Hey devs! 👋

As a cloud beginner, one of my biggest fears was accidentally leaving a resource running and waking up to a massive AWS bill.

Before diving into complex cloud architectures, the very first thing every beginner should do is set up AWS Budget Alerts. Here is a quick step-by-step guide to keep your account safe!

🛠️ Step-by-Step Setup:

Navigate to AWS Budgets: Log in to AWS Console and search for AWS Budgets.

Create a Budget: Click Create budget. Choose Cost budget (e.g., set a $10/month limit) or Zero spend budget if you only want to use the Free Tier.

Set Alert Thresholds: Configure an alert to trigger when actual or forecasted spend reaches 80% of your limit.

Add Recipient Email: Enter your primary email address to receive real-time notifications.

Confirm and Save: Review the settings and click Create budget.

💬 Wrap Up

Setting this up took less than 5 minutes, but it gave me total peace of mind to experiment with AWS services.

What was your biggest unexpected cloud bill story? Let me know in the comments below!

Eugene
