Feel the energy of the crowd? Like you're there with them? It's not just because the players are entertaining - its because these hacks are intensely fun. You will suffer, yes. But you will triumph more than you can imagine if you persevere.

To Play a Hack

A legitimate copy of SMW must be owned. You use a simple tool called an IPS Patcher found at the same place the hacks are: SMWCentral. Download one, unzip, and the patcher will apply the changes to the original game. Easy as pie, and plenty of tutorials exist to teach it. You also need an emulator.

Use Mesen-S¹

"Kaizo"

If you're not familiar with the phrase, you soon will be. The phrase for difficult SMW hacks is a Kaizo Game". It means difficult to the western world, but rearranged to the native tongue of Japanese.

How Is This Possible?

Mostly through the help of a program called Lunar Magic. It's a level editor, map editor...

A beautiful site SMWDB was made as a mirror that stored all hacks from Central, but it shut down (or went into maintenance mode) in late 2021, but luckily an intrepid soul gave us...

In the days of yore lived a man, his real name, lost to time. The nom-de-lude (coined that just now. It's a synonym for 'handle', but specific to game developers!) That name - is zep. It is with certainty that it shall go down in the hidden histories as both brilliant and beastly, for he developed the very craft I bring before you today:

The Fantasy Console

It is a door that once unlocked, can never be barred again. It has a will all its own, and that will is of a power unseen in all of mankind's epoch. It will possess you, take hold of your mind, and force you to produce the most devious little trinkets to ever have been tinkered - cartridges without physical form.

That's right. They take no corporeal state, yet see here, if you have the stones.

- 2 beginners, 2 intermediates, and 2 expert level games will be taught, from beginning to end.
- The order is important, even if you're experienced. So don't skip around. I'll know.
Lessons and Lectures
- These are chapters that focus on 1 central topic, generally to ready you for upcoming content.
- I don't want you to be copy pasting, I want my reader to grasp and understand the darkness within them.
- These chapters are my favorite part of the book, and I think you will like them too.

The guy asked for people to submit domain names they own that they just aren't doing anything with. I own about 100, so I gave him 3.

These were his recommendations.

pxl.monster - You take any image and turn it into one gigantic pixel. It is useful for finding the average colour in an image. It has a second mode where users can decide how many colours they would like extracting from the image (2 to 100) and it then creates a palette for them based on colour frequency.
devdo.me - you play with ancient and dead (or nearly dead) programming languages to see what you can create and learn from them. It is a play on "DoDo" being extinct so is pronounced "Dev Doh".
gamefight.me - a bot scours twitter looking for people who use the words "fight me bro" or "come at me bro". At that point it invites all the people in that conversation to a fighting game. Like Street Fighter but every attack is an insult. At the end of the fight someone is crowned the winner and then you remind them that it is only the internet and there is no need to be salty.

What a wonderful, creative individual we have.

Well, looks like I've got my work cut out for me.
I think I'll tackle these (or a variation on them) in a series of posts right here on dev.to!

As for what I had planned:

pxl.monster - A site similar to the SCP wiki where users create an entry in the database using a built in sprite editor, write up an entry and boom. Pixel horror.
devdo.me - I read this as "Dev Dome", and it would be a place for me to write my bloggings about programming.
gamefight.me - This was going to be a big one where I troll the big game databases, and when a visitor comes to the site they are presented with a "VS" screen.
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night VS Super Mario 64.
- Whoever wins the bout gains a point, and a ranking board starts to form.

Our ideas aren't incompatible. Especially devdo.me. If you wanna help make any, get in touch!

Together, with powers combined, I think I can pull something awesome out of some or all of these ideas.

The Next Steps

This is the first post in a series of what will become a journey of website development just for the fun of it. I want to teach those who want to learn more, including myself, and so - we will venture together on this journey.

Hello! My name is Vee, the one and only employee of iiviiGames.

While I work out the kinks in my website, I'm going to start posting a series of tutorials I've been writing for years on here.

See, to understand a topic better, I often write myself a tutorial.

That may sound bizarre, but when you don't have the money for school, and find the nature of a student/teacher relationship very helpful, you fill in that blank yourself.

What are these tutorials about?

Well, they're about a lot of things. Mainly game development, but some are about general concepts in programming, like object-oriented, classes, inheritance, and a bunch of language specific quirks to different engines and paradigms.

Let's talk Language

I'm going to teach you a lot about GameMaker Studio, Pico-8, and Love2D.

I'm also going to teach you a lot about Python and Javascript, as well as a handful of weirder or lesser known frameworks like Ink, Twine, and Amulet.
