      <title>Steady Self-Catalyzed Increase of III-V Nanowires.</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) experience frequent acute exacerbations and require repeated courses of corticosteroid therapy, which may lead to adverse effects. Methotrexate (MTX) has anti-inflammatory properties. The objective of this study was to describe the risk of COPD exacerbation in patients exposed to MTX. In this nationwide cohort study of 58,580 COPD outpatients, we compared the risk of hospitalization-requiring COPD exacerbation or death within 180 days in MTX vs. non-MTX users in a propensity-score matched study population as well as an unmatched cohort, in which we adjusted for confounders. The use of MTX was associated with a reduction in risk of COPD exacerbation in the propensity-score matched population at 180 days follow-up (HR 0.66, CI 0.66-0.66, p less then 0.001). Similar results were shown in our sensitivity analyses at 180-day follow-up on unmatched population and 365-day follow-up on matched and unmatched population (HR 0.76 CI 0.59-0.99, HR 0.81 CI 0.81-0.82 and HR 0.92 CI 0.76-1.11, respectively). MTX was associated with a lower risk of COPD exacerbation within the first six months after study entry. The finding seems biologically plausible and could potentially be a part of the management of COPD patients with many exacerbations.Living organisms interact with each other during their lifetime, leading to genomes rearrangement and sequences transfer. These well-known phenomena give these organisms mosaic genomes, which challenge their classification. Moreover, many findings occurred between the IXXth and XXIst century, especially the discovery of giant viruses and candidate phyla radiation (CPR). Here, we tried to provide an updated classification, which integrates 216 representative genomes of the current described organisms. The reclassification was expressed through a genetic network based on the total genomic content, not on a single gene to represent the tree of life. This rhizomal exploration represents, more accurately, the evolutionary relationships among the studied species. Our analyses show a separated branch named fifth TRUC (Things Resisting Uncompleted Classifications). This taxon groups CPRs together, independently from Bacteria, Archaea (which regrouped also Nanoarchaeota and Asgard members), Eukarya, and the giant viruses (recognized recently as fourth TRUC). Finally, the broadening of analysis methods will lead to the discovery of new organisms, which justify the importance of updating the classification at every opportunity. In this perspective, our pragmatic representation could be adjusted along with the progress of evolutionary studies. &lt;br&gt;
 Recent data have shown that short dental implants can be the preferred treatment in most of cases of posterior atrophic alveolar ridges, offering higher survival and lower complication rates than long implants. The survival rates, stability, and marginal bone level changes were compared between short implants (7 and 8.5 mm) and standard-length implants (≥10 mm). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Prospective observational study in which adult patients requiring ≥1 osseointegrated implants to replace missing teeth were recruited consecutively. A clinical examination was performed on the day the definitive prosthesis was placed and after 6 and 12 months. Implant stability quotient (ISQ), marginal bone level (MBL) changes, and the correlation between these parameters and the characteristics of the implants were evaluated. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 99 implants were inserted (47 short, 52 standard) in 74 patients. The 12-month survival rate was 100%. ISQ values showed a similar pattern for both types of implants. No correlation was found between ISQ changes after one year and MBL values, nor between the latter and the characteristics of the implants. &lt;/p&gt;

Ocular involvement is particularly frequent and severe; vascular occlusion secondary to retinal vasculitis may lead to rapid and severe loss of vision. Biologics have transformed the management of intraocular inflammation. However, the diagnosis of BD is still a major challenge. In the absence of a reliable biological marker, diagnosis is based on clinical diagnostic criteria and may be delayed after the appearance of the onset sign. However, therapeutic management of BD needs to be introduced early in order to control inflammation, to preserve visual function and to limit irreversible structural damage.       <description>&lt;p&gt;In this study, we investigated the relationship between environmental parameters (water and sediment) and benthic foraminiferal assemblages found in nearshore siliciclastic sediment in the Arabian Gulf. Nearshore marine water and sediment samples were collected from a beach on the Gulf of Bahrain located south of Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The water samples were analyzed for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and other chemical analyses. The sediment samples were tested for sediment oxygen demand (SOD) and heavy metal analysis. Results showed the BOD5 levels were below the detection limit ( less then 1 ppm), while the mean SOD value was 0.97 ± 0.08 g/m2·day. The water and sediments were unpolluted and free of eutrophic enrichment, while the sediment was anoxic. The two most common genera in the benthic foraminiferal assemblage, Ammonia and Elphidium, are typical of shallow water sandy substrates. This is the first reported comparison between SOD and benthic foraminiferal assemblages. &lt;br&gt;
 The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dental anomalies in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia using the digital Orthopantomography (OPG). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A retrospective radiographic study was performed in which digital OPGs of 1189 subjects, ages ranging between 7 and 65years were reviewed, and 1104 fulfilled inclusion criteria. Statistical analysis was performed. The OPGs were reviewed for congenitally missing teeth, impactions, ectopic eruption, supernumerary teeth, odontomas, dilacerations, taurodontism, dens in dente, gemination and fusion. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;OPGs of 1104 patients with mean age 35.32±16.63 were included. The total prevalence of developmental anomalies in this study was 36.3% (401/1104). Male and female subjects with anomalies were 133 (33.2%) and 268 (66.8%) respectively. The prevalence of dilacerated teeth 300 (30.2%), congenitally missing teeth was 246 (24.7%), supernumerary teeth 18 (1.8%), talon cusp and taurodontism were seen in one patient each 1 (0.1%). Of these, a total of 15 (1.5%) anomalies were noted in pediatric patients. &lt;/p&gt;

Rice is the staple food and consumed by the half of the world's population which is the source of daily requirement of the nutrients. Attempts are being made to fortify rice with micronutrients, but the loss or retention of these micronutrients in different cooking methods is not well studied and documented especially in fortified rice. In the present study, paddy seeds of six Indian varieties were fortified with iron and zinc by parboiling process. Consequently, fortified polished rice had higher micronutrient contents (Fe, 106.31 ± 12.56; Zn, 97.72 ± 9.75) than non-fortified polished rice (Fe, 7.44 ± 1.05; Zn, 14.74 ± 2.94) expressed in ppm. Polished rice of both fortified and non-fortified were cooked under five different cooking conditions and analyzed for remaining iron and zinc content. Cooking rice in rice cooker without prior washing (NRC) retained highest concentration of Fe and Zinc in both fortified and non-fortified rice varieties. It also showed that fortified rice suffered higher percentage loss of micronutrient, than the non-fortified rice. But the average retained micronutrient amount measured in ppm, was higher in fortified rice (Fe, 43.54 ± 6.88; Zn, 36.7 ± 3.12) than in non-fortified rice (Fe, 4.24 ± 0.87; Zn, 9.3 ± 2.11). Hence, adopting appropriate cooking method, higher amount of micronutrients will be retained in the cooked food which will in turn help in combating the malnutrition and improve health.The role of natural antioxidants in preventing of age-relating diseases is evident. The vegetable industry generates a large amount of waste, which is a good source of antioxidants. The aim of the study was the investigation of the antioxidant effect of long-term consumption of ethanolic yellow onion husk extract in ageing laboratory rodents. Twenty male Wistar albino rats were divided randomly into two groups (n = 10) a control group and an experimental group that received ethanolic yellow onion husk extract (2 mL/rat diluted with distilled water; activity of 4.44 µmol-equiv. quercetin) for 188 days. Oxygen radical absorbance capacity and ferric reducing antioxidant power assays were used to determine the total antioxidant capacity of the extract, which amounted to 941.4 ± 32.7 µmol equiv. Trolox/g raw material and 167.4 ± 16.4 µmol-equiv. quercetin/g raw material, respectively. Oral intake of the onion husk extract affected the indicators of the antioxidant system of the liver and the brain but not of the blood and plasma, mainly due to elevations in the activity of catalase and superoxide dismutase in the liver by 44.4% and 79.1%, respectively, and in the brain by three-fold and 79.1%, respectively. The availability, cheapness and high antioxidant potential of onion waste qualifies it a good source of functional ingredients and bioactive substances applicable in the food and pharmaceutical industries.The purpose of this study is to access the existing awareness of nearly forgotten Thai detergent plants by the use of chemometrics tool. A Northern Thai forest dependent community was chosen as it played vital role on knowledge retaining of plant utilisations. For initial perception, ethnobotanical survey was conducted to determine usage of plants by the community. Then the utilised plant parts were screened for phytochemicals and their relationships with the defined cleansing terms (viz., shampoo, scrub, detergent, soap, scent and spiritual) were analysed by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). From the results, the most cited plants as known, used and found were Acacia concinna, Clitoria ternetea, Oryza sativa and Citrus hystrix. Biometric analyses advised that knowledge of detergent plant utilisation was well preserved at all age ranges and it was not variable with genders. Cluster analysis described that term 'spiritual' was not narrated with cleansing properties. However, due to inadequate priming of the immune system, a certain subgroup of patients remains resistant to cancer immunotherapies during or after the treatment. β2-microglobulin (B2M) is an important subunit of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I which exerts substantive biological functions in tumorigenesis and immune control. Accumulating evidence has shown that alterations of B2M gene and B2M proteins contribute to poor reaction to cancer immunotherapies by dampening antigen presentation. Here, we discuss the basic biological functions of B2M, its distribution in a spectrum of cancers, and current understanding of its role in ICI, cancer vaccines and chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapies. Furthermore, we summarize some promising therapeutic strategies to improve the efficacy inhibited by B2M defects.Chagas disease, caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, is a major public health problem and is described as one of the most neglected diseases worldwide. It affects about 6-7 million people. Currently, only two drugs are available for the treatment of this disease nifurtimox and benznidazole. However, both drugs are highly toxic and have several side effects, which lead many patients to discontinue treatment. Moreover, these compounds show a significant curative efficacy only in the acute phase of the disease. Therefore, searching for new drugs is necessary. The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo activity of a benzofuroxan derivative (EA2) against T. cruzi, and to evaluate the hematological and biochemical changes induced by its treatment in animals infected with T. cruzi. In this experiment, EA2 was diluted at three different concentrations (0.25, 0.50, and 5 and 2.5 mg/kg, respectively). Other STAC isoforms are expressed in the brain and may serve as regulators of L-type CaVs. Despite the short length of STACs, several points of contacts have been proposed between them and CaVs. However, it is currently unclear whether STAC3 also forms direct interactions with RyR1, and whether this modulates RyR1 function. Thus, impairments in attention to the eyes of an interaction partner might play a role in the etiology of antisocial behavior and violence. For the first time, the present study extends investigations of eye gaze to a large sample (N = 173) including not only male but also female violent offenders and a control group. We assessed viewing patterns during the categorization of emotional faces via eye tracking. Our results indicate a reduced frequency of initial attention shifts to the eyes in female and male offenders compared to controls, while there were no general group differences in overall attention to the eye region (i.e., relative dwell time). The state of the art reveals the need for efficient biocatalyst based on carbonic anhydrase that can be used to further develop CO2 capture and utilization technologies. The present study is focused on the use of a thermostable CA-based biocatalyst. The carbonic anhydrase SspCA, from the thermophilic bacterium Sulfurihydrogenibium yellowstonense, was in vivo immobilized as membrane-anchored protein (INPN-SspCA) on the outer membrane of Escherichia coli cells. The dispersed biocatalyst, made by cell membrane debris, was characterized in terms of its contribution to the enhancement of CO2 absorption in carbonate/bicarbonate alkaline buffer at operating conditions relevant for industrial CO2 capture processes. The amount of immobilized enzyme, estimated by SDS-PAGE, resulted in about 1 mg enzyme/g membrane debris. &lt;p&gt;Rats received vanillin (100mg/kg orally) for 10 constitutive days and CP (7.5mg/kg, once, ip) on day 6 of vanillin administration. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Cisplatin suppressed body weight gain, increased serum urea and creatinine and renal malondialdehyde and nitric oxide while decreased renal total antioxidant capacity. Up-regulation of NADPH oxidase-4 (NOX-4) was marked in renal tissue of CP-treated rats along with down-regulation of the antioxidant genes (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor2 (NRF2) and haem oxygenase-1(HO-1)). Increased tumour necrosis factor-α and decreased interleukin-10 with increased myeloperoxidase activity were apparent in renal tissue of CP-treated rats along with marked tubular injury, neutrophil infiltration and increased apoptosis (caspase-3) and some degree of interstitial fibrosis. Vanillin prophylactic administration prevented the deterioration of kidney function, oxidative and nitrosative stress. It also suppressed NOX-4 and up-regulated NRF2 and HO-1 expression in renal tissue. Inflammation, apoptosis and tubular injury were also inhibited by vanillin. &lt;/p&gt;

 Perioperative management of children with haemophilia undergoing surgery is a complex and understudied topic. Circumcision is the most common procedure performed in the neonatal period, and guidelines to prevent bleeding complications from circumcision are lacking. Treatment protocols vary widely, and many centres treat patients with factor products for up to two weeks after circumcision. There is an unmet need for studies evaluating optimal factor replacement therapy around the time of circumcision in neonates with severe haemophilia. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We conducted a retrospective chart review of male infants born between January 2000 and June 2019. Male neonates with severe haemophilia diagnosed at the Iowa Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (n=22) and healthy newborn controls who underwent circumcision at the University of Iowa Hospitals were included. Data were collected from the electronic medical record. Neonates with severe haemophilia were separated into two groups-those pretreated with one dose of factor replacement before circumcision and those without pretreatment. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We observed that neonates with severe haemophilia pretreated with a single dose of factor VIII or factor IX replacement had significantly reduced bleeding complications, shorter hospital stay and required less therapeutic intervention compared with untreated patients. Importantly, pretreated patients had outcomes similar to healthy controls. &lt;/p&gt;

 Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a relatively common inflammatory disease, with unclear etiology. A number of studies have linked Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) with OLP. The present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the available evidence regarding the potential association between EBV and OLP. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Online databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, and Google Scholar) were searched from date of inception till May 2020. read more Studies were included if they met the following criteria 1) observational studies that assessed the relationship between EBV and OLP, 2) the study comprised OLP patients and control subjects, 3) diagnosis of OLP was confirmed histopathologically, and 4) articles were in English. Studies without control groups, experimental studies, case reports, and reviews were excluded. The fixed-effects model was performed for meta-analyses using RevMan 5.3 software. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A total of 10 studies comprising 386 OLP cases and 304 controls were included. Of these, only 8 studies were eligible for the meta-analysis. The results of the quality assessment showed that only 2 studies were of high quality, while the remaining studies were of moderate quality. The results of the pooled eight studies revealed a significant positive association between EBV and OLP (OR=4.41, 95% CI [2.74, 7.11], P&amp;lt;.0001). &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The results of the present systematic review suggest that EBV infection is statistically associated with increased risk of OLP.
