Hacktoberfest 2023 Recap - Maintainer's Reflection

 Introduction 🌍

Welcome to EduSmart, an open-source project aiming to revolutionize online education! In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, EduSmart leverages the power of 3D models and augmented reality to enhance the e-learning experience. Traditional online classes can often be dull and uninspiring, making it difficult for students to engage with and retain information, especially in subjects requiring hands-on experience. EduSmart addresses these challenges by providing realistic simulations and interactive learning opportunities.

EduSmart Demo

 Contributing 🤝

We welcome contributors to join the EduSmart project and help us make online learning more engaging and effective. To get started, please consult our Contribution Guide for instructions on local setup and contribution guidelines.

 Demo 🎥

Live Demo

Presentation

Demo Video

 Features 🚀

EduSmart offers the following key features:

Interactive 3D Models

Perseverance Rover Information

Augmented Reality Learning

Chatbot Assistant

 Tech Stack 💻

EduSmart is built using a modern tech stack that includes:

SAWO Labs

React JS

Node JS

Express JS

Socket IO

React-three-fiber

echoAR

Tailwind CSS & CSS

 Credits 🤝

We want to extend our gratitude to the following organizations and platforms:

Passwordless Authentication: SAWO Labs

AR: echoAR

3D Models: Sketchfab

 Highs and Lows

During Hacktoberfest 2023, EduSmart experienced significant growth and development. The participation and enthusiasm of contributors were inspiring, with many creative ideas and improvements to the project.

A high point was the introduction of an augmented reality learning feature. It was a groundbreaking moment that brought a new level of interactivity to our project.

However, we also faced challenges in managing the influx of contributions. Some pull requests required substantial code refactoring and extensive testing, which added a workload for the maintainers. Effective communication and collaboration with contributors were key to overcoming these challenges.

 Growth

Before Hacktoberfest 2023, I had been working on EduSmart, but this event exposed me to a broader community of contributors and diverse ideas. It improved my skills in project management, code review, and collaboration.

The success of the augmented reality feature has encouraged us to explore even more innovative ways to enhance online education. We are now focused on improving the stability and performance of the project and fostering a supportive community of contributors.

In conclusion, Hacktoberfest 2023 has been a transformative experience for EduSmart, and we look forward to a bright future of making online education more engaging and accessible.

Keeping this blog short and covered FAQ about hackathons 🙌
(won @uplift_project by @Girlscript1)

Things I've covered in this blog🧐:

When you are ready for a hackathon?

How can you win a hackathon?

What else you should know Apart from coding?

Benefits of Hackathon?

Tips!

 Let's go!🚀

 1. When you are ready for a hackathon?

You are always ready for a hackathon until and unless you want to learn new skills.

 2. How can you win a hackathon?🥉

I've experienced multiple hackathons for different organizations. I can answer that.

first and foremost,

Idea - you must have something unique and creative with your project.

Implementation - If your project has some real-life use or if it can be implemented in the future.

UI/UX - yes, the UI should be as good as the Idea of your project.

Tech stack - sometimes the tech stack you are using in your project can impress the judges. 😉

 3. What else you should know apart from coding?🤔

You must have good writing skills, your words should be on 'point' (doesn't mean lengthy words).

You'll need good writing skills to make PPT & Readme of your project.

 4. Benefits of Hackathon?✨

Of course SWAGS! , you'll get amazing prizes, swags, and certificates.

You'll work in a team.

Most importantly, You'll earn some good friends and grow in the community.

 Tips:

Showcase your project to a Mentor before submission.

Happy hacking!👩‍💻

I made my own VS Code theme in less than an hour, here's how? [Part 2]

Following my Previous Blog :

After designing your theme,

Go to
your themes
option by following url and download the source code (JSON file) to your device.

Now, this is the major step where you'll have to replace the current JSON file to the downloaded file.

so keep calm and Let's go!! 🚀

Open the VSCE Installed folder/ codebase (check out the previous blog) and you'll get a similar list of directories.

In the
themes folder
, Replace the Downloaded file from the current file and rename your theme to whatever you want!

Let's Make a
.vsix
file so that it can be published to
visual studio marketplace

open up your terminal

2 follow the command
vsce publish
, which will make a .vsix file.

Now, go to the
visual studio marketplace
console.

Add a new extension by clicking
+ New Extension

Select Visual Studio Code and upload your
.vsix
file and Publish.

Everything is done!✨

If you don't have an account on
marketplace.visualstudio.com
,
you can follow their official doc, here's the link: https://code.visualstudio.com/api/working-with-extensions/publishing-extension

If you are stuck anywhere in the process, do comment and
Like
the blog if you find it's helpful :)

Here is my VS Code theme Link : https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=GauravSinha.greencloud

Happy Theming!✨

In this blog post, I'm gonna tell you how you can make your own vs code theme extension according to your color preference in less than an hour.

 Prerequisites:

Know the color combination on your head you want!. 😉

Let's go!! 🚀

 First of all,

Open your vs code and then your terminal. Go to the path where you want to setup your code base by
cd [YOUR_PATH]
.

First things first you’ll need to have Node.js and Git installed in order to be able to install the necessary packages.

Open a Terminal and guide to the directory where you want to create your theme, and run the following command:

npm install -g yo generator-code

Using npm install yo (yes, that’s the real package name — short for Yeoman)

yo code

This will run the Visual Studio Code Extension (VSCE) generator.

To make a fresh color theme, you need to follow these steps by navigation using the up-and-down arrow keys and press enter to make a selection.

Select New Color Theme

Select No, start fresh

Enter the name of your extension

Enter your extension identifier (ex. of what an identifier is: [publisher-name or author], just press enter and use the default)

Write a short description of what the theme represents or what the idea behind the theme is.

Enter the name (case sensitive) as you want it to appear in the marketplace (This is the extension display name)

Select a base theme to be used as a starting point

You have successfully created a theme project! Now run the following commands to open it and to start working!

cd [theme-name] && code .

you have successfully completed the setup process 🎉

Now,

you will find a pre-built JSON file having different properties responsible for different coloring for vs code, all you need is to code that JSON file according to your choice.

... Wait,

It's so frustrating and time taking to browse all coloring properties in code and implementing the exact what's on Your Mind?

I have a Shortcut for that, you can skip all that lengthy steps, and make your Extension ready to launch within an hour 🚀

Here is How? :

Open your search engine and Go to or Click Theme Studio for VS Code

And Follow These Steps:

Create New Theme

Start Designing your own theme.

How to Export theme after you are done, publish it publicly and start using it in your VS Code
FOLLOW
my next Blog.😃
