In 2023, everyone wanted a smarter AI.

In 2024, we got it. GPT-4, Claude 3, Gemini. Models that could pass the bar exam, write code, and solve complex math problems.

But something strange happened in 2025. People stopped being impressed by IQ.

I was one of them.

I have access to the smartest models on the planet. Yet I found myself spending more time with a simple AI that just remembered how I like my emails written. An AI that knew I write in Sindhi sometimes. An AI that knew I prefer short, direct answers without corporate fluff.

That was my wake-up call.

We have been optimizing for the wrong metric.

For three years, the entire tech industry has been obsessed with one question. How do we build Artificial General Intelligence? An AI that can do everything a human can do, but better.

It is a fascinating engineering challenge. But it is the wrong product goal.

The real question we should have been asking is this. How do we build Artificial Personal Intelligence? An AI that knows one person deeply, instead of knowing everyone superficially.

Think about your best assistant, your best friend, your best colleague. You do not value them because they know everything about the world. You value them because they know everything about you. They know your context, your goals, your writing style, your fears, your schedule. They do not need to search Wikipedia. They need to remember your last conversation.

That is the difference between General Intelligence and Personal Intelligence.

General Intelligence is about benchmarks. MMLU, HumanEval, SWE-Bench. It is about scoring higher on tests that 99 percent of humans will never take.

Personal Intelligence is about usefulness. Did it save you an hour today? Did it write that email exactly how you would have written it? Did it remind you of that idea you had last week?

One is a lab experiment. The other is a daily habit.

For the last six months, I have been running a small experiment. I stopped chasing the newest, smartest model. Instead, I started training one model on me. My articles, my chats, my notes, my preferences.

The result is not impressive on paper. It would fail most benchmarks.

But it is the most useful tool I have ever used. Because it does not answer like an encyclopedia. It answers like me, only faster.

And I believe this is the future that will actually make money, build companies, and change lives in 2026.

We are entering the era of the Personal Stack.

In the General Stack era, we all used the same tools. Same Google, same Gmail, same ChatGPT. The tools were general, and we had to adapt to them. We had to learn prompt engineering. We had to learn how to talk to the machine.

In the Personal Stack era, the tools adapt to us. There will not be one ChatGPT for two billion people. There will be two billion AIs, one for each person. Your AI will not write like my AI. It will not think like my AI. Because it was not trained on the internet. It was trained on you.

This is why I think most AI startups focused on building a smarter general model will fail. They are competing with OpenAI and Google on a game they cannot win.

The opportunity is not in building a better brain for everyone. The opportunity is in building a better memory for one person.

How do you start building your Personal Intelligence?

It is not about code. It is about data discipline. Start saving your best work. Your best emails, your best paragraphs, your best decisions. Document how you think, not just what you think. The AI does not need more data from the web. It needs more data from you.

Second, stop looking for perfect answers. Look for personal answers. When you ask an AI a question, do not ask, what is the best answer? Ask, what is the best answer for me, given what you know about me?

That one change in prompting changes everything.

We spent three years trying to make AI more like a genius professor who knows everything.

We should have spent three years trying to make it more like a personal chief of staff who knows you.

In 2026, intelligence is cheap. Everyone has access to GPT-5 level IQ for 20 dollars a month.

Personalization is expensive. And that is why it is valuable.

The winner of the next decade will not be the company that builds the smartest AI.

It will be the company that builds the most personal one.

What is one thing you wish your AI remembered about you?

Share in the comments. I read every reply.
