I Built a Free ATS-Friendly LaTeX Resume Builder

As a software engineer, I've always liked the clean and professional look of LaTeX resumes.

Templates like Jake's Resume, Deedy CV, and Awesome CV are widely used by engineers because they produce consistent formatting, excellent typography, and often work well with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

The problem is that many job seekers never end up using them.

To customize a LaTeX resume, most people have to:

Learn basic LaTeX syntax

Create an Overleaf account

Understand project structures

Fix compilation errors

Spend hours tweaking formatting

For developers this might be manageable, but for students and job seekers it creates unnecessary friction.

 The Idea

I wanted a simpler workflow:

Pick a resume template

Fill in your information

Generate a professional resume

Without having to learn LaTeX first.

That's why I built:

https://freelatexresume.com

A free ATS-friendly LaTeX resume builder focused on popular templates used in the software engineering community.

 Tech Stack

The project is built using:

Astro

Tailwind CSS

Cloudflare

I chose Astro because I wanted excellent performance and strong SEO fundamentals from day one.

 Current Features

The platform currently includes:

ATS-friendly resume generation

Jake's Resume support

Template previews

Resume customization

SEO-focused content around LaTeX resumes

 Building the SEO Foundation

Since the project is brand new, I spent a significant amount of time thinking about information architecture.

Instead of publishing random blog posts, I created topic clusters around:

 LaTeX Resume

What is a LaTeX Resume?

LaTeX Resume Templates

Free LaTeX Resume Builder

 Jake Resume

What is Jake Resume?

Jake Resume Template

Jake Resume Overleaf Guide

Is Jake Resume ATS Friendly?

Jake Resume vs Deedy CV

The goal is to create useful resources for job seekers while building topical authority around LaTeX resumes.

 Early Results

The site launched recently.

So far:

Indexed by Google

Indexed by Bing

Receiving search impressions

First organic clicks

First international visitors

It's still very early, but it's exciting to see search engines already testing the pages.

 Lessons Learned

A few things stood out while building:

 SEO Takes Longer Than Development

Building the actual website was faster than creating the content structure and keyword clusters.

 Technical SEO Is Important

Setting up:

Search Console

Analytics

Sitemaps

Structured data

Internal linking

was essential before thinking about traffic.

 Authority Matters

A new website can have excellent content and still struggle to rank until it earns trust and backlinks.

 What's Next

The roadmap includes:

Additional resume templates

ATS-focused content

Better customization features

More resume examples

Improved builder experience

 Looking For Feedback

If you've used:

Jake's Resume

Deedy CV

Awesome CV

Overleaf

I'd love to know:

What was the most frustrating part of creating your resume?

I'm always looking for ways to make the process easier for job seekers and software engineers.
