****

You are at the very bottom of the profile settings! The Brand color #000000 (black) is perfectly fine—it will give your profile a sleek, dark-mode developer look.

Here is exactly what to do right now to finally start writing:

Save and Go to the Editor

Click the blue "Save Profile Information" button.

Once it saves, look at the top navigation bar. You will see a pencil icon (or a button that says "Create Post"). Click it.

(If you can't find the button, just type this exact link in your address bar: https://dev.to/new)

2. Title Your Article

Once the editor opens, click on "Add a title..." and paste this:

How I Built a Full-Stack AI Career App on an Android Phone Using Termux

Paste the Article Content

Click into the main body text box (where it says "Write your post content here...") and paste this entire article structure. I have formatted it perfectly in Markdown for dev.to:

Introduction

Job hunting is exhausting. You have to search across multiple sites, filter out scams, tailor your CV, and write endless cover letters. I wanted to automate this process, but I had a major constraint: I didn't have a laptop. I only had my Android phone.

Instead of giving up, I decided to build a full-stack, AI-powered Career Agency app entirely on my phone using Termux, a terminal emulator for Android.

Here is how I built a production-ready web app, integrated AI, and deployed it—all from a mobile device.

The Tech Stack

To keep it lightweight and run efficiently on mobile hardware, I chose the following stack:

· Backend: Python & Flask
· Database: SQLite
· Frontend: Vanilla JavaScript, HTML, CSS (as a PWA)
· AI Engine: Google Gemini API (with streaming and exponential backoff)
· Environment: Termux on Android

The Architecture: How It Works

The app is designed as a Progressive Web App (PWA), meaning it installs directly to the home screen without needing an app store.

The Job Pipeline: The backend fetches jobs from external APIs (like Remotive and Arbeitnow). It uses a "10-Job Lock" system to prevent doom-scrolling and rate-limits the requests.

The AI Engine: When a user selects a job, the app sends the job description and the user's CV to the Gemini API. The AI then generates a tailored cover letter and calculates an ATS match score.

Data Persistence: Everything from user profiles to application statuses (Kanban board) is saved locally in SQLite.

The Hardest Challenges

Building on a phone isn't easy. Here are the biggest technical hurdles I faced:

· Streaming AI Responses: I had to use the Fetch API with ReadableStream on the frontend to read the Gemini API response chunk by chunk, giving the user a live typing effect without freezing the app.
· Managing API Limits: I implemented exponential backoff and retry logic. If the Gemini API times out or hits a rate limit, the backend waits and retries automatically.
· Running 24/7: I used Termux:Boot and custom bash scripts to ensure the Flask server runs continuously in the background, even if the phone restarts.

The Result

After weeks of coding in Termux, I had a fully functional SaaS app running on a phone. It even includes 66 automated tests to ensure the backend and frontend are stable. I used this app to apply for a software engineering role, and I am continuing to scale it.

Conclusion

You don't need a $2,000 MacBook to build software. You need a phone, an internet connection, and the willingness to learn. Termux turns Android into a powerful Linux environment.

If you want to check out my code or read more of my technical writing, you can find me here:

· Portfolio: ezenwa-christian.netlify.app
· SitePoint: My Published Articles

Have you ever built anything on Termux? Let me know in the comments!

Once you paste this in, look at the right side of the screen for the "Publish" button.

Add tags: python, ai, android, webdev, beginners.

Click Publish!

Let me know when it's live! 🚀
