What the f*ck happened to builders?

Does nobody build stuff just for fun anymore?

When did we stop tinkering just because something was interesting?

When I started college back in 2019, I started tinkering with programming languages

I fell in love with C, then C++, then BOOM

I was introduced to Python by Tulesko, and like any sane person, I felt like god using len() for the first time to calculate length of an array.

Then I learned JavaScript and TypeScript, another game changer and helped me secure my first internship and eventually job.

I was over the moon, enjoying the journey, having fun, learning new things everyday.

Promises, async await, event loop was learning a fair share of data structures on the side as well.

And then something shifted, 6 Years have passed since I wrote my first line of code.

I have explored multiple languages till now, Rust, Go, Haskell, Perl

Never felt the joy again, It was gone.

Because most of the time it was just for ticking checkboxes for job changes/ salary hikes. Never just to learn, just to tinker with something new for fun.

When I see students today. They are missing out on this entirely.

They are either too busy to complete the YC application or building their micro saas for financial freedom or building the next revolutionary AI wrapper.

Man, just build for the fun of building, enjoy the process, before its too late.

Until the next Rant,

Pees out.

This is a submission for the Postmark Challenge: Inbox Innovators.

 What I Built

ReplyAs - a modern shared inbox platform that transforms how teams handle email collaboration. 📬 Instead of sharing passwords or forwarding emails, teams can now manage support emails together in real-time with complete transparency and control.
The platform features a unified inbox that multiple team members can access simultaneously, with live activity tracking to prevent duplicate responses and maintain email thread context. 🔄 Instead of replying to the same email from two different email addresses with different responses, team members can discuss among themselves and coordinate their approach before sending a unified reply.

The solution addresses the common pain point of teams needing shared email access without compromising security 🔐, making it perfect for customer support teams, shared department inboxes, or any collaborative email scenario. Teams can assign emails, add internal notes with @mentions, and track progress through a 5-stage workflow system (Todo → In Progress → Drafting Reply → In Review → Done). ✅

 Demo🎬

🔗 Sign in at: https://replyas.com/auth/sign-in

📤 Send an email to postmarktest10@gmail.com

📥 Watch the reply appear in "support" inbox

A shared inbox platform that enables teams to collaboratively manage support
emails with real-time updates. Reply As allows teams to:

Create a unified support email inbox without sharing passwords

Invite team members to access and respond to emails

See real-time updates as emails arrive and teammates respond

Avoid duplicate responses with live activity tracking

Maintain email thread history and context across the team

Assign and track email ownership

Keep sensitive email credentials secure while enabling team access

Perfect for customer support teams, shared department inboxes, or any scenario
where multiple people need controlled access to a common email account.

Features

Team Collaboration: Assign emails, add internal notes with @mentions, and
track real-time activity

Organize Emails: Custom labels, bookmarks, and smart filtering (starred
archived, spam)

Workflow Management: 5-stage email status tracking (Todo → In Progress →
Drafting Reply → In Review → Done)

Custom Domains…

View on GitHub

 How I Built It

🔧 Implementation Process

The building process was incredibly smooth thanks to Postmark's inbound email parsing capabilities. The webhook integration was straightforward to implement, and the data structure provided by Postmark was well-organized and intuitive, making it easy to understand every field and its purpose.

🛠️ Tech Stack

⚡ Next.js with React 19

🎨 Shadcn/ui

🗄️ Supabase

🔄 Server Actions

🔍 TanStack Query

🛣️ Next.js API Routes for webhook handling and backend logic

How I Built It
I used a webhook endpoint to receive inbound emails from Postmark. The core implementation can be found in
src/app/api/webhook/postmark/route.ts
where I parse the structured email data, extract essential fields like Message-ID, sender information, and handle email threading through References and In-Reply-To headers.

Email Processing Workflow

Once I receive the
finalEmailData
from Postmark, my system handles several key operations:

Email Threading: I analyze the
References
and
In-Reply-To
headers to determine if this is a reply to an existing thread, then link it appropriately

Attachment Processing: Base64 attachments are decoded and saved with proper metadata handling

User Status Management: For each new email, I create individual status records for all team members (read/unread, bookmarked, subscribed status)

Spam & Filtering: Built-in spam detection and custom filtering rules are applied

After the initial save, everything else is handled seamlessly by my application logic. Postmark's transactional email API was equally impressive - I created a simple wrapper function that made sending replies and notifications effortless.

The entire integration felt natural and well-documented, allowing me to focus on building the collaborative features rather than wrestling with email parsing complexities.

 📦Key Features:

💬 Real-time internal chat for team coordination

🔔 @mentions and notifications to keep everyone in the loop

🎯 Intelligent filters that surface important emails instantly

⭐ Company-level features like starring and archiving for shared workflows

🔖 Personal-level features like bookmarks and quick access customization

📂 Filter views for archived emails, spam management, and organized categories

📧 Proper email rendering with full document, image, and embed support

🧵 Email thread creation maintaining reply chains and conversations

📊 Activity timeline showing what's happening with each email

🌐 Custom domain integration with DNS verification

🔐 Role-based access control with admin and member permissions

🏗️ Self-hostable open-source architecture for complete data control

🚀 Upcoming Features / Future Improvements

🔐 Granular permissions for team members on per-inbox basis

👀 Custom "Views" based on saved filters (e.g., "Starred and assigned to me", "Received 10 days ago but not replied to", "High value customer label and assigned to me")

📎 Attachment support in the email reply editor

 💡 Inspiration & Credits

JavaScript continues to be the backbone of modern web development, with frameworks playing a pivotal role in enhancing productivity and streamlining the development process. As we step into 2025, several frameworks have emerged as top contenders, each offering unique features and benefits tailored to specific project needs. Let's dive into the evolution of JavaScript frameworks and explore the best options for developers this year.

 The Evolution of JavaScript Frameworks

JavaScript frameworks have significantly evolved since the early days of jQuery. Today, frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js dominate the landscape, offering robust solutions for building dynamic and scalable applications. This evolution reflects the changing demands of web development, where efficiency, performance, and developer experience are paramount.

Less boilerplate code

Reactive by default

Usage Statistics:

Ranked 8th in State of JS 2024 survey

81.2k+ stars on GitHub

Rather than being a piece of software that sits between you and the browser, giving you a set of abstractions to work with, it essentially writes your app for you in the most efficient way possible. - Rich Harris, creator of Svelte

But what does it mean to be bold in your career? Let's dive into some actionable strategies that can help you minimize regrets and maximize success.

 1. Take Calculated Risks 🎲

Stepping out of your comfort zone is essential for growth. Whether it's pursuing a challenging new role, starting your own business, or proposing an innovative project, taking calculated risks can lead to significant rewards.

 3. Seek Out New Challenges and Responsibilities 🏆

Actively look for opportunities to expand your skills. This proactive approach demonstrates initiative and can lead to accelerated career growth. Be open to tackling projects outside your usual scope to broaden your expertise.

 4. Network Strategically 🤝

Building a strong professional network is crucial. Attend industry events, join professional associations, and connect with colleagues across different departments. Bold networking can open doors to new opportunities and provide valuable insights for career advancement.

 5. Invest in Continuous Learning 📚

Stay ahead of industry trends by consistently updating your skills and knowledge. Pursue advanced degrees, obtain certifications, or engage in self-directed learning. A commitment to lifelong learning ensures you remain competitive and adaptable in a rapidly changing job market.

 6. Advocate for Yourself 🗣️

Promote your achievements and express your career aspirations. Schedule regular check-ins with your manager to discuss your progress and goals. Being your own advocate is crucial for ensuring your contributions are recognized and rewarded.

 7. Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity 🔄

Reframe failures as valuable learning experiences rather than setbacks. Bold professionals understand that mistakes are an inevitable part of growth and innovation. By adopting a growth mindset, you can bounce back stronger from setbacks and use them to fuel future success.

 8. Seek Out Mentors and Sponsors 👥

Cultivate relationships with mentors who can provide guidance and sponsors who can advocate for your career advancement. These connections can offer valuable insights, open doors to new opportunities, and help you navigate complex career decisions.

 9. Practice Assertive Communication 🗨️

Develop your ability to communicate confidently and assertively. This includes clearly articulating your ideas, negotiating effectively, and providing constructive feedback. Strong communication skills are essential for leadership roles and career progression.

 10. Set Ambitious Goals 🎯

Challenge yourself by setting stretch goals that push you beyond your current capabilities. Bold goal-setting encourages personal growth and can lead to remarkable achievements. Break down larger goals into actionable steps to maintain motivation and track progress.

Conclusion: Create Your Own Opportunities 🌟

Instead of waiting for opportunities to come to you, be proactive in creating them. Propose new initiatives, identify unmet needs within your organization, or even start a side project that aligns with your career goals. By taking initiative, you demonstrate leadership and drive your own career growth.
By incorporating these bold strategies into your career approach, you can minimize regrets and maximize your potential for success. Remember, being bold doesn't mean being reckless—it's about taking calculated risks, pushing your boundaries, and consistently striving for growth and improvement. As you implement these ideas, you'll likely find yourself better positioned for career advancement and personal fulfillment.
