When people think about IQ, one question often comes to mind:

"What was Einstein's IQ?"

Soon after, curiosity expands to other historical figures, scientists, inventors, writers, philosophers, and modern celebrities who are often associated with exceptional intelligence.

That's one reason we recently created a dedicated Famous IQs section:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs

The goal is simple: provide a centralized resource where readers can explore notable individuals, learn about their achievements, and discover the IQ estimates, records, and historical discussions associated with them.

Why People Are Fascinated by Famous IQs

IQ scores are not a perfect measure of intelligence.

Creativity, perseverance, emotional intelligence, domain expertise, and opportunity all play major roles in achievement. Even so, IQ remains one of the most widely discussed cognitive measurements in psychology.

This is why questions about the intelligence of famous individuals continue to attract interest decades after their deaths.

People want to know:

How intelligent was Albert Einstein?

Was Leonardo da Vinci a genius by modern standards?

How does Isaac Newton compare with modern scientists?

Which living people reportedly have exceptionally high IQs?

Are reported celebrity IQ scores actually reliable?

  Albert Einstein

Few names are more closely associated with intelligence than Albert Einstein.

Although no verified IQ score exists, estimates commonly place him among the highest intellectual achievers in modern history due to his revolutionary contributions to physics and mathematics.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/albert-einstein

  Isaac Newton

Newton fundamentally changed mathematics, optics, and physics.

His work on calculus and universal gravitation helped establish the foundations of modern science, which is why he frequently appears on lists of history's most intelligent individuals.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/isaac-newton

  Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci remains one of the most fascinating examples of multidisciplinary genius.

Artist, engineer, inventor, anatomist, and visionary, his intellectual range continues to impress historians centuries later. Because of this, many retrospective IQ estimates place him among the most gifted individuals ever studied.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/leonardo-da-vinci

  Nikola Tesla

Tesla's work in electrical engineering, wireless technology, and power systems helped shape the modern technological world.

His remarkable memory, creativity, and problem-solving ability have made him a frequent subject in discussions about extraordinary intelligence.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/nikola-tesla

  Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking demonstrated that intelligence is about far more than raw calculation.

Despite living with ALS, he made groundbreaking contributions to cosmology and black hole physics, becoming one of the most recognizable scientific minds of the modern era.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/stephen-hawking

  Marilyn vos Savant

Among living individuals, Marilyn vos Savant became famous for holding the highest recorded IQ listing in the Guinness Book of Records before the category was retired.

Her work popularized logic puzzles and critical thinking for millions of readers.

Read more:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/famous-iqs/marilyn-vos-savant

Can Historical IQ Estimates Be Trusted?

This is one of the most important questions.

For many historical figures, no formal modern IQ test exists. Researchers and historians often estimate intelligence based on biographies, achievements, academic records, writings, and retrospective analyses.

As a result:

Some IQ values are documented.

Some are estimates.

Some are controversial.

Many vary significantly depending on the source.

That's why understanding the context behind a reported score is often more interesting than the number itself.

  Beyond the Numbers

What makes Einstein, Newton, Tesla, da Vinci, and Hawking fascinating is not simply a score.

It's the impact they had on humanity.

Intelligence testing can provide useful insights, but achievement ultimately depends on many factors including creativity, discipline, education, opportunity, and persistence.

Studying famous IQs is therefore less about finding the highest number and more about understanding the remarkable people behind those numbers.

The Evolution of IQ Testing: Exploring More Than a Century of Intelligence Assessments

When most people hear the term "IQ test," they think of modern online assessments, Mensa-style puzzles, or standardized intelligence tests. What many don't realize is that intelligence testing has a surprisingly rich history stretching back more than a century.

Over the years, psychologists, educators, and researchers developed hundreds of different methods for measuring reasoning ability, problem-solving skills, memory, verbal aptitude, and abstract thinking. Some of these assessments became world-famous, while others have largely been forgotten despite their historical significance.

To help preserve and explore this history, we've created a dedicated archive of historical intelligence tests:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests

The collection brings together historical IQ tests, classic cognitive assessments, and educational resources that document how intelligence testing evolved over time.

  The Origins of Intelligence Testing

The roots of modern intelligence testing can be traced to the early 1900s. Researchers sought ways to identify educational needs, measure cognitive development, and better understand human reasoning abilities.

What began as educational research eventually grew into an entire scientific field known as psychometrics—the science of psychological measurement.

Many early tests focused on:

Logical reasoning

Vocabulary knowledge

Pattern recognition

Mathematical ability

Spatial reasoning

Memory and attention

These foundations continue to influence modern intelligence assessments today.

Historical Tests That Shaped Modern IQ Measurement

Dearborn Group Tests of Intelligence (1920)

One of the influential early group-administered intelligence tests was the Dearborn Group Tests of Intelligence.

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests/dearborn-group-test-1920

The test represented an important step toward scalable intelligence assessment and helped demonstrate how cognitive testing could be administered to larger populations.

Henmon-Nelson Tests of Mental Ability (1931)

The Henmon-Nelson Tests became widely used in educational settings and were known for measuring general mental ability through a combination of reasoning and problem-solving tasks.

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests/henmon-nelson-1931

Many of the concepts used in these tests can still be seen in contemporary aptitude assessments.

  Raven's Progressive Matrices (1936)

Few intelligence tests have had as much influence as Raven's Progressive Matrices.

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests/raven-progressive-matrices-1936-history

The matrix-completion format introduced by Raven became one of the most recognized methods for measuring abstract reasoning and fluid intelligence. Even today, similar matrix puzzles appear in many modern IQ tests.

  LSAT (1948)

Although primarily associated with law school admissions, the early LSAT became famous for its analytical reasoning and logic-based questions.

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests/lsat-1948

Its influence extends beyond legal education and has contributed to broader discussions about reasoning assessment and cognitive evaluation.

  How IQ Testing Has Changed

Historical intelligence tests often looked very different from modern assessments.

Early tests frequently emphasized:

Speed

General knowledge

Vocabulary

Arithmetic

Memory recall

Modern intelligence testing tends to focus more heavily on:

Fluid reasoning

Pattern recognition

Abstract thinking

Working memory

Processing speed

Spatial reasoning

This shift reflects decades of psychological research and improvements in test design.

Why Historical IQ Tests Still Matter

Historical tests offer more than nostalgia.

They provide valuable insights into:

The development of psychological science

Changes in educational systems

Evolving theories of intelligence

The history of psychometrics

How reasoning abilities have been measured across generations

For researchers, students, educators, and puzzle enthusiasts, these tests offer a fascinating look into how our understanding of intelligence has evolved.

Building a Historical IQ Test Archive

One challenge when researching intelligence testing history is that information is often scattered across books, academic papers, archives, and historical documents.

That's why we created a centralized archive where visitors can browse historical assessments and learn about the tests that helped shape modern cognitive measurement.

The archive currently includes historical intelligence tests spanning multiple decades, from early educational assessments to influential reasoning tests that remain relevant today.

Explore the complete collection here:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/historical-iq-tests

  Final Thoughts

Whether you're interested in psychology, education, cognitive science, or simply enjoy solving challenging puzzles, historical IQ tests offer a unique perspective on the evolution of human intelligence measurement.

Many modern assessments owe their existence to the pioneering work of researchers who developed these early tests. Understanding where today's IQ tests came from helps us better understand both the strengths and limitations of intelligence measurement itself.

Which historical intelligence test do you find most interesting? Raven's Progressive Matrices, Henmon-Nelson, Dearborn, LSAT, or another classic assessment from the history of psychometrics?

We Expanded Our IQ Platform With Cognitive Training Modes

For a long time, our platform at What’s Your IQ? focused mainly on measuring cognitive performance through IQ-style assessments.

But over time, one question kept appearing:

“Can cognitive abilities actually be improved?”

That question pushed us into a completely different direction.

Instead of only measuring performance, we decided to start building tools for training it too.

So we recently launched a full cognitive training section:
https://whats-your-iq.com/en/training

  Why We Built This

A lot of “brain training” platforms feel disconnected from actual cognitive domains.

Many are just casual mini-games with vague claims attached to them.

We wanted to approach things differently.

Instead of creating generic entertainment games, we tried to organize training around specific cognitive functions commonly associated with areas like:

working memory

attentional control

processing speed

cognitive flexibility

pattern recognition

verbal retrieval

spatial reasoning

The goal was not to promise “becoming a genius”.

The goal was to create focused exercises targeting specific mental processes individually.

  The Training Categories

We currently added multiple training categories, each focused on different aspects of cognition.

  Working Memory

This category focuses on the mental workspace used to temporarily hold and manipulate information.

Examples include:

remembering sequences

updating information in real time

tracking changing patterns

mentally juggling multiple variables

Working memory is heavily connected to reasoning, focus, and problem solving.

  Attention

Attention is one of the most underestimated cognitive abilities.

A huge percentage of cognitive mistakes are not caused by low intelligence, but by:

distraction

impulsive responses

reduced vigilance

inability to filter irrelevant stimuli

The attention exercises focus on selective attention, inhibitory control, and sustained focus under repetition.

  Memory

This section focuses more directly on recall capacity.

Different exercises target:

short-term memory

visual memory

associative memory

sequence retention

rapid recall

We tried to avoid turning this into simple memorization repetition and instead focused more on dynamic recall tasks.

  Processing Speed

Processing speed affects almost everything else cognitively.

Even strong reasoning becomes bottlenecked if information processing itself is slow.

This section includes tasks related to:

rapid recognition

mental arithmetic

reaction timing

information throughput

The interesting part is that improvements here often feel immediately noticeable during everyday activities.

  Focus & Flexibility

One cognitive skill people rarely train directly is task switching.

This category focuses on:

shifting between mental rules

adapting quickly

reducing switching costs

maintaining accuracy during cognitive transitions

It becomes surprisingly difficult once speed pressure is added.

  Reading Speed (RSVP)

This one became one of the most interesting additions.

We implemented RSVP-style reading training.

RSVP (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation) works by presenting words sequentially in a fixed location instead of requiring constant eye movement across lines.

The idea is to reduce saccadic movement overhead and improve reading throughput.

A lot of people report that this mode feels strange initially, but becomes surprisingly efficient after adaptation.

  Spatial Reasoning

Spatial manipulation is a major component of many STEM-related cognitive tasks.

This category focuses on:

mental rotation

shape manipulation

spatial visualization

geometric reasoning

These tasks are especially interesting because they feel very different from verbal or memory-based exercises.

  Pattern Recognition

Pattern extraction is at the core of reasoning itself.

This section focuses on identifying:

abstract rules

sequence logic

transformations

hidden structures

A huge portion of fluid reasoning depends on this ability.

  Verbal

The verbal section focuses less on “knowledge” and more on retrieval efficiency.

Examples include:

word association speed

semantic access

verbal fluency

linguistic processing

People often underestimate how computationally demanding rapid language retrieval actually is.

  One Important Distinction

We see these exercises as training tools, not definitive measures of intelligence.

That distinction matters.

Getting better at a task does not automatically mean overall intelligence increased equally across every domain.

At the same time, cognitive systems are not completely fixed either.

Reality is probably somewhere in the middle:

some gains are task-specific

some gains transfer partially

some cognitive abilities are more trainable than others

We are more interested in exploring that question honestly rather than making exaggerated marketing claims.

  What We’re Interested In

One of the most fascinating things while building this was seeing how different cognitive profiles emerge.

Some users are extremely fast but inaccurate.

Others have strong memory but weaker flexibility.

Some dominate verbal tasks while struggling heavily with spatial reasoning.

Human cognition is far more uneven and specialized than people often assume.

  Technical Direction

The platform is still evolving heavily.

Some things we are experimenting with:

adaptive difficulty systems

performance analytics

long-term progression tracking

cognitive profiling

fatigue detection

personalized training paths

expanded reaction-time calibration

additional reasoning categories

We are also interested in separating:

pure practice effects

genuine adaptation

strategy optimization

processing improvements

Which is much harder than it initially sounds.

  The Bigger Goal

Long term, we want the platform to become more than just an IQ score website.

We want it to become a broader cognitive performance platform.

Not just:

“What is your score?”

But also:

“How does your mind operate?”
“Where are your strengths?”
“What can improve?”
“What happens over time?”

That is a much more interesting problem.

  Try It Yourself

You can explore the training section here:

Would genuinely be interested to hear:

which categories feel hardest

whether people notice transfer effects

which cognitive domains feel most trainable

and whether repeated practice changes anything meaningful long term

Human cognition is still one of the most fascinating systems we interact with daily while barely understanding.

We Built an Advanced QR & Barcode Toolkit for the Web

  QR Code Generator

The generator supports many different data types.

You can create QR codes for:

text

URLs

email

phone numbers

SMS

WiFi credentials

contact cards

locations

calendar events

It also supports social links such as:

WhatsApp

Twitter

Instagram

Facebook

YouTube

And payment formats including:

PayPal

Bitcoin

Ethereum

  Deep QR Customization

Instead of generating plain black-and-white QR codes, the generator allows extensive visual customization.

  Dot Styles

QR modules can be rendered using different shapes such as:

square

dots

rounded

diamond

pentagon

hexagon

star

heart

triangle

leaf

gear

crescent

  Eye Frame Styles

The finder patterns (corner squares) can be customized with styles like:

square

circle

rounded

directional frames

corner-only styles

cut styles

  Eye Ball Styles

The center eye elements can be customized independently with shapes including:

square

circle

rounded

directional cuts

diagonal shapes

heart style

  Size & Error Correction

QR codes can be generated in multiple sizes:

250px

300px

400px

500px

Error correction levels are configurable:

Low (7%)

Medium (15%)

Quality (25%)

High (30%)

Higher error correction allows QR codes to remain scannable even if partially damaged or partially covered.

  Color Customization

You can customize:

QR foreground color

background color

gradient effects

custom eye colors

This allows the QR code to match a brand or design system.

  Advanced Rendering Options

Additional styling options include:

rotation

liquid radius

dot spacing

piece stroke

gradient rendering

These options allow creating unique QR designs while maintaining scan reliability.

  Logo Embedding

You can embed a logo in the center of the QR code.

Because of QR error correction, the code can still be scanned even when part of it is covered by the logo.

  Built-in QR Scanner

The platform also includes scanning capabilities.

You can scan codes using:

your device camera

uploaded images

screenshots

The scanner detects both QR codes and traditional barcodes.

  Barcode Generator

In addition to QR codes, the platform supports generating traditional barcodes used in:

retail

logistics

inventory systems

warehouses

  Try It

You can try the platform here:

You can:

generate QR codes

generate barcodes

scan QR codes using your camera

decode QR codes from images

All directly in your browser.

We Built a Scientifically Designed Online IQ Test (and Explained the Methodology Behind It)

Over the past months we built a project called:

https://whats-your-iq.com/

Most online IQ tests are either entertainment quizzes or opaque scoring systems where you answer some questions and receive a number without understanding how it was calculated.

So instead of building another quiz, we focused on building something different:

A transparent intelligence assessment platform where the methodology is fully documented.

You can read the full methodology here:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/our-iq-test-methodology

The Problem With Most Online IQ Tests

Most online tests use extremely simple scoring models.

Typical approach:

count correct answers

divide by total questions

convert to a number that looks like an IQ score

The issue is that real cognitive assessments do not work this way.

Professional psychometric tests account for:

question difficulty

guessing probability

measurement error

reliability

response validity

Without these elements, the score has little statistical meaning.

  Our Approach

Instead of simple raw scoring, the system uses modern psychometric measurement methods.

The methodology includes:

Item Response Theory (IRT 3PL)

reliability estimation

measurement error modeling

response validity checks

confidence interval reporting

These frameworks are commonly used in standardized assessments.

  Item Response Theory (IRT)

Instead of counting correct answers, the system estimates cognitive ability using Item Response Theory.

IRT models the probability that a person with a certain ability level will answer each question correctly.

Each item includes parameters such as:

difficulty

discrimination

guessing probability

The final ability estimate is calculated using Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimation based on the full response pattern.

  Reliability of the Test

Reliability is estimated using Cronbach's Alpha.

Current estimate:

α ≈ 0.94

Values above 0.90 indicate very high internal consistency.

  Calibrated Question Bank

The test is built on a calibrated item bank using Item Response Theory (IRT).

Current dataset:

73 psychometrically calibrated questions

10,000+ cleaned response samples used for parameter estimation

Responses used for calibration go through a data quality pipeline before being included in the dataset.

The cleaning process removes noisy or invalid responses such as:

extremely fast responses indicating random answering

inconsistent response patterns

incomplete test sessions

duplicate or automated submissions

After filtering the dataset, the remaining responses are used to estimate item parameters including:

difficulty

discrimination

guessing probability

As the dataset grows, the item parameters and score norms are recalibrated using the updated response pool, improving the stability and accuracy of the ability estimates.

This continuous calibration process allows the test to become more reliable as more valid responses are collected.

  Validity Checks

The system also includes response validity indicators.

Examples include:

person-fit analysis

response pattern detection

rapid guessing detection

response speed analysis

These checks help detect invalid response behavior.

  Cognitive Domains Measured

The assessment evaluates multiple areas of reasoning.

These include:

logical reasoning

spatial intelligence

verbal comprehension

working memory

processing speed

quantitative reasoning

pattern recognition

creative reasoning

  Score Interpretation

Scores follow the standard IQ distribution model:

Mean = 100
Standard deviation = 15

Percentiles are estimated using this theoretical distribution.

  Important Transparency Note

The test follows modern psychometric principles but it is not a clinical psychological assessment.

It does not replace professionally administered tests such as:

WAIS

Stanford-Binet

Those require administration by licensed psychologists.

Why We Published the Full Methodology

Most online IQ tests hide their scoring methods.

We chose to publish ours openly so users can understand:

how the score is calculated

what the test measures

what the limitations are

Full methodology:

https://whats-your-iq.com/en/our-iq-test-methodology

  Try the Test

If you're curious about the system, you can try it here:

https://whats-your-iq.com/

I've been building websites and providing online technical support for more than 10 years. During that time I kept running into the same small problems again and again.

Things like converting files, compressing images, trimming media, formatting JSON, generating UUIDs, or quickly calculating something.

The tools exist, but they're scattered across dozens of different websites. Many require uploads, accounts, or have annoying limits.

So I started building my own collection of tools that solve these small tasks quickly and run entirely in the browser:

convert files

compress media

manipulate images

use developer utilities

run quick calculators

process text or network data

So I built this:

https://file-converter-free.com/

All tools run entirely inside the browser.

No uploads to servers

No accounts required

No limits

No watermarks

Your files stay on your device and disappear when the tab is closed.

  File Converters

Convert many file types directly in your browser.

Image Converter — Convert images between formats such as PNG, JPG, WebP and more.

Video Converter — Convert video files into different formats.

Audio Converter — Convert audio files between formats.

Document Converter — Convert document files into different formats.

Presentation Converter — Convert presentation formats.

Ebook Converter — Convert ebook formats for different readers.

Archive Converter — Convert archive formats.

Font Converter — Convert font files between formats.

  File Compressors

Reduce file sizes for easier storage and sharing.

Image Compressor — Compress images while maintaining quality.

Video Compressor — Reduce video file size.

Audio Compressor — Compress audio files.

Presentation Compressor — Compress presentation files.

🚀 How I Built a Bridge Between VS Code and My Phone — VSCoder Copilot

Ever wished you could review pull requests or fix bugs from your phone without SSH or remote desktop?
I had that same problem — so I built a bridge that connects GitHub Copilot on your desktop to your mobile device, securely and instantly.

  🧠 The Idea

Developers often work on the go — but tools like VS Code and GitHub Copilot are tied to the desktop.
My goal was simple:

Make Copilot available anywhere — without sacrificing privacy or setup simplicity.

That’s how VSCoder Copilot was born: a mobile companion app that lets you chat with AI, review code, and make quick fixes right from your phone.

  ⚙️ How It Works

VS Code Extension runs a lightweight server on your desktop

Mobile App connects using a secure 6-digit pairing code

Both communicate via an encrypted Discovery API — no port forwarding or VPN required

AI responses are synced instantly between VS Code and your phone

Here’s the flow 👇

Phone → Secure Cloud → VS Code Extension
      ↕ ↕
Real-time AI chat + file edits

  🔒 Security First

End-to-end encryption

Temporary pairing codes that expire every 10 minutes

Device approval required before connection

All data stays between your devices — no cloud file storage

  📱 Real-World Use Cases

Review PRs while commuting 🚆

Fix small bugs without opening a laptop ☕

Ask Copilot questions about your workspace while away 🧠

Keep coding even when traveling 🌍

  🧩 Tech Stack

VS Code Extension: TypeScript

Mobile App: React Native + Expo + Firebase

Backend: Go + WebSocket Discovery API

AI Models: GitHub Copilot (GPT-4o, Claude 3.5, etc.)

  🌟 Why I Built It

I wanted a seamless way to continue coding without context switching — to have my entire workspace available anywhere.
Instead of syncing files or using remote desktops, I created a bridge — lightweight, secure, and developer-friendly.

  🧪 Try It Out

📦 VS Code Extension: VSCoder Copilot on Marketplace

📱 Mobile App: Google Play Store

🌐 Website: vscodercopilot.com.tr

  💬 Feedback Welcome

I’d love to hear your thoughts —
What would make this more useful for you?
Offline sync? Team collaboration?
Drop a comment below or DM me — I read everything.

Tags:
#vscode

#ai

#mobile

#productivity
