This morning (28 Sep 2026) I pulled the live job boards of 70-plus AI and infrastructure companies and read the location strings myself. Here is what is genuinely open to someone based in Europe, and where the word "remote" is lying.</p> <p>My bar: real engineering scope, remote-first (not hybrid-locked), and a company actually building AI or the platform under it.</p> <h2> Open, and worth your time </h2> <ul> <li> <strong>Synthesia - Principal ML Platform Engineer</strong> (Europe, fully remote). Platform layer for generative video, not a research seat. One of the few genuinely senior <em>platform</em> roles tagged Europe-wide.</li> <li> <strong>Reddit - Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Ads Foundational Representations</strong> (Remote UK / Remote Netherlands). ML at scale with a clear ownership area; listed separately per country.</li> <li> <strong>Grafana Labs - Staff Backend Engineer, Alerting &amp; Databases</strong> (Remote: Germany, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, UK). Several seats, fully remote across the EU/UK, on the observability stack half of Europe already runs.</li> <li> <strong>Grafana Labs - Staff Software Engineer, Databases SRE</strong> (Remote: Germany, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, UK). Reliability ownership of the data plane.</li> <li> <strong>Datadog - Staff Software Engineer, Security Agent</strong> (Remote: France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain). Product engineering, real remote.</li> <li> <strong>Fivetran - Principal Software Engineer, Data Lakes</strong> (Remote Germany, EMEA). Senior IC on the data platform.</li> <li> <strong>Cohere - Member of Technical Staff, Agentic Environments</strong> (Europe). Odd title, serious scope: agentic tooling and environments.</li> <li> <strong>Deepgram - Senior Solutions Architect, Europe</strong> (EU Remote). For the architect type who likes speech and AI infrastructure.</li> <li> <strong>Twilio - Machine Learning Engineer</strong> (Remote Ireland / Remote Spain). Two EMEA seats out of a board full of US ones.</li> <li> <strong>Canonical - Senior Site Reliability Engineer</strong> (Home based, worldwide). One of the very few truly global remote tags.</li> </ul> <h2> "Remote" that isn't, if you're in Europe </h2> <ul> <li>Almost everything at Coinbase, most of Stripe, LaunchDarkly and many Databricks and Twilio roles say "Remote" and then name a US state or "US Remote". Read the location line, not the badge.</li> <li>Databricks' Solutions Architect roles are state-specific US, despite the Remote tag.</li> <li>Canonical's "Senior/Staff/Principal Engineer" is a general-track funnel with no team, stack or scope named. The SRE roles at the same company are the real ones.</li> <li>"Remote or Hybrid" is still hybrid: the office city is usually the real requirement.</li> </ul> <h2> Two things I'd tell you </h2> <ol> <li>Several of these post no salary band. That is normal for EU companies and not a red flag by itself, but make the number one of your first questions instead of spending three rounds guessing.</li> <li>This is a snapshot from 28 Sep 2026, read straight off company boards. Roles close fast. Verify at the link before you spend an evening on a form.</li> </ol> <p>This is what I do: read roles, say which are worth your time and which to skip.
