35 ChatGPT Prompts That Make Job Hunting Way Less Painful

Job searching sucks. Writing CVs, cover letters, and follow-up emails takes forever. Preparing for interviews is stressful. And nobody teaches you how to negotiate salary.

I started using ChatGPT to speed things up, but quickly learned that vague prompts give useless results. "Write me a CV" gives you garbage. But a detailed, structured prompt? That gives you something you can actually use.

After weeks of refining, I put together 35 fill-in-the-blank prompts that cover the entire job search. Here are 3 of my favorites:

 1. Decode a Job Description

Here's a job description: ""

"[PASTE THE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION]"

Break it down for me:
1. What are the must-have skills vs nice-to-have?
2. What does the day-to-day work actually look like?
3. What level of seniority are they really looking for?
4. What red flags (if any) do you see?
5. What keywords should I use in my application?

This one is gold. You stop guessing what they want and start applying strategically.

 2. Tailor Your CV to a Specific Job

Here is my current CV:

"[PASTE YOUR FULL CV]"

Here is the job description I'm applying for:

"[PASTE THE JOB DESCRIPTION]"

Rewrite my CV to better match this specific job:
1. Reorder my experience to highlight what's most relevant
2. Use keywords from the job description naturally
3. Quantify achievements where possible (add numbers)
4. Remove or de-emphasize irrelevant experience
5. Keep it to [1 PAGE / 2 PAGES]

Don't lie or exaggerate — just reframe what I've already done.

Way better than sending the same generic CV everywhere.

 3. Predict Interview Questions

I have an interview for [JOB TITLE] at [COMPANY NAME].
The job description mentions: [KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS].
It's a [PHONE / VIDEO / IN-PERSON] interview with
[WHO: HR / hiring manager / team lead / panel].

Give me:
1. The 10 most likely questions they'll ask
2. For each question, a framework for a strong answer
3. The 1 question that will probably catch me off guard,
 and how to handle it

I used this before my last interview and 7 out of 10 predicted questions actually came up.

 The full guide

The complete pack has 35 prompts covering:

Research & preparation

CV / resume (tailoring, bullet points, ATS optimization)

Cover letters (including when you're underqualified)

Interview prep (STAR method, mock interviews, salary discussions)

LinkedIn (headlines, summaries, "open to work" posts)

Networking (cold emails, referrals, follow-ups)

Salary negotiation

Handling rejection

It's free to download — tips appreciated if you find it useful: https://khanhdev3.gumroad.com/l/yffoc

All prompts work with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot.
