HighLevel Voice AI vs Smith.ai vs Goodcall (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Choosing an AI receptionist usually comes down to three names: HighLevel Voice AI, Smith.ai's AI Receptionist, and Goodcall. They all answer the phone. They bill differently, escalate differently, and sit in very different software stacks.

This guide compares them side by side using each vendor's own pricing and product pages as checked on October 9, 2026. Where a number isn't published, we say "see vendor site" instead of guessing. We've tried to be fair about when Smith.ai or Goodcall is the better fit.

TL;DR: Three AI phone options for small service businesses, checked October 9, 2026. Smith.ai AI Receptionist starts at $0 for 25 calls a month (then $3 per call) or $150 for 75 calls on Pro, with optional live-agent escalation. Goodcall bills per unique customer from $79 a month (100 customers, then 79¢ each) with no per-minute charges. HighLevel Voice AI is usage-based (about $0.06 per minute before tokens and phone charges) or $50 / $97 per month on AI Employee plans, on top of a HighLevel plan from $97 a month, and it sits inside the same CRM that runs missed call text back. Pick Smith.ai for AI plus human backup, Goodcall for a predictable AI-only bill, and HighLevel when you also want CRM, texting, and calendars in one stack.

Quick comparison: HighLevel Voice AI vs Smith.ai vs Goodcall

Agencies and businesses that also want CRM + missed call text back

 Smith.ai AI Receptionist

Smith.ai publishes three AI Receptionist tiers. Prices are month-to-month; Smith.ai says canceling needs 30 days' notice.

Pro

$150

75 (or 150 / 300 at lower per-call rates)

$2.50 / $2.30 / $2.17

Enterprise

$500

300 (or 500 / 1000+)

$2.17 / $2.10 / custom

On Pro, Smith.ai lists included per-call rates of $2.00 / $1.80 / $1.67 for the 75 / 150 / 300 tiers. On Enterprise, $1.67 / $1.60 / custom for 300 / 500 / 1000+. Source: Smith.ai AI Receptionist pricing, checked October 9, 2026.

Live agent add-on: Smith.ai's help center says that when you configure live-agent involvement for verification or scheduling, each such call is billed at a flat +$3 on top of the base per-call rate (effective as of November 20, 2025 per Smith.ai). AI-initiated system escalations are listed as +$0. Confirm the current add-on rate in your Smith.ai account before you budget.

Smith.ai also sells separate live Virtual Receptionist plans (from $300/mo for 30 calls). Those are human-first products, not the AI Receptionist compared here. See Smith.ai Virtual Receptionist pricing and our Smith.ai alternatives page.

 Goodcall

Goodcall bills per AI agent and meters unique customers (one phone number that actually speaks to the agent in a given month). It says it does not charge for minutes, call counts, or AI tokens. A local number is included; you can forward your existing number.

 HighLevel Voice AI

HighLevel's Voice AI sits on top of a platform plan (Starter $97/mo, Unlimited $297/mo, Agency Pro $497/mo per HighLevel pricing). AI itself is billed three ways per enabled location (AI Product Pricing, checked October 9, 2026):

Pay-per-use

$0

Voice Engine $0.045/min + TTS (OpenAI/Cartesia $0.015/min, ElevenLabs V2.5 $0.035/min, ElevenLabs V3 $0.170/min) + LLM tokens

$50

100 AI Agent minutes/mo (inbound + outbound + widget combined), then pay-per-use

AI Employee Unlimited

$97

Unlimited Voice AI, subject to fair use

Approx. pay-per-use AI minute before tokens and phone: about $0.06/min with OpenAI or Cartesia TTS ($0.045 + $0.015). HighLevel's own 10-minute OpenAI TTS example comes to $0.60 before LLM tokens and Phone System charges.

Phone System charges are separate on every plan (US local number about $1.15/mo, inbound minutes around $0.01165/min per HighLevel's Phone System Pricing guide). Missed call text back and calendars are native.
GoHighLevel A2P 10DLC Registration: Steps + Costs (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

If you turn on missed call text back in HighLevel and your texts never arrive, the cause is often A2P 10DLC registration. US carriers require businesses to register before sending texts from standard 10-digit local numbers, and HighLevel's docs say a text-back can fail if no number in the account is eligible to send SMS (HighLevel: Missed Call Text Back).

This guide walks through the registration as HighLevel documents it in October 2026: which brand type to choose, what to prepare, the exact Trust Center steps, how to describe a text-back program so reviewers can verify it, what it costs, and why campaigns get rejected. It's based on HighLevel's help center, not on registrations we've run ourselves, and it isn't legal advice. Carriers and their registration partners make the final call.

TL;DR: To text US customers from a regular local number in HighLevel, including missed-call text-back, you must register an A2P 10DLC Brand (who is sending) and Campaign (what you send and how people opt in) under Settings, then Phone System, then Trust Center. Businesses with an EIN register a Standard Brand. Single-person businesses without a Tax ID use the Sole Proprietor path, which is limited to one number. As of October 2026, Low Volume registration is $22.50 one-time plus $1.50 to $10.50 a month per campaign, and the fees start when you submit, whatever the outcome. Most rejections come from mismatches between your legal name, website, sample messages, and opt-in flow. After approval, link each number to the campaign and confirm it shows "A2P Verified."

What is A2P 10DLC, and does missed-call text-back need it?

Yes. A2P 10DLC is the carrier registration system for business texts sent to US recipients from standard 10-digit local numbers, and HighLevel's own help article says it covers "appointment reminders, customer-care messages, account notifications, marketing messages, and other application-generated business communications" (HighLevel: What is A2P 10DLC). An automatic text-back sent by HighLevel is an application-to-person (A2P) message.

Registration has two parts:

Brand: who is sending. Your legal business identity.

Campaign: what you send, why, and how recipients agreed to get it.

You need both. HighLevel says brand approval alone doesn't let you send messages.

Toll-free numbers are different. They don't use A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration. They go through a separate toll-free verification process. Canadian numbers have their own rules depending on where you text and when the number was bought.

How do you register A2P 10DLC in HighLevel, step by step?

Register from Settings → Phone System → Trust Center in the sub-account that will send the texts. These are HighLevel's documented steps (What is A2P 10DLC; Campaign Registration guide):

Open Trust Center and click Start Registration under A2P Messaging (SMS).

Answer the Get Started questions: where the business is registered and whether it has a Tax ID. This picks the Standard or Sole Proprietor path.

Enter brand details exactly as they appear on official records, then the business address and an authorized representative.

Complete verification if prompted: either Persona identity verification or a one-time code sent to the brand email. You get three attempts and two resends for the email code.

Pick the messaging volume. Standard Brands choose Low Volume or High Volume. Sole Proprietors get single-number registration.

Choose Chat Widget Setup or Manual Setup. Chat Widget Setup is the default. It installs a HighLevel opt-in widget on your site and pre-fills the campaign description, sample messages, and opt-in text. Switch to Manual Setup if people opt in some other way, such as an existing website form, paper form, lead form, QR code, kiosk, or verbal consent.

Fill in the campaign: use case, website, description, sample messages, opt-in method and wording, and Privacy Policy and Terms links.

Click Review Application. HighLevel runs an AI compliance review. Fix anything it flags, click Review Again, and submit once every check passes.

Once a campaign is Pending, wait. HighLevel says not to create a second campaign just because the first is still under review.

How much does A2P registration cost in HighLevel?

As of October 2026, a Low Volume Standard registration costs $22.50 one-time plus $1.50 to $10.50 per month per campaign. Full table from HighLevel's Phone System Pricing & Billing Guide:

Type

Daily segment limit

Monthly campaign fee

One-time registration

Sole Proprietor

3,000 segments/day

Up to $2.10/campaign

$22.50 (includes $3 Fast Track)

Low Volume Standard

6,000 segments/day

$1.50 to $10.50/campaign

$22.50 (includes $3 Fast Track)

High Volume Standard

600,000 segments/day

$10.50/campaign

$64.00 (includes $3 Fast Track)

What to know about these fees:

They start when you submit, regardless of whether the campaign is approved. To stop the monthly fee, delete the campaign.

The $3 Fast Track fee is non-refundable.

Resubmissions are free for eligible rejected campaigns. HighLevel removed the previous $15 resubmission fee on February 1, 2026.

No HighLevel markup on A2P fees, per the campaign guide. But if your agency has rebilling turned on, HighLevel adds a fixed 5% to A2P and carrier fees at the sub-account level.

Texts themselves are billed separately, at $0.00747 per segment plus carrier fees.

Missed Call Text Back for Landscaping: 16 Scripts (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Landscapers answer the phone from a mower, a trailer hitch or a trench. Spring and fall calls stack up all at once, and a homeowner asking for a quote will message the next company on the list if they get silence.

This isn't legal advice: locate laws, licensing (for pesticide, irrigation or contractor work) and consent rules vary by state, so have the owner review every line.

TL;DR: A landscaper's missed-call text should name the company, say the crew is on a job site, and ask one sorting question: "Are you looking for regular lawn care or a one-time project?" Mowing and cleanup calls get a service-area and schedule question; installs that involve digging (trees, fences, irrigation, hardscape) get the 811 line: the contractor is normally responsible for requesting locates, and most states require waiting at least two business days (Pennsylvania three). In HighLevel, use the built-in text-back or a workflow that tags recurring-service and project replies and alerts the estimator. US texts cost under a penny per segment plus carrier fees and A2P registration.

What should a landscaper's missed call text back say?

It should name your company, show you saw the call, and ask one question that sorts it: "Are you looking for regular lawn care or a one-time project?" Keep it to one SMS segment (160 plain-text characters); keep the example texts below short enough to fit with a 23-character company name. Emojis and curly apostrophes switch the text to an encoding with only 70 characters per segment (HighLevel: How to Calculate SMS and MMS Costs). Replace anything in [brackets], and only promise reply times you can keep. To check a message after adding your name, use our free text message generator.

First texts (sent automatically after a missed call)

Crew on a job:
Hi, it's [Company]. Sorry we missed you, our crew is on a job. Want regular lawn care or a one-time project? Reply here and we'll help.

After hours:
[Company] here. We're closed now and open at [7am]. Reply with your address and what you need done, and we'll text you first thing.

Weekend or holiday:
Thanks for calling [Company]. We're closed today. Reply with your address and what you need done, and we'll text you [Monday] to set up a quote.

Busy season:
[Company] here. It's our busy season. Reply with your address and what you need, and we'll get you on the list in order.

How do you set up missed call text back for landscaping in HighLevel?

Start with the built-in feature for speed, then move to workflows when you want routing. The steps below follow HighLevel's help docs as of October 2026.

Option 1: built-in text-back (five minutes). In the sub-account, go to Settings → Phone System → Voice → Voicemail & Missed Call Text Back, open Missed Call Text Back, enable it, send your text-back message, send a test, and save. HighLevel says an incoming call timeout of 10 to 20 seconds is typically recommended (HighLevel: Missed Call Text Back). If the number called can't send SMS, HighLevel sends from another eligible number, so tell your team the text may come from a different number.

Option 2: workflows (more control). HighLevel recommends customizing its Missed Call Text Back recipe in Workflows to avoid duplicate texts. Three workflows cover most landscaping and lawn care companies:

Text-back: trigger on Call Details (incoming; no-answer, busy, or voicemail) → short wait → send your text-back message → tag the contact (Workflow Trigger: Call Details).

Existing customer vs. new lead: an If/Else step checks for a "regular customer" tag or an open opportunity in your job pipeline (Workflow Action: If/Else). Regular customers get your message; new callers get your message or, in busy season, 4.

Quote-request alert: trigger on Customer Replied, filter Reply Channel = SMS and the message containing "quote," "mow," "mulch," "install," "fence" or "patio", then send an internal notification to the owner or dispatcher with the message body (Workflow Trigger: Customer Replied). Test it with real spellings and typos.

If your scheduling or route software doesn't sync with HighLevel, keep the tags simple: add "regular customer" when a recurring route starts. Our GoHighLevel vs Jobber comparison covers how a CRM and a field service tool split the work. For the calls you can't text back fast enough, see our AI receptionist vs answering service comparison. To estimate what unanswered calls cost you, try the free missed call calculator.

How much does missed call text back cost a landscaping company in HighLevel?

Under a penny per text segment plus carrier fees, plus your number and A2P registration. From HighLevel's Phone System Pricing & Billing Guide (US, as of October 2026):

Item

Price (USD)

SMS, per segment

$0.00747 outbound and $0.00747 inbound, plus a carrier fee (about $0.0025 to $0.0100)

MMS (photos), per message

$0.0220 outbound; $0.0165 inbound on a local number, plus carrier fees

Local phone number

$1.15/month

A2P 10DLC registration (Low Volume)

$22.50 one-time + $1.50 to $10.50/month per campaign

Inbound replies are billed too, so a six-text back-and-forth costs roughly 6 to 11 cents, and photos add a few cents each.

Missed Call Text Back for Garage Door Repair: 16 Scripts (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

A garage door call is rarely casual. The door is stuck open overnight, stuck closed with the car inside, or came off its track with a bang. That caller will ring three companies in a row, and the one that replies first usually books the visit.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidance, and a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) setup that separates urgent stuck-door calls from routine estimates. This isn't legal advice: licensing and warranty rules vary by state, so have the owner review every line.

TL;DR: A garage door company's missed-call text should name the business, say the techs are on a job, and ask one sorting question: "Is the door stuck open, stuck closed, or off its track?" Because a stuck-open door is a security problem and a broken spring is a safety problem, the second text should add the CPSC-style line: do not try to repair or adjust springs, cables or brackets yourself, and keep people and cars clear of the door. Estimate and new-door calls get two time slots instead. In HighLevel, use the built-in text-back or a workflow that tags "stuck door" replies and alerts the dispatcher. US texts cost under a penny per segment plus carrier fees and A2P registration.

Busy season:
[Company] here. We're getting lots of calls this week. Reply with your address and what the door is doing, and we'll get you on the list.

Test it with real spellings and typos.

Run a HighLevel Affiliate Business With AI: Our Setup (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

We're building Peace Call in public, starting from zero. We use Grok Bot as our assistant. We mention it because it's the tool we actually use. Peace Call has no partnership with xAI or Grok and gets no endorsement from them, and we aren't paid to mention it. Other AI assistants can do similar work.

Nothing here is an income claim. Earnings depend on individual effort, and results vary.

TL;DR: Peace Call runs a HighLevel affiliate site with an AI assistant (Grok Bot) doing most daily work: drafting sourced articles, queuing social posts through official APIs, reading click and search data each morning, checking journalist requests, and preparing compliant outreach. A human still handles identity checks, payments and account signups. As of October 12, 2026 the site has had zero human affiliate clicks and zero sales, so this is a method, not a result. Free kit at /agency/.

What does the AI assistant do every day?

It runs a fixed morning routine and a weekly one.

Morning: reads paid-link click counts (by source), Search Console and Cloudflare traffic; checks journalist-request emails (HARO, Source of Sources, MentionMatch); publishes the next items in the Bluesky, Mastodon and Tumblr queues.

Weekly: drafts 2–4 new articles from sourced research, refills social queues, schedules the X batch, and writes a report with the real numbers.

Missed Call Text Back for Cleaning Services: 16 Scripts (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Cleaning crews can't answer a phone with a mop in one hand and a client's kitchen in front of them. The call that rings out is often a new customer comparing three companies and booking the first one that replies.

This isn't legal or medical advice: licensing, insurance and bonding rules vary by state, so have the owner review every line.

TL;DR: A cleaning company's missed-call text should name the company, say the team is out cleaning, and ask what kind of clean the caller needs and how big the home is, since that is what you need to quote. Recurring-clean customers should be tagged so they get a different text from new leads. Keep chemical advice to short, source-backed lines: never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners, and call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 (911 if the person has trouble breathing). In HighLevel, use the built-in text-back or a workflow that separates recurring clients from new quote requests. US texts cost under a penny per segment plus carrier fees and A2P registration.

What should a cleaning company's missed call text back say?

It should name your company, show you saw the call, and ask the two things you need for a quote: the type of clean and the size of the home. Keep it to one SMS segment (160 plain-text characters); each first text below fits with a 23-character company name.

Team out cleaning:
Hi, it's [Company]. Sorry we missed you, our team is out cleaning. What kind of clean do you need, and how many bedrooms? Reply and we'll quote.

After hours:
[Company] here. We're closed now and open at [8am]. Reply with the type of clean and your zip code, and we'll text you first thing.

Weekend:
Thanks for calling [Company]. We're closed today. Reply with what you need cleaned and your zip code, and we'll text you [Monday].

Move-out or deep clean:
[Company] here, sorry we missed you. Calling about a move-out or deep clean? Reply with the move date and home size and we'll check availability.

How do you set up missed call text back for cleaning in HighLevel?

Start with the built-in feature for speed, then move to workflows when you want leak routing.

Three workflows cover most cleaning companies:

Text-back: trigger on Call Details (incoming; no-answer, busy, or voicemail) → short wait → send your text-back message → tag the contact (Workflow Trigger: Call Details).

Recurring client vs. new lead: an If/Else step checks for a "recurring" tag or an open opportunity in your recurring-clients pipeline (Workflow Action: If/Else). Recurring clients get your message and an internal notification; new callers get your message.

Safety alert: trigger on Customer Replied, filter Reply Channel = SMS and the message containing "fumes," "swallowed," "allergic," "burning" or "breathe," then send an internal notification to the owner with the message body (Workflow Trigger: Customer Replied). Test it with real spellings and typos.

If your scheduling software (for example Jobber or Housecall Pro) doesn't sync with HighLevel, keep the tags simple: add "recurring" at signup and remove it at cancellation. Our GoHighLevel vs Jobber comparison covers how a CRM and a field service tool split the work. To estimate what unanswered calls cost you, try the free missed call calculator.

How much does missed call text back cost a cleaning company in HighLevel?

Inbound replies are billed too, so a six-text back-and-forth costs roughly 6 to 11 cents, and customer photos add a few cents each.

Missed Call Text Back for Roofers: 16 Scripts (2026)

Disclosure: Peace Call is a HighLevel (GoHighLevel) affiliate. If you sign up through our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

A roofer's phone rings hardest when the crew is least able to answer it: on a roof, in a lift, or during the first storm of the season. A homeowner with a stain spreading across the ceiling won't leave a long voicemail. They call the next name on the list.

This isn't legal or insurance advice: licensing, contract and insurance-claim rules vary by state, so have the owner review every line.

TL;DR: A roofer's missed-call text should name the company, say the crew is on a roof or in the field, and ask one sorting question: "Is water coming in right now, or do you need an estimate?" Active leaks get a short safety line (stay out of the attic and away from sagging ceilings, call 911 for anything dangerous) and a priority flag, while estimate requests get two time slots. After storms, homeowners are warned by the FTC about contractors who pressure them to sign immediately, demand cash up front or ask them to sign over insurance checks, so a trustworthy text offers a time, not a deadline, and says your license and insurance details are available on request. In HighLevel, use the built-in text-back or a workflow that tags leak calls and alerts the owner. US texts cost under a penny per segment plus carrier fees and A2P registration.

What should a roofer's missed call text back say?

It should name your company, show you saw the call, and ask one question that sorts it: "Is water coming in right now, or do you need an estimate?" Keep it to one SMS segment (160 plain-text characters); keep the example texts below short enough to fit with a 23-character company name.

Crew on a roof:
Hi, it's [Company]. Sorry we missed you, our crew is on a roof. Is water coming in now, or do you need an estimate? Reply here and we'll help.

After hours:
[Company] here. We're closed now and open at [7am]. Reply with your address and what's happening, and we'll text you first thing.

Weekend or holiday:
Thanks for calling [Company]. We're closed today. Reply with your address and what you're seeing, and we'll text you [Monday] to schedule.

After a storm:
[Company] here. We're getting a lot of calls after the storm. Reply with your address and what you see, and we'll get you on the list in order.

How do you set up missed call text back for roofing in HighLevel?

Start with the built-in feature for speed, then move to workflows when you want leak routing.

Three workflows cover most roofing companies:

Text-back: trigger on Call Details (incoming; no-answer, busy, or voicemail) → short wait → send your text-back message → tag the contact (Workflow Trigger: Call Details).

Existing customer vs. new lead: an If/Else step checks for a "past customer" tag or an open opportunity in your job pipeline (Workflow Action: If/Else). Past customers and new callers get different wording.

Leak alert: trigger on Customer Replied, filter Reply Channel = SMS and the message containing "leak," "water," "dripping," "ceiling," or "tree," then send an internal notification to the owner or dispatcher with the message body (Workflow Trigger: Customer Replied). Test it with real spellings and typos.

If your estimating or job software doesn't sync with HighLevel, keep the tags simple: add "past customer" when a job closes. Our GoHighLevel vs Jobber comparison covers how a CRM and a field service tool split the work. For the calls HighLevel can't text back fast enough in a storm, see the roofing AI receptionist guide. To estimate what unanswered calls cost you, try the free missed call calculator.

How much does missed call text back cost a roofer in HighLevel?

Under a penny per text segment plus carrier fees, plus your number and A2P registration. From HighLevel's Phone System Pricing & Billing Guide (US, as of October 2026):

Item

SMS, per segment

$0.00747 outbound and $0.00747 inbound, plus a carrier fee (about $0.0025 to $0.0100)

MMS (photos), per message

$0.0220 outbound; $0.0165 inbound on a local number, plus carrier fees

Local phone number

$1.15/month

$22.50 one-time + $1.50 to $10.50/month per campaign
