Mosaic Shop Intelligence is an open-source (MIT) retail ERP for small shops. Instead of module lists and hundreds of switches, a short plain-language owner interview (Do you keep stock? Suppliers on credit? Which country and currency?) configures the working system, and the owner reviews it before Apply.

v2.1.2 is a fixes-and-fit release:

The full product: Today with pick-first next steps, Stock with a low-stock filter, Sales with date ranges, Money with a notes-and-coins till count, and Books with PDF/XLSX/CSV exports plus custom reports drafted from everyday words for owner review. The built-in deterministic chat is the default; you can connect your own AI provider through chat-guided setup. The fine-tuned local assistant, Jev by TypeSafe (Preview), runs on the shop's own machine, and every action requires the owner's explicit confirmation of the exact rendered payload. From a shop-owner interview to an ERP configuration

A software setup wizard often asks the wrong questions. "Enable inventory?" is hard to answer if the owner knows only that items sometimes run out between supplier deliveries. "Use accrual accounting?" is even further from how they describe a day at the shop.

A business interview starts with observable work instead:

What do people sell, and how are sales taken: counter, invoice, online, or all three?
How does stock arrive, and when does ownership change?
Can a customer pay later? Who may extend credit, and to what limit?
Who counts the cash and who may correct a sale or approve a refund?
Which reports help the owner catch problems tomorrow morning?

The answers can then become a reviewable configuration. If a shop sells stock from two locations, the system may propose two stores and transfer controls. If customers pay later, it may propose receivables, credit limits and an approval path. If a cashier handles sales but cannot issue large refunds, the role policy should make that split explicit.

The important word is propose. A good interview does not infer tax registration, statutory invoice details or approval limits from vague answers and quietly turn them on. It shows a plain-language summary of the resulting screens, roles, documents and reports, points to contradictions, and holds regulated or specialist choices for qualified review.

The test is not whether the interview feels short. It is whether a non-technical owner can say, "Yes, that is how we work," and then use the configured system for real transactions. A production ERP is not a plan or a diagram. It has to preserve those decisions in the screens and controls people actually use.

Mosaic Shop Intelligence is an open-source (MIT) retail ERP. The idea is simple: instead of a setup screen with hundreds of switches, the owner answers plain-language questions about how the shop works, and Mosaic configures the working system from those answers: stock, sales, buying, money and books.

v1.3.4 shipped today. It's a first-run release: everything in it is about what happens in the first ten minutes after someone installs Mosaic.

The bug that mattered most: Apply didn't always apply what you reviewed

After the interview, Mosaic shows the owner a review of the setup it's about to install. In earlier versions, pressing Apply could install a different profile from the one on screen. For a coaching or services business, that meant stock tracking and supplier credit could get switched on even though the owner said they didn't need them.

In v1.3.4, Apply installs exactly the profile you reviewed.

The first sale should just work

An ERP that's "configured" but can't post its first invoice isn't configured. Apply now creates the accounting defaults up front: accounts, document sequences, and your country's currency. Older workspaces that were missing them fix themselves the first time they're used.

Smaller fixes in the same release:

Settings is reachable from the workspace menu.
Malformed API requests get a clear 400 instead of a 500.
The Assistant (still a Preview) answers everyday questions like "Show me the tax settings" with the real answer or a link to the right screen.

A real Windows installer

Until now Windows users got a portable exe. v1.3.4 adds MosaicERP-windows-x64-setup.exe, which:

shows up in Settings > Apps as "Mosaic Shop Intelligence" (publisher Hearthplug), with Start Menu and desktop shortcuts
has an uninstaller that stops the running services and then asks whether to keep or delete your shop data

The portable exe is still there, and the Mac build (Apple Silicon dmg) ships from the same commit.

A note on signing: the installers are unsigned for now, so Windows SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC" (click More info, then Run anyway) and macOS wants a right-click > Open the first time.

Mosaic ERP v1.3.2 turns a plain-English owner interview into the working retail ERP.

Instead of asking an owner to pick technical modules, Mosaic asks how the business actually runs: products, locations, buying, receiving, stock, sales, returns, credit, staff responsibilities, reporting, terminology, currency, and branding. Those answers configure the running system itself.

The working system, not a planning artifact

The interview produces a reviewable configuration summary and opens the configured ERP. The Modern Ledger interface gives operators a direct path through Today, Stock, Sales, Buying, Money, Books, and Administration.

The retailer core covers:

purchasing and receiving
products, inventory, movements, counts, and locations
sales, payments, and returns
supplier bills and payments
cash and bank workflows
immutable double-entry journals
trial balance, profit and loss, and balance sheet
role- and location-scoped access with audit history

Built for local fit

Mosaic is not tied to one demo country or one retail vocabulary. During configuration, the owner sets the business currency, region, terminology, locations, operating model, and brand. The resulting workspace reflects those choices.

That is configurability, not a claim of automatic legal or tax compliance. Local requirements still need to be reviewed for the business and jurisdiction.

v1.3.2 adds direct desktop installers alongside the open-source, self-hosted deployment path.

Mosaic is MIT licensed. The source has no software licence fee; hosting, migration, operations, implementation, and professional review can still cost money.
