I Built a Spacebar Speed Test That Runs Entirely in Your Browser

I wanted a tiny game. Something anyone could open and play in ten seconds. No download. No account. No tutorial. Just a page, a timer, and one key. The spacebar.

That turned into Play Spacebar Clicker. You pick a timer, 5, 10, or 30 seconds, and press the spacebar as fast as you can until time runs out. Then you see two numbers. Your total taps. And your CPS, your clicks per second. That's the whole game. Nothing else. And honestly, that's why people come back to it.

 The math is one line

CPS sounds technical. It's not. It's just division. Count the taps, divide by the seconds.

const cps = taps / seconds;

Press 40 times in 5 seconds? That's 8 CPS. The tool also shows your live CPS while you play, plus your average and your best CPS when the timer ends. So you can see if you're speeding up or slowing down. Most people land between 5 and 8 CPS. Fast clickers hit 10 or more.

The spacebar fights back

The first problem wasn't the timer. It was the key itself. In a browser, the spacebar scrolls the page by default. So a spacebar game has to stop that first. If it doesn't, your first press scrolls the page instead of counting as a tap. Every spacebar game hits this. It's a small thing. But it's the kind of small thing that decides whether the game feels good or broken.

The second problem was rhythm. A steady pace beats a fast start. Every time. People who hammer the key for two seconds and then slow down score worse than people who keep one even speed for the whole timer. So the live CPS number matters more than the final one. It tells you, while you're still playing, when your pace drops.

No accounts, no server

No login. No email. Your scores stay in your browser. So you can try to beat your best next time without signing up for anything. On a phone there's no keyboard, so you tap the on-screen spacebar instead. Same game. Same timer. Same CPS.

That was the whole point. The game should work the moment the page opens. If it needs an account first, it's not a ten-second game anymore.

Try it

Want to see your CPS? You can try the free spacebar speed test and get your number in 10 seconds. And if you just want to count presses with no timer, the Spacebar Counter does that.
