This year again, Supabase surveyed 2,000+ startup founders to uncover what's powering modern startups: their stacks, their GTM motion, and how they approach AI.

My key takeaways:

78% of founders are technical.
Claude Code became the most-named must-have dev tool (31%). VS Code held flat (22%). Cursor dropped to 15%. v0, Bolt, and Windsurf each lost 6-9%. Anthropic models are the most used.
AI-generated code is the median experience. 62% of startups have more than half their codebase written by AI. 41% are at 76-100%. Only 2% are at zero.
Founders still do sales themselves. Personal networks remain the top source of initial paying customers (56%). 67% of respondents have never tried paid acquisition.
Founders are broadcasting less. Social media lost users across every major platform. Conferences emptied out.
Technical complexity is no longer the main challenge. AI ate the hard parts of shipping. What replaced it: burn out, AI-competition fear, runway anxiety.
56% of founders remain optimistic about the future.

OpenClaw

Launched last February on Product Hunt, the AI that "actually does things" is the fastest ever growing project on GitHub with 300k+ stars and 70k+ forks. It created a new category, enabling 50+ related products like moltbook (acquired by Meta) and KiloClaw - both ranked #1 Product of the Day.

Kilo Code

First launched last year, the open-source agentic engineering platform (19k+ GitHub stars) launched a code reviewer and a new VS Code extension this year. Both ranked #1 Product of the Day and #1 Product of the Week.

InsForge

The backend platform launched 2.0, hit 10k GitHub stars, ranked #1 Product of the Day, #3 Product of the Week, and joined YC. The Product Hunt effect?

Tailgrids

The 3.0 release of this React UI library ranked #1 Product of the Day.

Ghost

The latest project by @haydenbleasel, maker of next-forge, Kibo UI, and Ultracite, just cracked Product Hunt again, ranked #1 Product of the Day.

Last week, Kilo Code launched for the fourth time on Product Hunt, introducing a new VS Code extension. The product ranked #1 Product of the Day and #1 Product of the Week.

I had the opportunity to work on this launch. Here's a breakdown of what we did and how to apply it to your launch.

Reverse-engineering Kilo's recent Product Hunt launch

Straightforward tagline. The 60-character tagline might be the most important part of a launch. It's the first thing you see on the front page. Here, we highlighted the features, not the benefits.
Minimalist visual assets. The image gallery is the first impression of your product. It sets expectations. We highlighted 3 images. No stock images, no marketing fluff. Just product screenshots. Show the product.
Feedback first. Like the tagline and the visual assets, we kept the first comments simple. No looooooong background stories, the objective is to start the conversation. We upvote and replied to every comment, curious about what the community thinks of the release.

Keeping the momentum

There's one more thing we experimented with for this launch. Post-launch, the team started running a display ad campaign. The objective is to keep the momentum going.
