

My developer desk setup, rated 1 to 3 like gear in an RPG

In games, "best in slot" is the item nothing beats for a given slot. I started applying that to my real desk and ended up building a whole site around it: The Best in Slot. (It's mine, full disclosure.)

The rules I hold myself to

One pick per slot. No top-10 lists, no runner-ups.

A 1–3 rating that commits. 3 = nothing beats it right now. 2 = I know something better, or there's a flaw nobody fixes yet. 1 = good, but nowhere near best in slot.

Only things I actually use. Verdicts can take months.

Picks get replaced. When something beats a pick, the page says what it replaced (TBIS-01.1 → TBIS-01.2), like a changelog.

A few slots from my workspace

Chair: Steelcase Gesture (with headrest)

Primary monitor: ASUS ROG Strix XG34WCDG QD-OLED

Keyboard: Satechi Slim EX3

Mouse: ASUS ROG Harpe Ace Mini

Speakers: Edifier R1700BT

Router: ASUS RT-BE88U (Wi-Fi 7)

Air: LEVOIT Vital 200S-P purifier

The full list with ratings is at thebestinslot.com/setup.

 Why the 2s matter most

A 2 isn't a failure; it's a slot I want someone to beat. That's why there's a Community side: anyone can drop a product into a slot and rate it, and there's a "Build yours" page to assemble your own loadout.

What's in your keyboard slot, and would you give it a 3?
