Data were collected from 210 participants with an STI using a semi-structured interview along with culturally adapted standardized instruments. Results indicated no differences between transgender and cisgender groups in depression, although there were large differences in social support and self-esteem. The aim of this study was to show the importance of ocular-disease screening in psoriatic patients using the Ocular Manifestations in Psoriasis Screening (OcMaPS) questionnaire. Patients suffering from moderate-to-severe psoriasis referring at our outpatient-clinic were consecutively enrolled. Each patient was asked to complete a screening questionnaire (OcMaPS). Patients reporting ocular symptoms were referred for an ophthalmological examination. A total of 372 patients were enrolled in the study. Ocular symptoms were detected in 39 patients (10.5%), and 37 patients were referred to ophthalmological examination which confirmed the presence of ocular manifestation in 30 patients. There were three cases (10%) of uveitis, 14 (46.6%) of dry eye and 13 (43.3%) of cataract, in progress or already treated with surgery. In the remaining seven patients, no ocular manifestations were found. Ocular manifestations in psoriatic patients are not rare. It is important to be aware of ocular symptoms in psoriatic patients, screening patients (with a consultation or OcMaPS questionnaire), which leads to earlier diagnosis and treatment.In trauma patients, bleeding can lead to coagulopathy, hemorrhagic shock, and multiorgan failure, and therefore is of fundamental significance in regard to early morbidity. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tranexamic acid (TXA) in civil and military settings and its impact on in-hospital mortality (survival to hospital discharge or 30-day survival), intensive care unit and hospital length of stay, incidence of adverse events (myocardial infarct and neurological complications), and volume of blood product transfusion. The systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A systematic review of the literature using PubMed, Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register and Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) database was conducted from inception to 10 January 2021. In-hospital mortality was reported in 14 studies and was 15.5% for the TXA group as compared with 16.4% for the non-TXA group (OR = 0.81, 95% CI 0.62-1.06, I2 = 83%, p = 0.12). In a civilian TXA application, in-hospital mortality in the TXA and non-TXA groups amounted to 15.0% and 17.1%, respectively (OR = 0.69, 95% CI 0.51-0.93, p = 0.02, I2 = 78%). A subgroup analysis of the randomized control trial (RCT) studies showed a statistically significant reduction in in-hospital mortality in the TXA group (14.3%) as compared with the non-TXA group (15.7%, OR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.83-0.96, p = 0.003, I2 = 0%). To summarize, TXA used in civilian application reduces in-hospital mortality. Application of TXA is beneficial for severely injured patients who undergoing shock and require massive blood transfusions.  To determine differences in clinical presentation and disease progression between patients with dementia due to AD with visually normal and abnormal EEG recordings. We hypothesized that patients with normal electroencephalographs (EEGs) are a representation of the heterogeneity of AD. We expected this group to have a phenotype with relatively predominant hippocampal atrophy, memory deficits, and a slower disease progression. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Patients were included based on diagnosis of dementia due to AD, positive amyloid and tau cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers, and the availability of EEG recordings. Patients were categorized in groups of normal (N=208) and abnormal (N=336) EEG recordings based on visual assessment by experienced neurophysiologists. At baseline demographics, cognitive, MRI, and CSF measures were compared between groups. Cognitive data from follow-up visits were assessed by linear mixed-effects models (LMMs), and corrected for baseline value, sex, age, and educational level, to compare cognitive deterioration over time between groups. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;About 1 in 4.5 patients with AD dementia had a visually normal EEG and this group showed better overall cognitive performance compared to the abnormal group, where memory was the most prominent affected domain. The results demonstrated that titanium nanotubes promote M2 polarization of macrophages by inhibiting glycolysis and activating the Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway. In general, biofunctionalization titanium with nanotube could inhibit macrophage glycolysis, reduce inflammatory factor release and promote M2 polarization by activating the AMPK signaling pathway. And endothelialization was accelerated in vitro. Our result demonstrated that titanium nanotube could act as a potential approach to biofunctionlize titanium-based prosthetic valves for endothelialization.We report a novel cardiomyopathy associated to Usher syndrome and related to combined mutation of MYO7A and Calreticulin genes. A 37-year-old man with deafness and vision impairment because of retinitis pigmentosa since childhood and a MYO7A gene mutation suggesting Usher syndrome, developed a dilated cardiomyopathy with ventricular tachyarrhythmias and recurrent syncope. At magnetic resonance cardiomyopathy was characterized by left ventricular dilatation with hypo-contractility and mitral prolapse with valve regurgitation. At left ventricular endomyocardial biopsy, it was documented cardiomyocyte disconnection because of cytoskeletal disorganization of cell-to-cell contacts, including intercalated discs, and mitochondrial damage and dysfunction with significant reduction of adenosine triphosphate production in patient cultured fibroblasts. At an extensive analysis by next-generation-sequencing of 4183 genes potentially related to the cardiomyopathy a pathogenic mutation of calreticulin was found. Since then, recent clinical studies tried to mitigate this alarming issue. What is true, what is false? Contrary to some perceptions, the debate is not over yet. Only stronger translational research will allow scientists to provide concrete answers to this public health issue. In this review, we will provide and discuss the more recent data in this field, including the point of view of preclinical researchers, neuropsychologists and pediatric anesthesiologists. Through translational research, preclinical researchers have more than ever a role to play to better understand and identify long-term effects of general anesthesia for pediatric surgery on brain development in order to minimize it. &lt;br&gt;
 Physalis angulata is an herb found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world; it is widely applied in popular medicine due to the therapeutic properties of the whole plant and its parts. Extracts and infusions of this plant have been extensively applied in folk medicine worldwide to treat inflammatory and immune-mediated diseases, including oral inflammatory conditions such as sore throat and gingivitis. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The present study was designed to investigate the protective effects of the ethanolic extract of P. angulata (EEPA) in a murine model of chronic periodontitis, aiming to corroborate its traditional use as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent, and to point out possible mechanisms involved in these effects. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;EEPA was obtained from the stems of P. angulata collected in Belém (PA, Brazil). Chronic periodontitis was induced in male C57BL/6 mice by 12 administrations of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 20 μg/1μL) into the gingival papilla in the course of 28 days. Starting from the 15 &lt;br&gt;
 day after the. No hematological or biochemical alterations were caused by the daily treatment with EEPA. In vitro luciferase assay suggested that a putative mechanism of EEPA is reducing the transcriptional activity of NF-κB. &lt;/p&gt;

 Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignant disease of the endocrine system. Based on the previously published reports, the incidence of TC has been increasing in the past 25 years, and the reason for the increase is not yet clear. The present study aims to reveal the long-term trends and age-period-cohort effects for the incidence of TC in China and the U.S. from 1990 to 2017. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We examined the trends of TC incidence and the average annual percentage change (AAPC) of rate using the Joinpoint regression analysis in the two countries, for the different genders (men/women) in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD 2017). We further used an age-period-cohort model to analyze age-period-cohort effects on TC incidence. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The ASIR of China increased markedly with AAPC of 4.5% (95% confidence interval (CI) 4.0, 5.0%) and 1.8% (1.6, 2.0%) for men and women during 1990-2017. The ASIR of the U. &lt;p&gt;We performed a large population-based case-control study of 1418 ESCC cases and 1992 controls in a high-risk area of China. Information on potential risk factors was collected via face-to-face interview using an electronic structured questionnaire. Previous studies showed that the expression of proteins belonging to the microbial heat shock protein (HSP) family is upregulated during infection and also during various stress stimuli. Several proteins of this family are known to have important roles in the infectious processes in other bacteria, but the role of HSPs in Leptospira spp. is poorly understood. In this study, we have evaluated the capacity of the protein GroEL, a member of HSP family, of interacting with host proteins and of stimulating the production of cytokines by macrophages. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The binding experiments demonstrated that the recombinant GroEL protein showed interaction with several host components in a dose-dependent manner. It was also observed that GroEL is a surface protein, and it is secreted extracellularly. Moreover, two cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6) were produced when macrophages cells were stimulated with this protein. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Our findings showed that GroEL protein may contribute to the adhesion of leptospires to host tissues and stimulate the production of proinflammatory cytokines during infection.  Pseudomyopia is caused by increased refractive power by ciliary muscle spasm. Most patients cannot overcome pseudomyopia spontaneously; therefore, treatment of pseudomyopia is fastidious and needs a multidisciplinary approach. We report a case of unusual pseudomyopia with paradoxical accommodation, straining eyes to induce emmetropia at far distance and relaxing eyes to focus at near objects, contrary to physiological accommodation. &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A 33-year-old woman experienced intermittent distant vision discomfort. This occurred at least a few hundred times daily. She could see near objects clearly; however, distant objects could be seen clearly only when she strained her eyes. Uncorrected distance visual acuity was 20/20 and manifest refraction (MR) in both eyes in the relaxed state was approximately - 2.5 D. MR changed to approximately - 0.5 D when she grimaced and strained her eyes when attempting to focus on distant letters. Her response was contrary to the physiological accommodative response. Cycloplegic refrac should be considered. &lt;br&gt;
We report a rare case with reverse of physiological accommodative response. When patients complain of unusual distant visual discomfort, pseudomyopia with paradoxical accommodation should be considered. &lt;br&gt;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;The organics (C) and nitrogenous (N) pollutants removal paths by functional units in vegetation-activated sludge process (V-ASP) were investigated by using stable isotope probing and high-throughput sequencing for the first time. V-ASP system displayed superior treatment performance compared to conventional activated sludge system, as manifested by its greater C and N removal efficiencies, higher abundance of denitrifying and heterotrophic functional Genus, and better resistance to low temperature. Isotope δ13C and δ15N were continuously accumulated in plant roots allocated in the V-ASP, where suspended sludge demonstrated obviously higher C and N enrichment rates compared to the rhizosphere sludge. The mass balance estimation showed that bacterial dissimilation was the dominant removal paths for C (54.13%) and N (47.53%). The underlying pollutants removal paths evidenced the advantageous of V-ASP that is a high feasible and promising approach for decentralized wastewater treatment process.Aging is inevitable when biochar uses for remediate Cadmium (Cd) pollution, but the variation of adsorption mechanism remains unclear. This study uses ramie residue to prepare fresh biochar, and adopt it with acidification and oxidation to simulate the aging process. The difference of physicochemical properties between fresh and aged biochar are studied through microstructure. Then, two kinds of biochar are making adsorption experiments in Cd solution for analyzing their adsorption mechanism. The results show that, both chemisorption and physisorption are exist, chemisorption and physisorption is the predominant way of fresh biochar and aged biochar respectively. Cation exchange is important but weaker in aged biochar than fresh biochar. Carboxyl plays a leading role in complexation of fresh biochar and hydroxy in aged biochar. Coprecipitation and cation-π mechanism impair apparently in aged biochar. This study indicates that aging change ramie biochar's main adsorption mechanism and the primary chemisorption way.The performance stability and its recovery mechanisms of a partial nitritation-anammox process were investigated. A one-stage airlift enhanced micro-granules (AEM) system was operated for 650 days continuously to treat 50 mg-NH4/L wastewater. During the stable stage, a high nitrogen removal efficiency of 72.7 ± 8.4% lasting for 230 days was successfully achieved under 0.28 L/min aeration rate and 0.10-0.20 mg/L dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration. A microbial consortium with good granularity appeared in red. The specific activity of anammox and ammonia oxidation increased to 1.02 and 0.93 g-N/g-VSS/d, respectively. Meanwhile, the microbial analysis showed the AEM system shifted the dominant microflora from Proteobacteria to Planctomycetes in which Candidatus Brocadia abundance reached a high of 35.0%.
