Three SEC filing feeds as structured data: Form D raises, 13F position changes, and 8-K material events

SEC EDGAR is free, public, and updated constantly. It is also a filing-by-filing interface: fine for looking up one company, slow for watching a whole category of filings every week.

I built three Apify Actors that turn three EDGAR feeds into clean, structured rows you can schedule, filter, and pipe into a spreadsheet or database. Disclosure: I built these, AI-assisted, and I sell runs of them on Apify. Each is priced at $0.003 per row returned.

 1. Form D: companies that just raised

A Form D is filed when a company sells securities in a private placement. It is one of the earliest public signals that a startup or fund just raised money, and EDGAR receives new ones every day.

The SEC Form D Filings Actor returns newly filed Form D placements with the amount, industry, state, and executives named in the filing.

Use it for: tracking newly funded companies in an industry or state, and building a weekly list of recent raises instead of searching EDGAR by hand.

Limits: a Form D reports a sale of securities. It does not tell you the valuation, the investors in every case, or whether the full amount was placed. Check the filing itself before acting on a row.

https://apify.com/groundplanes/sec-form-d-filings

 2. 13F: what large managers bought and sold

Institutional managers file Form 13F each quarter listing their US equity holdings. The raw filings show positions, not changes, so spotting what a manager actually did means diffing two quarters yourself.

The SEC 13F Holdings Changes Actor compares a manager's two latest 13F filings and returns every position change, labeled NEW, ADDED, TRIMMED, or SOLD_OUT, with shares, values, and portfolio weight.

Use it for: following position changes across a watch list of managers, and screening for new or exited positions each filing season.

Limits: 13F filings are quarterly and lag the trades, and they cover long equity positions only, not shorts or options in full. A change row is a filing record, not investment advice.

https://apify.com/groundplanes/sec-13f-holdings-changes

 3. 8-K: material events, filtered by item

A Form 8-K reports a material event at a public company: a bankruptcy, a cybersecurity incident, an impairment, a change of accountant, a change of executives. The events that matter to you are a small slice of the daily filing volume.

The SEC Form 8-K Material Event Radar reads the EDGAR daily index and returns 8-K filings with cleaned item text. You can filter by item code, date, ticker or CIK, and keyword. Item codes covered include 1.03 (bankruptcy), 1.05 (cybersecurity incidents), 2.06 (impairments), 4.01 (accountant changes), and 5.02 (executive changes).

Use it for: a daily or weekly digest of one event type across all filers, instead of reading every 8-K headline.

Limits: the Actor reports what the filing says. An item code tells you the category the company filed under; the cleaned text is where the substance is, and the source filing is the record to rely on.

https://apify.com/groundplanes/sec-edgar-8k-material-event-radar

 The pattern

All three follow the same rules I use for the rest of this catalog:

Public source data only, read from SEC EDGAR

Structured JSON out, with counts stated when a run hits a cap (a capped run says so, it does not silently truncate)

Schedulable, so a weekly check costs minutes instead of an afternoon

Status reporting that flags a partial result instead of calling it complete

If you watch any of these three feeds by hand today, one scheduled run is the cheapest test of whether automating it is worth it.

Found a problem or need a field? Open an issue on the Issues tab of the Actor page; we respond quickly.
