Git Command Alias

💡 Shorten long git commands with aliases:-

You can add aliases to your git commands as we do for Linux commands.

You can do it for git commands by adding [alias] section to .gitconfig file.

[alias]

ca = commit -a -m

lol = log --graph --decorate --pretty=oneline --abbrev-commit

For Example:
git ca "This is a test commit."

Git Commit ID Explained.

Ever wondered about a Git Commit ID ?
(A super long SHA1 Hash String 😅)

A Git commit ID is an SHA-1 hash of every important thing about the commit.

It stores :

The content of commit as a BLOB.

Commit date.

Committer's name and email address.

Log message.

The ID of the previous commit(s).

Try it out to find more information about a Git Commit ID.

$ git cat-file commit <commit_id>

Git Every Day!

Hi Devs!

I'm starting a daily dose series for git (version control system).

A simple git command or trick or a small article for git terminology per day.

Dose :

Try out the following command to see the abbreviated log and graph for your git repository.

git log --oneline --graph

"What are the special flags do you use with
git log
command ?"
