This was a change for me because I did not have a background in IT. It has been very tough, but very rewarding.<br> Having sat on the idea for a couple of years as i was pursuing other interests, i finally locked in and decided to take on this interesting path.</p> <p>To be honest it is not easy.</p> <p>Every day I have to learn things like Linux commands, PostgreSQL databases and how to use remote servers. I have to understand things like schemas, users, permissions and SQL queries. It feels like I am learning a new language.</p> <p>There are times when I have to go and look at my notes and search for help and try things many times before I understand them. It is hard to switch from a non-technical job to a technical one.</p> <p>Even with all the challenges it feels great to learn something new that I really like.</p> <p>When I finally understand something, like a Linux command or a SQL query it feels amazing. Every time I finish any assignment I feel like I have accomplished something. At first it all seems complicated but it is getting easier because I am practicing every day(well almost😁) and I am curious about it.</p> <p>From the assignments issued so far, I have learned how to:</p> <p>• Connect to remote Linux servers using SSH</p> <p>• Create and manage Linux users and permissions</p> <p>• Set up PostgreSQL databases</p> <p>• Make databases, users, schemas and tables</p> <p>• Use SQL to look at datasets</p> <p>• Connect PostgreSQL databases, to DBeaver</p> <p>• Understand how data works in the world(Tutors sharing their vast experiences!)</p> <p>One of the important things I have learned is that you do not grow when things are easy. You grow when you are willing to try things make mistakes ask questions and keep going.</p> <p>I did not come from the IT industry. I have learned that where you start does not matter. What matters is that you want to learn and get better every day.</p> <p>As I keep going on this journey I ask myself:</p> <h3> Can You Change Your Career Path? </h3> <p>For me the answer is <strong><em>HELL YEAH</em></strong>!.</p> <p>It may be hard. It may take time to learn. The words and terms may seem strange at first..
