Sit tall, feet flat. Slow chin nods, about five. Ear toward the shoulder, about three each side, no pulling with the hand. Small slow circles, then back to looking straight ahead. Stop if it is sharp or you feel dizzy.

I keep a short version of this between calls with Flexor App for stretching.

Sit tall, feet flat. Soft chest-open: clasp your hands behind the chair and open the chest for about 20 seconds. Then seated cat–cow, six slow reps. Finish by hugging yourself, left then right, about 15 seconds each, for the mid-back. Stop if anything feels sharp or you get dizzy.

A 2-minute shoulder drop between Zoom blocks

After back-to-back calls, I drop both shoulders on a long exhale for five breaths. Soft shoulder rolls back five times, then forward five times. Clasp hands behind the back (or hold the chair back) and open the chest for about 20 seconds. Keep it gentle — stop if anything feels sharp.

When I have 5–15 minutes later, I follow a short guided desk routine in Flexor App for stretching.

Every hour at the desk — look 20 feet away for 20 seconds, blink slowly 10×, palm eyes 15s. Optional slow gaze left-right without moving the head. I keep a short guided desk routine in Flexor App for stretching for longer 5–15 min breaks (offline works).

A 3-minute hip unlock after a long coding block

After a long coding block, try this 3-minute hip reset:

Stand tall and take a few easy breaths.

Step one foot back into a short split stance. Tuck the back-side glute gently, then shift your weight forward until you feel a mild stretch at the front of that hip. Hold for 30 seconds per side.

Sit back into a comfortable figure-four shape—standing or seated—and hinge slightly from the hips. Hold for 30 seconds per side.

Finish with five slow bodyweight squats, keeping the range easy and the knees tracking comfortably.

Move slowly, keep the sensation mild, and stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, or tingling. A small reset between blocks can make it easier to return to the keyboard with less stiffness.

A 3-minute morning desk reset before the inbox

Before you open Slack, give your body a tiny desk reset.

Try three minutes:

Stand and look out a window for 20 seconds

Slow shoulder rolls and a gentle chin tuck

Open the front of the hips carefully if you’ve been sitting already, or just march in place for 30 seconds

Keep it pain-free. If you want a longer guided stretch later (5–15 min, video + spoken), Flexor App for stretching is a soft option.

Soft reset → then the inbox.

A 90-second eye-and-shoulder reset between pull requests

Deep-work blocks are great until your eyes feel glued to the diff and your shoulders creep up to your ears.

Tiny reset:

Save, look across the room for 20 seconds (far focus)

Drop the shoulders on an exhale

If you have 5–15 minutes, follow a short guided desk stretch with spoken cues so you don’t stare at the screen while “stretching”

Not a productivity hack. Just a kinder mid-afternoon reset. Soft option if you want press-play later: Flexor App for stretching.

2-minute screen break for WFH afternoons

Long laptop sessions can leave your neck and shoulders feeling stuck.

A short guided break helps — Flexor’s desk routines run about 5–15 minutes with video and spoken cues, and they work offline.

https://flexor.app/download
A 2-minute screen-break cue for WFH afternoons

When the afternoon blur hits, try a tiny screen-break reset before reaching for more coffee.

Save your work and look at something across the room for 20 seconds.

Stand up and let your arms hang by your sides.

Take three slow breaths, then roll your shoulders once or twice.

Sit back down with your feet flat and the keyboard a little closer.

Small cues are easier to repeat than heroic routines. If a guided nudge helps, Flexor has desk-friendly stretches here: https://flexor.app/desk-stretching

A 60-second wrist reset for long keyboard days

Long keyboard sessions can leave your wrists and forearms feeling just as parked as your shoulders. Try this gentle, no-equipment reset between work blocks.

 The 60-second reset

Sit tall and let your shoulders drop.

Extend one arm forward, palm up, with the elbow soft.

With the other hand, gently draw the fingers toward the floor for 10 seconds.

Turn the palm down and repeat with a light pull for 10 seconds.

Switch sides, then finish with a few slow wrist circles.

Keep the movement easy—this should feel like space, not a deep stretch. If you feel sharp pain or numbness, stop and get advice from a qualified professional.

For a guided version, Flexor has short desk-friendly routines at https://flexor.app/desk-stretching. The app is also available on the App Store and Google Play.

The desk stretch people forget: your ankles

Most desk-stretch lists start at the shoulders. Try starting lower.

 A 45-second ankle reset

Sit tall with both feet on the floor.

Lift your heels, pause, then lower slowly.

Lift your toes while keeping your heels down.

Make a few slow ankle circles in each direction.

Finish by standing up and taking three easy steps.

It is a small change, but it breaks up the “feet parked under the desk” feeling without needing a mat or a change of clothes. I like pairing it with the moment I refill my water.

Keep the range comfortable and skip anything that causes pain. For more gentle desk and WFH mobility ideas, there are a few on Flexor.
