From Disability to Development.

** “When I walk, the sun walks with me. When I stop, it stops too. Even as a child, I felt like the universe was speaking to me.”**

My name is Vivek Kumar. I was born in Bundelkhand, a region filled with history, resilience, and raw beauty. I grew up in Delhi, attending a government school where resources were limited but curiosity was abundant. I also live with a visual impairment, but that has never stopped me from dreaming big.

A Curious Mind with a Thousand Questions

From a young age, I was the kid who questioned everything:

Why does the sun rise in the east and never in the north or south?

Why do things feel lighter in water than on land?

Why does the sun seem to walk with me when I walk, and stop when I stop?

These weren’t just childhood curiosities. They were the first signs of a scientific mind trying to decode the world.

At the same time, I was mesmerized by electronics—radios, TVs, old Nokia phones. I wondered how sound came from radios, how TVs played moving images, and how Snake worked inside a device I couldn’t even see properly. Even though my vision was blurry, my imagination was crystal clear.

From Wonder to Purpose: Choosing Computer Science

As I grew older, I realized I didn’t just want to understand technology—I wanted to build it.

That’s why I chose to study Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). I believe technology can break barriers, especially for people with disabilities. Getting into Delhi Technological University (DTU) was tough. Succeeding there with a visual impairment? Even tougher.

But I adapted. I used screen readers, audio tools, and alternative ways to code. Every day I show up, not because it’s easy, but because it’s worth it.

Coding, for me, is not about syntax—it’s about sight beyond sight.

I Was Born with a Disability, But I Will Not Live with It

There were moments when I wanted to quit. When I couldn’t read the blackboard. When people stared, assumed, or ignored me. But every time, I rose again. Because I am not here just to survive. I’m here to lead, create, and transform.

Disability is real—but so is resilience.

My love for tech began with learning how to use a computer slowly, typing with focus, and researching accessibility tools for hours. Over time, I fell in love with programming. It gave me a voice, control, and the power to imagine solutions.

I completed a Diploma in Computer Engineering and now study Computer Science at DTU. I’ve learned C, Python, and web development, and participated in AI workshops and tech clubs. I’m particularly passionate about creating solutions that level the playing field—like accessibility-focused tools for low-vision users.

 Inspiration and Purpose

My journey is inspired by:

Stephen Hawking, who defied ALS to explore black holes.

Steve Jobs, who saw elegance in thinking differently.

Srinivasa Ramanujan, who proved that genius knows no privilege.

Ray Kurzweil and Tim Berners-Lee, who revolutionized the world with code.

They remind me that one idea, even in adversity, can change the world.

 A Message for Every Dreamer

To anyone who feels unseen, unheard, or underestimated—this is for you:

Don’t lose hope in hard work.

Don’t care about what society says.

Focus on yourself. Build yourself. Trust yourself.

If a visually impaired boy from Bundelkhand, who studied in a government school in Delhi, can make it to DTU and pursue Computer Science—then so can you.

 Developer Bio

Vivek Kumar is a first-year Computer Science student at Delhi Technological University (DTU). He is passionate about AI, accessibility, and inclusive innovation, and dreams of building assistive technologies that empower millions.
