Unclaimed money is cash that a business or agency owes you but could not deliver. Think of an old paycheck, a forgotten deposit or a refund that never arrived. After a while, the holder turns it over to the state. An unclaimed money search checks those state lists for your name. The official search is free. Claiming your own money is free too.

What Is Unclaimed Money?

Unclaimed money is any money owed to you that you never collected. USA.gov defines it simply. If a business, bank or government owes you money you did not collect, "it is considered unclaimed money or property."

BeenVerified's unclaimed money guide agrees. "Usually when you hear the words 'free money,' more often than not, it's a scam. Unclaimed money, however, is legitimate, and some of it might be yours."

Where unclaimed money comes from

Most unclaimed money starts small. A check goes to an old address. An account sits idle for years. Common sources include:

Uncashed paychecks. Your last check from an old job.
Dormant bank accounts. Savings or checking you forgot about.
Security deposits. Money held by a landlord or a utility.
Refunds. Overpaid bills, insurance premiums or tax refunds.
Insurance payouts. Life insurance benefits nobody claimed.
Stocks and dividends. Shares or payouts from old investments.
Safe deposit boxes. Contents left behind after fees stopped.

BeenVerified lists a few more. These include pension payments, savings bonds, back wages, FHA insurance refunds and bank failure refunds.

Who holds unclaimed money?

States hold most of it. USA.gov says "state governments hold most unclaimed money." Laws in most states require banks and businesses to report dormant funds. They must then hand the money to the state. The state keeps it until the owner claims it.

Some unclaimed money never reaches the state. Federal agencies hold certain refunds, pensions and wages. Courts hold some funds too. That is why one search is rarely enough.

How much unclaimed money is out there?

Billions of dollars. BeenVerified gives two figures on two pages. Its unclaimed money page says agencies and businesses hold "nearly $60 billion in unclaimed cash." Its Is BeenVerified legit? page cites "as much as $70 billion in unclaimed money being held by state governments." Either way, the total is large. Much of it belongs to people who don't know it exists.

How to Do an Unclaimed Money Search With BeenVerified

The BeenVerified unclaimed money search lives on its homepage. It sits under the Money tab. The headline above the box asks, "Are you owed unclaimed money?"

Step 1: Open the Money tab

Go to beenverified.com. Click the Money tab in the search box. You can also start from its dedicated unclaimed money guide. It has its own tab row: Unclaimed Money, People Search, Reverse Phone Lookup, Address Lookup and Reverse Email Lookup.

Step 2: Enter a first name and a last name

Type the first name and the last name. Use the name on your old accounts. A maiden name or a former name may hold money too. Search each one separately.

Step 3: Pick a state

Choose a state from the list. "All" is the default. Pick a state you once called home. State unclaimed money stays with the state that received it. So the right state matters. To find unclaimed money by state, repeat it for every past state.

Step 4: Run the search

Click Search to start the BeenVerified unclaimed money search. The page hint says it will "search for potential unclaimed assets." BeenVerified explains that its search "combs publicly available databases to locate assets and accounts held in the name of its users."

Step 5: Read the BeenVerified unclaimed money search results

Review each match. Check the name, the city and the holder. Then follow the claim steps for that holder. BeenVerified does not pay out the money itself. The state or agency does.

What the Search Results Show

BeenVerified says it "can help locate the contact information for the appropriate agencies, so that you may file a claim." In other words, the results point you to the holder. You still file the claim with that holder.

BeenVerified unclaimed money search results can help in three ways:

Who holds it. The agency or state that has the money.
Where to file. Contact details for the right office.
What to expect. Some claims pay out "in as little as two weeks," BeenVerified says, "although some claims may take longer."

The BeenVerified unclaimed money search costs nothing extra for members. BeenVerified states that "it costs you nothing additional to search for missing money." That "additional" matters. You still need a membership or a trial to use BeenVerified reports. In October 2026, BeenVerified pricing listed $36.89 per month for one month. It listed $23.98 per month for the 3 month plan.

BeenVerified unclaimed money results vs official records

The official state record is the final word. BeenVerified gathers public data. Its site footer says reports are "not necessarily 100% accurate, complete or up to date." Always confirm a match on the state's own site before you file. That check is free.

Free Ways to Find Unclaimed Money

You never have to pay to find unclaimed money. Every state unclaimed money search run by a state is free. Here is where to look first.

Unclaimed.org: all states in one place

The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators runs Unclaimed.org. Its homepage says it plainly: "Search for your unclaimed property (it's free)." The site links to each state's official program. Start with your current state. Then search every state where you have lived.

BeenVerified suggests the same first move. Begin with "your current state of residence," it says, then past states.

MissingMoney.com: a multi-state search

MissingMoney.com is a free multi-state search. Unclaimed.org says "most states participate in MissingMoney.com—a free website, managed by NAUPA." One search there covers many participating states at once. Some states do not take part. Check state unclaimed money in those states through Unclaimed.org.

Your state treasurer or comptroller

Each state has an unclaimed property office. It usually sits under the state treasurer or the comptroller. The state's own unclaimed money search is the official record. Claims are filed there too.

Find unclaimed money by state

State unclaimed money is held by whichever state collected it. Make a list before you start. Write down each place you lived, banked or owned property. Federal Sources of Unclaimed Money

Some money never reaches a state. USA.gov is clear: "There is no single place to look for all unclaimed money." Use these federal tools for each type.

Tax refunds

The IRS holds refunds that could not be delivered. Check the status of a federal refund on the IRS refunds page. For state tax refunds, contact your state tax agency.

Pensions

The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation holds pensions from ended plans. Use the PBGC unclaimed pension search to look for your name.

Savings bonds

The old Treasury Hunt tool is gone. TreasuryDirect says "as of September 30, 2025, the Treasury Hunt® tool is no longer available." If you think you own a lost bond, use the lost, stolen or destroyed bond process.

Back wages

The Department of Labor collects unpaid wages after labor violations. It holds them while it looks for workers. "After three years," the Workers Owed Wages tool explains, the money goes to the U.S. Treasury. Search the database if you worked for an employer that settled a case.

FHA mortgage insurance refunds

Did you have a mortgage insured by the Federal Housing Administration? You may be owed a refund. HUD's FHA refund search says, "If you had an FHA-insured mortgage, you may be eligible for a refund."

Failed bank deposits

When a bank fails, the FDIC pays insured deposits. Unclaimed funds can stay with the FDIC. Search the FDIC unclaimed funds tool for your name or the bank.

Veterans life insurance

The VA keeps a search for unclaimed insurance funds. Use it if a veteran in your family held a VA policy.

Federal court funds

Courts sometimes hold money from cases and bankruptcies. Search the federal courts' unclaimed funds locator.

Search Unclaimed Money by Name: Getting the Matches Right

Most tools search unclaimed money by name. That makes the name you type the key to the whole search.

Holders report the name they had on file. That may not match the name you use today. A bank may list "J. Smith." A utility may list "Jane A. Smith." An employer may list a misspelling. So search unclaimed money by name in several forms.

Try these name forms, one at a time:

Full legal name. Your name exactly as on your ID.
First initial and last name. It catches records with short forms.
Former names. Maiden names and names before a legal change.
Common misspellings. Swapped letters or missing letters.

What you may need

Expect to prove who you are. Common documents include:

Photo ID. A driver's license or passport.
Proof of address. A bill or a letter showing your old address.
Your Social Security number. Many states ask for it on the form.
Account proof. A statement, policy number or check stub, if you have one.

Claiming for a relative who died

Heirs can claim too. USA.gov says you may file for money "owed to a deceased relative if you are their legal heir." BeenVerified adds the paperwork. You'll need "a certified copy of the death certificate and will, if there is one, or other estate documentation." Without a will, states may ask for "affidavits and letters of administration."

How long it takes

It varies by state and by amount. BeenVerified says some claims pay in about two weeks. Larger or complex claims take longer. Keep copies of everything you send.

Is there a deadline?

Usually not a strict one. BeenVerified says you "don't necessarily forfeit your right to collect it even 20 years later (depending upon the jurisdiction and applicable escheat laws)." Check your state's rules to be sure.

Unclaimed Money Finder Services

Some firms offer to recover money for you. People often call them an unclaimed money finder or heir finder. They contact owners and offer help in exchange for a share of the payout.

Before you sign with an unclaimed money finder, remember one fact. You can search state lists yourself at no cost. Your own claim costs nothing as well. An unclaimed money finder may still help with a complex estate claim. Read the contract and know the fee first.

Watch for fake finders as well. A real unclaimed money finder never needs your bank password or card number. A real state office never charges a search fee. If an unclaimed money finder asks for payment upfront, walk away.

Unclaimed Money Scams

Scammers love unclaimed money. The topic sounds official, and people want to believe it. BeenVerified quotes the Better Business Bureau on this.

Fraudsters send "an email or postcard" about money waiting for you, BeenVerified writes. They ask for personal details "to confirm your identity." Then they ask for a card number "to cover postage and administrative fees." The result is identity theft or fraudulent charges.

Red flags in an unclaimed money message

They found you first. States rarely cold-call people about unclaimed money.
They want a fee. Official searches and claims are free.
They want card or bank details. No state needs them to show you a match.
They rush you. Fake deadlines are a classic pressure tactic.
The sender looks off. A free webmail address or an odd domain is a warning.

"Legitimate organizations will never contact you in this way about unclaimed money," BeenVerified says, citing the BBB. "You should never pay a fee to collect unclaimed accounts."

Check the sender before you reply

Got an email claiming there is unclaimed money in my name, or yours? Check the sender first. Look at the domain after the @ sign. A real state office uses its own government domain.

Search name variants. "Robert," "Rob" and "Bob" may each hold a record.
Use short forms. Search "Smith" with a first initial if full names fail.
Try business names. A small business you ran may have unclaimed funds.
Search deceased relatives. Heirs can claim what a parent left behind.
Check all past states. Money follows the holder's state, not yours.
Re-run each year. Holders report new unclaimed money all the time.

Limits and Legal Use

An unclaimed money search is a personal tool. Use it for yourself, your family or an estate you manage. BeenVerified is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Its FCRA notice bans using its data for jobs, housing, credit or insurance decisions.

The O2 mail login sits at mail.o2online.de. You type your name and your password into O2 Webmail and press "Anmelden". If the password is gone, a reset link starts the recovery.

This guide lists each login we could open and the current state of the service. It covers the password reset, mail program settings and login errors. The O2 Webmail sign-in at mail.o2online.de asks for "E-Mail" and "Passwort" and offers a "Passwort vergessen?" link.
O2 staff member o2_Emanuel writes on the help site that the service is only available with contracts concluded before 13 December 2012.
O2's service page says the domains alice-dsl.net, alice-dsl.de and alice.de were switched off on 15 January 2023, while each mailbox stays reachable under its @o2mail.de name.

Is the Service Still Running?

We found no notice that O2 closed the service. O2 Webmail still loads, and O2 still publishes server settings, last updated in October 2024.

The offer is old and small. Each account was tied to the original contract. O2 email accounts under the names Alice, loop, o2mail and o2online all came from earlier providers that O2 took over.

The pinned post's author adds a personal view. Keep a backup of your mail, and pick a provider whose core business is email for anything important.

Every O2 Webmail Login Address

Several hosts lead to the login or to the admin panel. The table lists what we opened.

The two panels look identical, says the pinned post, yet each works only with matching accounts. Older community replies also mention gomail.o2online.de for mobile contracts. We opened it from outside Germany, and it answered "Not Authorized to View This Page".

The O2 Webmail Login Page

The form is plain. It has the title "Webmail", a box for "E-Mail", a box for "Passwort" and a blue button. Under the button sits the reset link. A language menu and the links "Impressum" and "Datenschutz" finish it.

Which Name to Type

The server settings page explains the name. For an @o2online.de mailbox, it is the contract's phone number. Some landline contracts use a self-chosen name. A typical entry reads 01761234567@o2online.de, and @o2mail.de works alike.

So your O2 email login is the full name with its ending, paired with the mailbox password. Webmail can also reveal your settings.

Alice Mail Login After the Switch

The service page "Abschaltung der Alice E-Mail-Domains" explains the Alice change. Senders can no longer reach an Alice alias. For the Alice mail login, use the @o2mail.de name instead. The password did not change.

O2 asks Alice users to do four things:

Open the Webmail settings and switch sender and reply name to the @o2mail.de one.
Tell your contacts, for example with an automatic reply.
Update every online account that still uses the old one.
Change the entry in Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Mail, and in your password manager.

In September 2025, an O2 moderator wrote that sign-in limits for @alice-dsl.net, @alice.de and @hanse.net were fixed. Owners of @genion.de and @loop.de can try the @o2online.de ending, the moderator added. That tip helps when an old ending refuses your password.

O2 Mail Sign Up

We found no registration page for new accounts, on o2online.de or in the community. The cutoff above explains why. A newer contract does not come with an O2 email box.

Password Reset for O2 Mail

The reset starts on the login form, one click away.

In O2 Webmail, choose "Passwort vergessen?".
Under "Schritt 1: Kontoanmeldung", enter your full name.
Type the characters shown in the picture. An "Audio" button reads them out.
Click "Weiter". "Abbrechen" takes you back.

The admin panel has its own reset link. We followed it from admin.o2mail.de, and it opened the same form on webmail.o2mail.de.

Set Up Recovery First

Each address needs its own security question. You store it in Webmail, and only then does the reset work. Without one, the pinned post points you to the hotline.

The same post says the panel can show the passwords of single accounts. That is a second way back, if the panel still opens.

If Nothing Is Stored

Then the service team takes over. The hotline is 089 78 79 79 40 0, open Monday to Friday 7 to 20 hours and Saturday 10 to 18 hours on working days. Calls follow your plan's rates.

In one help thread, a moderator wrote that the specialist department had mailed a letter with a new password. Keep your postal details current in your customer account, or the letter goes astray.

Choose a Safe New Password

Server setups differ, so stay with ASCII characters. Umlauts can cause trouble in passwords and in names, the post warns.

Mail Programs and Server Settings

O2 recommends IMAP for any program, because it keeps mail on the server. You can, for instance, move spam without downloading it. The program must support SMTP authentication. Switch on "Server erfordert Authentifizierung".

The username is the full name, such as your number plus @o2online.de or @o2mail.de.

The page also lists plain ports for POP3 (110) and SMTP (25 or 1025). Choose the encrypted ports where you can.

A client may still show Alice server names after the change. O2 says it must be updated to mail.o2mail.de.

When the Login Fails

Helpers on the community site ask the same questions first. They narrow the cause quickly:

When did you last sign in? Some accounts run on, but none is safe.
Does the original contract exist, and is it DSL, mobile or prepaid?
Can you reach the admin panel for your contract type?
Does the Webmail login open?
Does a program fail, or only the browser? If the Webmail login works, the account is fine and the program is at fault.

Check the Ending

Some endings had trouble in 2025. If an old ending fails, try @o2mail.de or @o2online.de with the same password. Moderators named that route in the help threads.

O2 offers hotlines, a live chat, a contact form, a WhatsApp service and the O2 Community. Moderators can file fault reports, adds the pinned post, and both routes need patience.

Emailing O2 Mail Users? Verify Before You Send

Not everyone reading this guide owns an O2 email inbox. Some of you send to people who do. These accounts belong to old contracts, so a list with @o2mail.de, @o2online.de or Alice entries can hold dead ones.

The Alice case is documented. A moderator post says mail to those addresses is no longer delivered, and senders learn that the mailbox does not exist. Each one ends up as a bounce in your report.

What is the O2 mail login page for?

It takes a name and its password, and lives under the host name mail.o2online.de. The same account also works in mail programs.

Can I still open a new O2 email address?

New accounts are not offered, as far as O2's pages show. We found no sign-up page, and O2 ties the service to old contracts. Customers with newer contracts need another provider.

Which username does O2 mail use?

For an @o2online.de account, O2 names the contract's number. Programs want the full name, and the web form asks for it in the first box.

What if I forgot my O2 mail password?

Click "Passwort vergessen?" and follow the steps, which need a stored security question. Without one, the hotline must help, and a new password may come by letter.

Do Alice email addresses still work?

Alice addresses stopped working in January 2023, because O2 switched off those domains. The mailbox lives on under its @o2mail.de name with the same password. Sign in with that name.

Does O2 delete an unused account?

According to mailbox.org's guide on apps, the service has no dedicated store app and offers an installable web version.
Per mailbox.org's setup guide, the mailbox.org IMAP server is imap.mailbox.org on port 993 with SSL/TLS.
Per mailbox.org's pricing, the paid private plans start at 4 € a month when billed monthly, and Light is sold with annual payment only.
According to mailbox.org, a reset only works if you saved a mobile number, an alternative address or a phone password before.

The main site also shows a "Login" link at the top. It leads to the same form.

The Form Itself

The mailbox.org login asks for the "E-mail address" first. Under the field, the service adds: "Please enter the full email address of your user account."

Press "Continue" to move on. Below the button sits "Forgot password?", which opens the reset form.

Always Use the Primary Address

The page insists on a single rule. If you turned an alias into the main login, that alias is now your login name, and the former stops working. The rule covers the user forum and every other part of the provider.

Messages You May See

The form's own text lists four messages:

"Login failed", with a hint to check your entries and whether you used the full email
"Currently the login is not possible. Please try again later."
"Access from this network is not allowed"
"Login disabled for 60 seconds"

The last message is a short pause after wrong entries. Wait a minute, then try the mailbox.org login again.

mailbox.org App: The Web Version on Your Phone

There is no dedicated mailbox.org app. The provider's guide says so and offers a Progressive Web App instead. It has its own icon and opens in its own window. Think of it as the mailbox.org app for people who skip the store.

Android

Visit the site in Chrome or another Chromium browser and log in.
Tap the three-dot menu at the top right.
Choose "Install app", or the shortcut entry some browsers show instead, then confirm.

Firefox for Android works too. Open its menu, tap "Install" and pick where the icon goes.

iPhone and iPad

Open the site in Safari and log in.
Tap the Share icon in the bottom bar.
Choose "Add to home screen", label it and tap "Add". The mailbox.org app icon then sits among your other apps.

The guide warns that iOS supports push notifications for such apps only to a limited extent.

A Normal Mail App Works Too

You can read mail in the programs that came with your phone. The service has setup guides for Thunderbird on Android, the iOS Mail app and the macOS Mail app. It also covers Exchange ActiveSync on Android and iOS. The next section gives the server names.

mailbox.org IMAP and SMTP Settings

Most modern programs find the settings alone from your login details. If yours does not, type the values in by hand.

The service calls POP3 an older, simple protocol. It fetches the inbox only and knows no folders. For folders or several devices, the service strongly recommends IMAP, so enter the mailbox.org IMAP server first. Both server types are secured with SSL/TLS.

Port 465 uses SSL/TLS, and the alternative port 587 uses STARTTLS. Use your full login as the username. Your normal login works unless the second factor below is on, which calls for an app password. For background on this kind of software, read what an email client is in our glossary.

For browsers the list names Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, and recommends Firefox.

If a Program Cannot Connect

Two causes come up most. Some Telekom routers block standard ports through a "Secure Mail Servers" function that does not list mailbox.org SMTP. Some security suites scan mail and close ports, and the only fix on offer is to turn the scan off.

The firewall is a third cause. After many failed connections, it can block a connection for about 15 minutes. Programs that guess server names by themselves can set it off. Type the mailbox.org SMTP and IMAP server names by hand instead.

Two-Factor Sign-In

The service offers a time-based code from an authenticator app (TOTP). It also offers an OTP method that it calls Login 2.0.

Turn On TOTP

Click the gear icon and open All settings, Security, Two-factor authentication.
Enter a device name.
Scan the QR code with your authenticator app.
Type the six-digit code and click "Check code and activate TOTP".

Google Authenticator, Bitwarden and FreeOTP serve as examples. From then on, the mailbox.org login needs the current code too.

What Changes Afterwards

Mail programs, calendar apps and sync tools can no longer use your normal login. Create a separate app password for each of them in the settings. The page shows it once, so copy it right away. Mail clients can also get a key limited to IMAP, SMTP or both.

Two warnings apply. Lose your authenticator, and only the administrator can reset your password. Any reset also switches the second factor off, so set it up again.

Sign Up for a mailbox.org Email Account

New accounts start on the price page. Pick a private plan and press "Try it for free". The form opens under the heading "Choose your preferred address".

It has two steps, "Set up account" and "Open account". We only looked at the first. It asks for the part before @mailbox.org and a matching entry typed twice.

Private Plans and Prices

Every new customer gets a trial of 30 days at no cost. After that you pay ahead, and the credit you load sets how long the plan runs. The price page lists these plans in euros including VAT, as of October 2026:

Light has 3 aliases and limited support, which covers contract, credit and recovery questions. Each mailbox.org email carries the @mailbox.org ending. Standard and Premium both have 25 aliases and allow custom domain names. Business plans carry other prices on the same page.

Limits During the Trial

To stop abuse, mailbox.org restricts unpaid test accounts:

up to 10 emails per day, sent only to other mailbox.org users
restricted receipt from some outside senders, such as social media, payment services and verification codes
100 MB of mail storage and 10 MB of cloud storage

A payment lifts every limit. A trial account is deleted after 30 days if nothing was paid, with no cancellation needed.

Save Recovery Details Now

After sign up, a "Secure login" box offers to store a mobile number or an alternative address. Do it at once, because the recovery below depends on it.

Forgot Your mailbox.org Password?

Press "Forgot password?" on the form or open the recovery page, titled "Request a password reset". It runs in three steps: enter the email, reset, set the replacement.

Check Three Things First

The page lists them before you start:

Type the primary address in full, such as name@mailbox.org.
After an alias swap, use the new address.
With one-time sign-in, the first factor is not the usual login but the PIN chosen during setup.

The Reset Steps

Enter your login email and click Continue.
Pick a method from those you stored: an SMS code, a mailed code, or the phone password.
Enter the code, type a replacement and click Send.

The phone route shows a number to call on weekdays from 9:00 to 18:00. You confirm it there and pick a fresh login afterwards. The guide adds that this number offers no other support.

No Stored Details, No Reset

The service holds no personal data about you beyond what you enter. It cannot tell a real name from a pseudonym. Without stored recovery details, it cannot confirm who you are, and the guide marks this as a danger.

Add the details later through the gear icon, All settings, Security, Login recovery. Allowed characters are letters, digits and these symbols: ! $ " % & / ( ) = * + - # . , ; : @ ? [ ].

When the mailbox.org Login Fails

The guide lists seven checks. Test after each step.

Look for an outage on the form or in the user forum.
Reload the page or restart the browser.
Clear cache and cookies.
Open a private window.
Try another browser.
Try another device.
Try another internet connection.

A common error hits trial users who send outside the service: "554 5.7.1 Relay access denied". Trial accounts cannot send to outside recipients, and a payment ends that.

Cancel an Account

Most accounts end by themselves. The contract lasts as long as your credit, and it stops when you do not renew. To cancel earlier, use the form under All settings, Contract and payment, Contract. There is no refund for the unused term.

If you only want a new primary address, add an alias and promote it. After a cancellation, the mailbox name and its aliases stay blocked for 90 days at the very least.

Emailing mailbox.org Users? Verify Before You Send

A single mailbox can hold several aliases, so two entries may reach the same person. A new trial account also refuses some mail from outside senders.

What does a mailbox.org email look like?

A mailbox.org email ends in @mailbox.org, and the provider runs the website of the same name. Its own pages now call the service just "mailbox". Your login name is the whole address before and after the @.

Does a mailbox.org email cost anything?

The service is paid after a trial. The trial runs 30 days, opens all features and limits sending and storage. Afterwards Light is the cheapest option, with annual payment.

Is there a mailbox.org app for Android and iPhone?

mailbox.org has no native store app. You add the web version through the browser menu, on Android or iOS. Another route is a mail program on IMAP, such as Thunderbird.

mailbox.org cannot do a reset when no recovery details were stored. It cannot confirm who owns the account otherwise. Saved details can be an SMS number, a second email or a telephone password.

How long is a deleted address blocked?

A cancelled account leaves its address and aliases locked for a period of 90 days or more. The exact period depends on the plan and the age of the account. Until then, nobody can log in with those names.

The IONOS webmail login sits at mail.ionos.de, and the same page serves as the IONOS mail login for IONOS mailboxes. A 1&1 mail login for a DSL or mobile contract starts at www.1und1.de/login. Which page you need depends on where the mailbox was created.

This guide lists every login we could open and what each one asks for. It then covers sign up, resets and mail programs. Every fact comes from IONOS and 1&1 help pages and from the login pages themselves, read in October 2026. We did not register or sign in, and we are not affiliated with IONOS or 1&1. Which Login Belongs to Which Mailbox

Two companies are involved. The company history page explains how. 1&1 Internet merged with ProfitBricks in 2018 and became 1&1 IONOS. In September 2019 the name changed again. IONOS describes the new brand as the one for domain, email and website. The page adds that the other group companies, with their DSL, mobile and fibre offers, were not affected.

That split shows up in the logins. IONOS's help gives a rule of thumb. Telecom products, and the addresses tied to them, live in the 1&1 account. IONOS addresses live in the IONOS account and open in IONOS webmail.

The help pages do not publish a list of address endings. For IONOS the ending is the domain you own, such as mustermann@example.com. In the Control-Center you pick a domain while creating an address, and the name before the @ may have up to 30 characters.

The Old Webmailer Address

Many bookmarks still point to webmailer.1und1.de. The page has two notices. The first says you now find the Webmailer at www.1und1.de/login. The second says IONOS customers find their webmailer at mail.ionos.de. Both suggest saving the new page as a bookmark.

Other IONOS Logins

The IONOS login page also links to Mein Konto, HiDrive and E-Mail-Archiv. HiDrive is online storage at hidrive.ionos.com. The Data Center Designer for IONOS Cloud sits at dcd.ionos.com. None of these opens a mailbox.

1&1 Mail Login at www.1und1.de/login

The Kunden-Login page shows three cards. They are the Control-Center, the Webmailer and the Cloud-Speicher. The Webmailer card leads to 1&1 webmail. Each card has a yellow "Zum Login" button. The Control-Center card also links to "Hilfe zum Login" and "Zugang anlegen", and to the app in the App Store and Google Play.

Open the Webmailer

The Webmailer button opens a page titled "Login 1&1 Webmailer". It has two fields and a Login button.

Open www.1und1.de/login.
Press "Zum Login" under Webmailer.
Type your full email.
Type the one you set in the Control-Center.

1&1 webmail shows your mail, calendar and address book in the browser, the guide says. A message can go to at most 200 recipients, CC and BCC included.

The Control-Center

The Control-Center is the customer area. The Control-Center asks for a username and the customer password. The username is either the customer number or an email. You find the number on an invoice, an order confirmation or a bank statement.

The help adds a warning. Logging in with a domain name no longer works for DSL or mobile contracts. If you own a domain at 1&1, use login.ionos.de for it.

IONOS Webmail Login at mail.ionos.de

The IONOS webmail login redirects to id.ionos.de, where the page is titled "Webmail Login". The form is called "Mein Webmail Login". It asks for your email first. The Weiter button then moves you on.

The IONOS mail login needs the full email, domain included, and the matching password.

What IONOS Webmail Needs

IONOS webmail 2.0 is meant for hosting customers with an IONOS email, says IONOS's requirements page. It comes with web hosting packages, eShop contracts, server contracts and MyWebsite contracts.

IONOS lists these browsers:

Google Chrome, the current and the previous version
Mozilla Firefox, the current ESR version and the one before
Microsoft Edge (Chromium), the current version
Apple Safari 17.x
Android 10 or newer with the current Chrome
iPhone and iPad with Safari 17.x or newer

Other browsers may work, but IONOS does not support them.

Signing In on Someone Else's Device

IONOS recommends two habits when you open IONOS webmail on a shared computer. Log out before you leave the device, and open a private window. The form itself carries the same hint: "Nicht Ihr Gerät? Melden Sie sich nach der Sitzung ab oder verwenden Sie den privaten Browsermodus."

Two-Step Confirmation

IONOS offers a second step for IONOS webmail. After the first step, IONOS webmail asks for a six-digit code from an authenticator app. IONOS names FreeOTP and Google Authenticator.

You switch it on inside IONOS webmail. Click your initials at the top right, choose "Login & Sicherheit" and then "Bestätigung in zwei Schritten einrichten". IONOS asks you to write down the 16-digit recovery code.

Once the second step is on, Apple Mail, Outlook and Thunderbird no longer accept the regular one. You create an app password in the same area and enter it in the program.

IONOS Account Login at login.ionos.de

The account login is a different door from IONOS webmail. It is not the IONOS mail login. The IONOS account holds your contracts, domains, hosting and email. IONOS says you can sign in with your customer number, the contact email on file, or one of your domains.

If the second step is off, IONOS may email a six-digit code to the contact address. The code is valid for 20 minutes. After that you start a new attempt.

IONOS's help separates two logins. One belongs to the account. Another belongs to each mailbox. Check which one the page asks for.

Create a Mailbox at IONOS or in the Control-Center

Both kinds of mailbox are created in the customer account, not on a webmail page.

Activate the Control-Center

New customers get an email with an activation link, which stays valid for a few days. The steps are:

Open the link and choose between customer number and email as your username.
Press "Code anfordern". A verification code arrives by SMS.
Type the code, choose a new password and press Speichern.

Existing customers start from the login page instead. They press "Kein Zugang? Jetzt registrieren", enter the number and ask for a registration email.

Add an Address in the Control-Center

Open Vertrag, then "E-Mail-Adressen verwalten". Type the name for the new mailbox and choose a domain. Press "Jetzt einrichten". Then choose how it works.

The help describes two uses. A mailbox keeps incoming mail, and you read it in the Webmailer or a mail program. A forwarding address passes mail to up to three other recipients.

Add a Mailbox at IONOS

IONOS's guide covers the Basic and Business packages. The package needs at least one finished domain. Then:

Log in at login.ionos.de.
Open Menü, then E-Mail.
Click "Neue E-Mail-Adresse anlegen" and choose a product, for example Mail Basic.
Type the part before the @, choose the domain and set a password.
Click Speichern. The mailbox is ready after a few minutes.

If the domain uses an external mail server, such as Microsoft 365, creating the mailbox there fails.

IONOS Mailbox Packages

IONOS's page for its own email domain showed these packages:

The page says each package can be cancelled monthly and includes a free domain. It also offers a 30-day trial. The Control-Center pages show no price for the mailbox side.

Forgot Your Password? Where to Reset It

The right reset depends on which login you lost. None of these resets happens on the login form.

Forgot a Control-Center Mailbox Password

The guide says to set the mailbox password in the Control-Center. Log in there, open your contract and use the button for managing addresses.

If you cannot enter the Control-Center, press "Passwort vergessen" on its login page. Enter the number. You then get the delivery methods your account allows: an SMS link, an email link or a letter.

Forgot an IONOS Mailbox Password

IONOS cannot send a mailbox password, old or new. The contract holder assigns a fresh one through the account that holds the mailbox.

Sign in to the account at login.ionos.de.
Click the E-Mail tile.
Click the three dots beside the address.
Choose "Passwort ändern", type the new one and confirm.

The change is active within a few minutes. A forwarding address has none. Check the forwarding target instead.

Forgot the IONOS Account Password

Open passwort.ionos.de and enter your customer number or one of your registered domains. With a stored mobile number you can pick an activation email or an SMS code. Without one, IONOS sends an activation email with a link named "Neues Passwort erstellen". The link works for four hours.

Change a Login You Still Remember

If you still remember the login, open the initials menu in IONOS webmail. The same Login & Sicherheit area has a "Passwort ändern" page. Confirm the new one there, then update every mail program and every phone.

Mail Programs and Phone Apps

You can read both kinds in a mail program instead of IONOS webmail or the Webmailer. The username is the full email in both cases.

Both companies recommend IMAP. The guide asks you to switch on SMTP authentication for the outgoing server.

The Mail App

The guides cover a Mail-App for Android and for iOS devices. You open the app, type your email and password, and press Login. It can sync your address book, which is optional.

Phone Setup for IONOS

IONOS's help lists no separate app for webmail. It has guides for Gmail and the Samsung mail client on Android, and for Apple's Mail on iPhone. IONOS webmail itself needs no setup. A quick way to test a login is to sign in there.

When Your Mail Login Fails

Start with the quick checks from IONOS's login guide:

Look for typing errors, special characters and upper or lower case.
Check whether Caps Lock is on.
Check whether the number pad is active.
Try a private window, or clear the browser cache.
Look at the IONOS status page, which showed "Alle Systeme funktional" when we visited.

For the Webmailer, the guide suggests three more steps. Update the browser. Reset the browser settings. Turn off a firewall or protection program briefly to test it. If you can receive mail but not send it, look for a message from the 1&1 Abuse Department and follow it.

When mail does not arrive, the guide points to postmaster-contact.ionos.de. The tool walks you through the problem step by step. It is offered together with IONOS, the guide adds.

Beware of Fake Login Pages

Type the IONOS webmail address, mail.ionos.de, or www.1und1.de/login yourself. Do not sign in from a link in a message. IONOS has a service named "Verdächtige E-Mail (Phishing)" at phishing-contact.ionos.de. Our reverse email lookup shows the domain behind a sender, which helps with a first check.

Emailing IONOS Users? Verify Before You Send

Not every reader owns a mailbox here. Some of you send to people who do. IONOS mailboxes sit on the customer's own domain, so a list can hold many different endings that all run on IONOS. You cannot tell by the ending alone.

IONOS's help also describes catch-all addresses. A catch-all collects every message sent to a name that does not exist on the domain. Mail to a typo is then accepted instead of bouncing. IONOS creates one with an asterisk in front of the domain, such as *@example.com.

In the ZoomInfo help center, a two-factor troubleshooting article names an "Invalid Number" error. It appears when the phone number comes from an unsupported country or is a Voice over IP (VoIP) line. Your 2FA number "must be able to receive standard SMS text messages and cannot be a VoIP phone."

Click Forgot password? on the ZoomInfo login page.

"Computer Clock Time Inaccurate"

This error means your device clock is out of sync. ZoomInfo explains that sign-in uses time-sensitive tokens, so "even minor discrepancies can block your login." Turn on automatic time. On Windows, go to Settings, Time & Language, Date & time, and click Sync now. On a Mac, check "Set date and time automatically" and confirm your time zone.

"Social Logins Disabled"

Your company has turned off the Google and Office 365 buttons. Use your email address and secret instead.

"SMS Code Invalid"

Sometimes every step looks right and the ZoomInfo login still fails. ZoomInfo suggests a few checks.

Check the ZoomInfo status page

ZoomInfo runs a public status page at status.zoominfo.com. If a platform issue is listed, wait for it to clear before you change anything on your side.

Update your browser

ZoomInfo recommends Google Chrome. Open the three dots menu, go to Help, choose About Google Chrome and let it update. Then relaunch.

Allow ZoomInfo cookies

ZoomInfo's safelisting article explains a cookie rule for Chrome. Open chrome://settings/cookies, find "Sites that can always use cookies," click Add and enter [*].zoominfo.com. This lets ZoomInfo and its subdomains keep you signed in.

Safelist ZoomInfo email

Resets and alerts come by email. ZoomInfo asks your IT team to safelist the zoominfo.com domain. It also lists these sender addresses: sender@zoominfo.com, helpmenow@zoominfo.com, customersuccess@zoominfo.com, clientservices@zoominfo.com, accountinfo@zoominfo.com and dataservices@zoominfo.com. ZoomInfo notes that a safelist in Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 may not be enough when a second security tool, such as Proofpoint or Mimecast, still quarantines the message.

Signing In to the ZoomInfo Chrome Extension

The Chrome extension uses your browser session. You do not enter separate credentials. ZoomInfo's setup article gives three steps:

Log in at login.zoominfo.com.
Keep that tab open and visit the site where you want the extension.
Click the ZoomInfo icon. It detects your account and shows your initials in the panel.

There are two extensions: one for ZoomInfo Sales and one for ZoomInfo Talent. A Talent license cannot use the Sales extension, and the reverse is also true. If the extension will not load, ZoomInfo says to ask your IT team whether your organization allows it.

For Admins: Managing ZoomInfo Access

Admins handle most access fixes in the ZoomInfo Admin Portal. You open the admin portal from the waffle icon at the top right of the platform. From there an admin can:

Reset another user's 2FA under User Management.
Configure ZoomInfo SSO with Okta or Entra ID.
Set up auto provisioning through SCIM 2.0 or Salesforce.
Reactivate a user who is stuck on the pricing screen.

A quick rule for teams: name at least two admins. If the only admin loses 2FA access, the fix has to go through ZoomInfo support. A second admin can also cover holidays, when a locked-out rep would otherwise wait days.

New admins should also note the SAML renewal date in a shared calendar. An expired file blocks every SSO user at once, and the reminder email can land in a mailbox nobody reads.

ZoomInfo Support and the Help Center

For login trouble you cannot solve, ZoomInfo points users to helpmenow@zoominfo.com. The ZoomInfo help center at help.zoominfo.com holds the articles quoted in this guide, from second-factor setup to sign-in errors. The login screen also has a chat bot in the corner.

When you contact ZoomInfo support, include:

Your username.
The exact error text, word for word.
Which method you used.
Your browser and device.
When the problem started.

That detail saves a round of back-and-forth with the agent who picks up your ticket.

Spotting Fake ZoomInfo Login Emails

Any popular sign-in page attracts copycats. A fake message may say your password expired or your seat is locked. It then links to a site that looks like the ZoomInfo login page. Check three things before you click.

The link. Hover over it. A real link points to login.zoominfo.com.
The sender. Compare the address with the official senders listed above. A lookalike domain is a red flag.
The request. ZoomInfo's reset flow starts from its own form. Be wary of a message that asks you to reply with a code.

A few habits prevent most ZoomInfo login trouble:

Use one method. Stick with the method your admin chose.
Prefer an app for 2FA. Google Authenticator keeps working when SMS is slow.
Keep your device clock on automatic. It prevents token errors.
Bookmark the real address. It is the safest way in.
Leave shared computers clean. Untick Remember me on a machine others use.
Update your sign-in phone before you change numbers. Otherwise only an admin can let you back in.

After You Log In: Check Your Contact Data

Signing in is the start. Most people log in to ZoomInfo to find contacts and export them. One detail from ZoomInfo's own Chrome extension article matters here. When a contact is not in the ZoomInfo database, the extension can show "a likely email address based on the company's email pattern." A likely address is a guess, not a confirmed mailbox.

Vodafone Mail Login: Arcor and Kabelmail Sign In

The Vodafone mail login lives at mail.vodafone.de. That site says it is for accounts at Vodafone, Arcor, Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia. So an old Arcor mail address or a kabelmail address signs in where a new Vodafone one does. The service itself is called Vodafone E-Mail & Cloud.

This guide lists every sign-in route we could check. It then covers sign up, a forgotten password, the app, server names and outages. Each fact comes from Vodafone's own sites, read in October 2026. Vodafone's mail portal names four brands it serves, and Arcor and Kabel Deutschland are two of them.
The Arcor mail login and the kabelmail login both end at the same Vodafone form, as we saw when we opened them.

Vodafone's privacy notice names login.vodafonemail.de, www.vodafonemail.de, mail.vodafone.de and live.vodafone.de as places where the service can be reached.

The Main Login Form

The form has two boxes, "E-Mail-Adresse" and "E-Mail-Passwort". Two links sit under the red Login button: "MeinVodafone Login" and "Zugangsdaten vergessen". A line above the boxes says who it is for.

Below it, a line invites you to register if you have no account yet. The link "hier registrieren" leads to sign up.

Check the Domain

The sites we opened were mail.vodafone.de, live.vodafone.de, vodafone.de and status.vodafonemail.de. Type the link yourself rather than following one in a message. If a message claims to come from Vodafone, our reverse email lookup shows the domain behind the sender.

Arcor Mail Login

Arcor is one of the brands on Vodafone's form. An Arcor mailbox signs in at mail.vodafone.de, which names Arcor on its form. The site www.arcor.de forwards to Vodafone's live portal instead.

Use your whole Arcor address as the user name. The second box takes the password of that mailbox. Nothing else changes for Arcor in the apps or in a mail program.

Kabelmail Login

The kabelmail login works the same way. When we opened www.kabelmail.de, it forwarded to mail.vodafone.de. A kabelmail user fills in the same two boxes as everyone else. Update any old kabelmail bookmark to the new form.

Vodafone tells app users to sign in with a Vodafone, Kabel or Arcor address. A kabelmail user has a third option. Log in to MeinVodafone and click "Mein E-Mail-Konto" at the top right of the start screen.

Which Endings Belong to Which Login

Vodafone's sites name brands, not a list of endings. The help text gives one example, dein.name@vodafonemail.de.

We also looked up the mail servers of the common endings on 27 October 2026. The table below comes from DNS records, not from Vodafone.

Every host sits under vodafonemail.de. All six endings thus deliver to Vodafone's own machines, which is why one form serves each of them.

Vodafone Mail Login on a Computer

Open mail.vodafone.de.
Type your full address.
Type the password of the inbox. Vodafone also calls it the IMAP password.
Press Login.
If a second step is on, enter the code from your authenticator app.

Two Passwords, Two Logins

Vodafone keeps two secrets apart. One opens the mailbox. The other opens the customer area and is called the internet password. Vodafone says they differ.

The Second Step

Vodafone offers a two-factor login for mail. It needs an authenticator app, and Vodafone names Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. To turn it on:

Click your name at the top right.
Choose "Einstellungen".
Choose "Sicherheit" in the left menu.
Click "Aktivieren" and follow the prompts.

MeinVodafone has separate two-factor protection. If the app stops working, click "Kein Zugriff auf die Authentifizierungs-App" at the code prompt. A new QR code and a secret key follow.

Vodafone Mail Login in the App

The app, Vodafone E-Mail & Cloud, is in Google Play and the App Store. Sign in there as you would on the web. The service text adds that customer data works in the apps too.

Vodafone Mail Server Names

A mail program needs the IMAP data, not the customer data. Vodafone says the settings below fit every account that signs in through its portal.

TLS encryption became mandatory in October 2024, per the same text. Without it, the mailbox no longer works. Vodafone links setup guides for Thunderbird, Outlook, Windows Mail and Apple Mail.

Forgot the Vodafone Mail Password?

Open mail.vodafone.de, click "Zugangsdaten vergessen" under the Login button and follow the steps.

The window says you can create a new secret yourself. An unlock code goes to the contact address or the mobile number saved in your account, so that data must be current. The first step asks for the characters from an image. Then press Weiter.

Change a Working Password

Open the menu behind your name.
Choose "Einstellungen".
Open "Mein Konto" and then "Passwort".
Click "Bearbeiten" and save.

The new one applies at once. Vodafone asks for at least 8 characters, with a letter, a number and a special character. It suggests a change about every 3 months.

Sign Up for Vodafone Mail

A new address needs a customer account first. Vodafone's help gives these steps:

Click the button that sets up a mail account, then sign in to MeinVodafone.
Enter your first and last name and the name you want before the @.
Pick a password for the mailbox.
Accept the terms, press Weiter, check the summary and press Speichern.
Click "Zur Logout-Seite", log in again and open your mail account from the start screen.
Enter a German mobile number and a contact address.
Type the characters from the image and press "SMS-Freischaltcode anfordern".
Enter the SMS code within 15 minutes and press "Freischaltcode bestätigen".

Your pick becomes the main address, and Vodafone says it cannot be changed later. You can add aliases. Use a contact that differs from the new one, since it helps when you forget the login.

The first month of Premium is free. Over the limit, your data stays safe, but nothing new can be sent or received.

Vodafone Mail Störung: Check the Status Site

Vodafone runs status.vodafonemail.de. On the day we checked, it listed four services: Mailversand/-empfang, Mailabruf, Webseite and the iOS-/Android-App. All four showed Operational. The help text links to it as well.

If it shows green and the login still fails, check these points:

You did not use the internet password by mistake.
Your program uses the IMAP data.
Your storage is under its limit.
Your authenticator code is current.

Still stuck? Vodafone lists two phone lines. Customers with a mobile or internet contract call 0800 172 1212, free from German networks. Customers with only mail call 0900 512 51 22, on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, at 1,99 € a minute from a German landline.

Delete a Vodafone Mail Account

Open MeinVodafone, go to Mein Konto, then Übersicht, then "Vodafone E-Mail löschen". Tick the box and click "Unwiderruflich löschen". Vodafone then removes every address in the account, plus all messages, calendar entries and contacts, for good. Deleting your MeinVodafone account removes the mailbox too.

Emailing Vodafone, Arcor or Kabelmail Users? Verify Before You Send

Not every reader owns an account here. Some of you send to people who do. A list with @vodafonemail.de, @arcor.de and @kabelmail.de entries delivers to one mail system, as the DNS table above shows. Check those entries before a campaign, and check any signup form that collects them.

Vodafone lists 200 sent messages a day for Freemail and 2,000 for Premium. A bulk send from such an account hits that cap fast.

Does the Arcor mail login still work?

Yes, mail.vodafone.de lists Arcor among its accounts, so the Arcor mail login runs there. The arcor.de site itself forwards to the live portal.

The FAQ "Wie kann ich mich bei mail.de anmelden?" names the same routes. It recommends the website for your first sign-in and the app for phones.

The mail.de Login Form

The page greets you with "Keine Werbung. Kein Spam. Einfach nur E-Mail." Below it sit two boxes and a button.

A correct mail.de login opens the webmail at once. The first box asks for "E-Mail / Login", and the second for "Passwort". An eye icon reveals what you typed. Two links sit under the button, one for new accounts and one for a lost password.

Your Login Name

By default, your login is the address itself, or only the part before the @. For max.mustermann@mail.de, that is max.mustermann. Anyone who knows your address therefore knows your login.

For more safety, you can pick a custom name. It needs four characters, and one must come from this list: ! $ & / = ?. Once it is set, the address alone no longer opens the mailbox. Update your desktop clients too.

Stay Active on a Free Account

mail.de reserves the right to block free accounts that went unused for more than 180 days in a row. Its FAQ advises a visit about twice a year. Another help page says a long pause can also lead to deletion.

mail.de App for Phone and Tablet

The mail.de app exists for iOS and Android. The mail.de app login takes your normal address and password. mail.de describes it as one place for mail, address book, calendar and online storage. The mail.de app handles several accounts at once and supports push messages.

Sign In to the mail.de App

Install the app from the official store of your phone.
Open it. A start screen asks for your details.
Enter your login and password.

To add or switch accounts, open "Einstellungen" in the menu bar and choose "Meine Konten". Tap the account you want. A signed-out account asks for its password again.

mail.de says logging out is usually not needed. The device keeps your access, and the connection is encrypted. You can lock the mail.de app with a password, Face ID or Touch ID.

What the App Includes

The two free plans list the mail.de app "für E-Mails nutzen". The paid plans list it "im vollen Umfang nutzen inkl. E-Mail, Kalender, Onlinespeicher".

mail.de Sign Up: FreeMail and Paid Plans

The home page shows six plans. We read the prices as listed in October 2026, in euro and including VAT. Numbers appear as mail.de writes them.

The Zero tier comes without ads. FreeMail shows them, and mail.de's FAQ notes that a free product cannot last without ads. A mail.de email costs nothing on either free tier. The four paid tiers are ad-free. A footnote says PowerMail starts at 40 GB. Once you reach that quota, it grows by 1 GB a month.

On support, the Zero tier has none. FreeMail has limited help and no phone line. PureMail up to ProMail list regular support with a phone line. PowerMail gets priority.

Register in the App

The help center describes the app route as free and permanent:

Download the app. It opens on the login screen.
Tap "+ Kostenlos registrieren".
Choose the address you want and a strong password.
Enter your phone number. mail.de calls you with a confirmation code.
Type the code and tap "Registrieren".

Afterwards, use the new mail.de email and password on the login screen. mail.de says the call helps prevent fraud and the misuse of addresses for spam.

Register on the Website

The buttons "Jetzt registrieren!" and "Kostenlos anmelden" lead to signup.mail.de. When we opened that site from outside Germany, it answered "Netzwerk gesperrt!".

The text says access from the network is blocked for now. As the reason, it gives a spam rate above average in that network. It lists no workaround. Registration in the app is the other way.

Password Rules and Privacy

A password must have 12 characters or more. It needs capitals, small letters, one digit and one special character. The sign up lets only passwords through that meet these rules.

The home page promises a sparse registration, a pseudonym instead of your real name and no questions about personal data. This has a price. The reset page says an anonymous account cannot use the identity card route. Store a recovery option in the settings.

The First Login

After the first login, mail.de offers a setup assistant. It guides you through importing mail and contacts from other mailboxes.

mail.de Password Reset

mail.de runs the reset on one form. It sits one click away from the mail.de login. The same form also resets a login name or the authenticator.

You enter your address and solve the human check. Then you pick one of these options:

access through the app or a program, where mail.de leaves a code in your mailbox
a code sent to a mobile number you stored earlier
a code sent to a backup address you stored earlier
a photo of your identity card, only for accounts with a name and postal address
the 25-digit recovery code
a 16-digit confirmation code that you already received

The FAQ adds a hard rule. Only the options on the page are offered. If none of them works, a reset is ruled out for security and privacy reasons.

Set Up Recovery Before You Need It

mail.de strongly advises storing at least one option. After logging in, click the gear icon and choose "Einstellungen". Then go to "Konto", "Kundendaten" and "Konto-Wiederherstellung". You can store:

your postal data, which unlocks the identity card option
a mobile number, which mail.de uses for security contact
a backup address, which receives a code
a code to print and keep safe

You can change the password at any time. Log in, then pick "Konto" in the settings and click "Passwort". Type the new one twice and add your current one. Click "Speichern". The change counts at once.

Afterwards, enter it in every program that uses the account.

Two-Factor Sign-In and Backup Codes

mail.de recommends a second factor on top of a strong password. Three kinds exist.

Authenticator: an app creates a 6-digit code every 30 seconds. Write down the secret code, because mail.de can only unlock a lost authenticator against an identity card.
Passkeys and U2F: a hardware key such as a YubiKey adds a layer. mail.de accepts keys that follow the FIDO U2F or FIDO2 standard.
Backup Codes: ten emergency codes for the case that you lose your extra step. mail.de creates them when you first switch it on.

The page "Login Historie" lists the latest accesses by IMAP, POP3 or SMTP. If you see accesses you do not know, mail.de points to its article on hacked accounts.

mail.de IMAP and SMTP in Mail Programs

The FAQ offers desktop clients as a second way to sign in. For Outlook and Thunderbird, mail.de recommends IMAP. mail.de IMAP leaves mail on the server and keeps folders in sync across devices. That suits anyone who reads mail on a phone and a laptop. POP3 downloads mail to one computer.

The mail.de SMTP server handles outgoing mail, and the mail.de SMTP login matches your webmail login. The FAQ names these settings:

imap.mail.de for incoming mail and smtp.mail.de for outgoing mail
the ports 993, 465 and 587
SSL/TLS as the right encryption, since STARTTLS is a common mistake

Protocol Status

You can switch protocols on or off. Open "Einstellungen", then "Konto" and "Protokoll-Status". If a protocol is off, a program that needs it cannot sign in. The app then shows "Protokoll deaktiviert". A switched-off mail.de IMAP is therefore a common reason for a refused login. The same goes for mail.de SMTP when sending fails.

Router Note for Telekom Speedport

One help page covers the Telekom Speedport W724V. Its list of safe mail servers can block sending. If your program cannot send, add that server to the list "Liste der erlaubten E-Mail-Server" and save.

The FAQ "Konto" lists the usual causes when a mail.de login fails in the webmail.

Errors in Mail Programs

Three messages come up most often:

"Connection timed out" means a wrong server name, a wrong port, or a short IP block after a burst of failed logins from your address.
"Connection refused" usually points to a wrong port in the mail.de SMTP settings, or a typo in the server name.
Certificate errors mean the wrong encryption.

For the app, test the sign-in in the browser first. The webmail shows the most precise message.

Habits That Prevent Errors

Type your details by hand, because pasted text can carry invisible spaces.
Update your password manager after every change.
Refresh all devices after a new second factor.
If nothing helps, write to support with the exact error, the device, the protocol and the time it began.

Outages

The FAQ on faults names two outside pages. The page mailstatus.de shows the weekly availability of single services. The page allestoerungen.de gives a second hint. The footer of mail.de also has a "Serverstatus" link.

A fault does not always block every route. Try the browser, the app and a client set to mail.de IMAP, or one set to POP3. mail.de asks customers not to use the hotline or email support during an outage.

Contact and Phone Support

The help page has a contact form. A free account that wants a call can upgrade. The help page points to ProMail.

Close a mail.de Account

Back up your mails, address book and calendar entries first. Then open "Einstellungen", select the tab "Konto" and choose "Vertragsdaten". Select "Nutzerkonto löschen" and follow the steps. The footer also links to "Vertrag kündigen".

Emailing mail.de Users? Verify Before You Send

Not everyone reading this guide owns a mailbox at mail.de. Some of you send to people who do. If your list holds @mail.de entries, check them before a campaign. The same goes for a signup form that collects them.

A mail.de email can bounce like any other. mail.de's FAQ on the "Mail Delivery System" explains returned messages. The usual causes are a typo, a full mailbox and an address that no longer exists. It quotes these server texts: "550 5.1.1 User unknown", "552 Mailbox full" and "Recipient address rejected". Each one ends up as a bounce in your report.

How do I sign in to mail.de?

The mail.de login starts at my.mail.de, or at the "Zum Login" button on the start page. Type your login and your password, then click "Jetzt einloggen". The app and desktop clients take the same details.

Is a mail.de email address free?

mail.de has two free tiers, FreeMail Zero and FreeMail. FreeMail has twice the storage and shows ads. FreeMail Zero has 500 MB and no ads. The paid plans start at 0,99 € a month.

Why can I not register at mail.de?

mail.de blocks registration for networks with an above-average spam rate. From outside Germany, the page showed "Netzwerk gesperrt!". The app offers a second way to register, with a confirmation call to your phone.

What can I do if I forgot my mail.de password?

The link "Passwort vergessen" on the login form leads to a reset form. You can use a stored mobile number, a stored backup address, program access, an ID card or the recovery code you printed. Without any of these, mail.de cannot reset the password.

Can I use mail.de in Outlook or Thunderbird?

Yes, it works with Thunderbird, Outlook and Apple Mail. Its help recommends mail.de IMAP for reading and names imap.mail.de and smtp.mail.de as server names. Sending runs through mail.de SMTP. After a password or login change, enter the new data in the program too.

Why does mail.de say too many failed attempts?

mail.de locks the login for a short time after too many typos in the password. The message asks you to try again in 30 minutes. If you are unsure of your password, use the reset page meanwhile.

Does mail.de delete an account that I do not use?

A free mail.de email that stays idle for six months risks suspension. Signing in now and then keeps the mail.de login alive. A closed account allows no more logins, per the FAQ.

Does mail.de have phone support?

Phone support belongs to the paid plans. FreeMail customers can use the help area, the FAQs and the contact form. The page names an upgrade as the way to get a call.

Until now, using BillionVerify in Claude meant copying our MCP server URL and adding it as a custom connector yourself. The directory listing replaces that step: there is no URL to paste and no API key to copy.

How to connect BillionVerify in Claude

Open claude.ai/directory/billionverify, or search for BillionVerify in Claude's connector directory.
Click Connect, sign in with your BillionVerify account, and approve access.
Start a chat and ask something like "Is this address safe to send to?"

How credits work in Claude

Verifying an address in Claude costs the same as verifying it anywhere else in BillionVerify: one credit for a definite result. Unknown, disposable and badly formatted addresses are free, and so is checking the same address again within 24 hours. Checking your balance, history, statistics, job status and webhooks doesn't use credits.

Catch-all addresses are reported as catch-all, not counted as valid, so you can decide how to treat them.

3 Critical Pitfalls in Signup Form Validation

I was reviewing the user database at a SaaS company where I'd just started consulting. The product had grown to 8,000 active users, and they were struggling with a mysterious problem: their email marketing campaigns were bouncing at 6.2%, just above the critical 5% threshold where ISPs start treating them like spammers. When I dug deeper, I found something worse than bad emails—I found patterns of deliberate negligence in their validation strategy.

One user had signed up with john@gmail.com but the database contained john@gmai1.com (with a "1" instead of an "l"). Another had registered using temp@10minutemail.com, a famous disposable email service. Still others had used catch-all addresses like noreply@company.com that would accept any email sent to them, trapping the company's transactional messages in a black hole. When I asked the engineering team why these weren't caught, they gave me variations of the same answer: "we validate with regex on the frontend," or "we validate after signup," or "we don't check for disposable emails."

That's when I realized signup form validation is much more complex than most developers think. It's not just about regex patterns or timing—it's about understanding exactly when and how to validate, and what factors to check for. Today, I'll walk you through the three critical pitfalls that are probably costing your product right now.

The First Pitfall: Trusting Frontend Validation Alone

Your frontend validation probably looks something like this. You've got a React component with a form, and you validate emails with a regex pattern before the user can submit:

This looks fine to a user. The regex catches obviously broken addresses like notanemail or test@, and the form feels responsive. But here's what happens when you test it with real data:

The problem is that regex validation only checks syntax. It never touches reality. It doesn't contact the mail server, doesn't check if the domain exists, doesn't verify that the mailbox will actually accept mail. Your 95% regex-validated emails might include 8-10% that are legitimately problematic.

Here's the real cost: let's say you have 10,000 users and 8% have problematic emails. You send them your weekly digest. That's 800 bounces. Do it weekly for 4 weeks, and you've sent 3,200 emails that will bounce. Your sending reputation drops. ISPs watch this behavior. After a few weeks, Gmail starts filtering your entire domain to spam. Now your legitimate users don't receive your emails either, even though those addresses are perfectly valid.

I've calculated the cost at one company: they were losing roughly $15,000 per month in undelivered transactional emails (password resets, billing notifications) that users didn't receive because their sender reputation was poisoned by 8% bad data. That's the cost of trusting regex alone.

The Second Pitfall: Validating Emails After Signup

Once you realize frontend validation isn't enough, the natural instinct is to add backend validation. Many teams do this, but they make a timing mistake: they validate after the user has already been created in the database.

Here's how this typically looks:

The problem with this approach is subtle but costly. You've created the user account before knowing whether the email is legitimate. This means:

Your database is polluted with bad emails. You now have 10,000 users but maybe 800 of them have invalid emails. Cleaning this up later is expensive.
Verification emails don't reach the user. They sign up, click the verification link... except they never receive the email because it's a disposable address or spamtrap. They think your system is broken.
You've already paid for storage and computing. Every invalid email in your database is a record you'll need to handle, validate, or clean up later.
Your metrics are misleading. You report 10,000 signups, but only 9,200 are real. This makes it hard to understand your actual product-market fit.

The timing matters enormously. If you validate after signup, you're working with incomplete information. The user might never complete email verification. They might give up. They might have a bad experience and abandon your product.

The Third Pitfall: Not Checking for Disposable Emails and Spam Traps

This is the most insidious problem because it silently degrades your deliverability over time. You validate that an email exists, but you don't check whether it's legitimate—whether it's a real person you want in your system.

Disposable email services like 10minutemail.com, tempmail.com, and guerrillamail.com are designed specifically to be temporary. Users sign up for them when they don't want to give you a real email address. Spam traps are even worse—they're email addresses that don't belong to real people but are monitored by ISPs to catch senders who validate against outdated or unreliable lists.

Here's what the impact looks like over time. Let's build a scenario where you're not checking for these:
