Disclosure: this post is from the AI Room Design product team and was prepared with AI assistance.

Photo-to-room generators produce persuasive images. A useful review process needs more than asking whether the result looks attractive. The input image is also the reference for constraints that a generated concept may change.

 Separate the tasks before generation

A furnished room and an empty room are different inputs. Redesigning an existing room asks the model to reinterpret furniture and decoration. Virtual staging asks it to add furnishings where there are none. Make that choice explicit in the interface instead of hiding it in a generic prompt.

The same applies to room type and style. A bedroom task has a different purpose from a home office. A controlled style list makes it easier to compare outputs without also changing the wording of an open-ended prompt.

 Keep the original available

An original/result comparison is a practical review control. Look at window placement, doors, floor edges and the visible room geometry. Then check the generated furniture for plausible scale and usable circulation. A beautiful output with a blocked doorway is still a failed concept for that input.

A simple manual review checklist can be kept with the downloaded image:

Does the result preserve the visible openings?

Is the floor and room boundary still recognizable?

Are paths through the room plausible?

Is any important detail ambiguous or invented?

State what the output is for

A photo-based concept is not a measured floor plan. It cannot establish furniture dimensions, material quantities or construction feasibility. Presenting that distinction beside the result gives the user a useful next step: verify measurements and discuss the direction with a qualified professional.

AI Room Design uses a browser workflow for room redesign and empty-room staging, with four room types and six styles. Users can compare the original and generated images and download a result. The review principles above apply to the output before it is shared or used to plan a purchase.

The goal of the checklist is to preserve the difference between exploring a visual direction and approving a real-world plan.
