This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend

 What We Built

Leopard Care is a mobile caregiving app that connects one patient with up to three caregivers (family members, friends, or other loved ones). It allows the caregiver to remind the patient about appointments, medications and daily tasks. The patient taps one button to say "done," and if they don't, their caregivers are alerted automatically.

We built Leopard Care for our grandma, who takes several medications and likes her independence. Our family couldn't be with her all day, and we kept calling to ask if she'd taken her pills or eaten. Now she gets gentle reminders, and we find out right away if something's missed.

Leopard Care has a simple setup: the patient adds caregivers by phone number. Each caregiver gets a text, signs up with their email, and is linked to the patient's profile. Leopard Care gives the patient wake-up and bedtime announcements, plus optional check-ins (for example, once an hour), shown as large, clear notifications. Leopard Care also allows the caregivers to turn a patient's complex daily routine into a manageable checklist with time, date and notes. The patient taps a button to mark a task done. If they don't, caregivers are alerted and the item is added to the imminent notifications list. Leopard Care also allows for worry-free medication tracking. One section tracks what's in stock and what needs restocking, with a buy link when supply runs low. A second section tracks when each medication should be taken. Leopard Care also tracks whether the patient's low phone battery and medical devices need attention. The whole app is organized into four tabs: Home Page, Schedule, Notifications, Profile. All the features are provided in one app, and the patient can use one tap to call or message a caregiver.

Patients get a simple daily checklist they can hear read aloud; caregivers get a
live view of how the day is going, for every patient they support.

View on GitHub

 How I Built It

We built Leopard Care with three tools. We designed the app's screens in Superdesign, an open-source AI design tool, using one detailed prompt that covered the core screens (Home, Schedule, Notifications, Profile) so the look stayed consistent. We then refined with short follow-up edits using GitHub Copilot. We used Gemma, Google's open-weights model, to turn my mind map into the MVP plan that guided the build. For the voice, we used ElevenLabs to power an assistant that helps with daily tasks by reading each task out loud when it is due, so my grandma doesn't have to look at her phone to know what comes next.

 Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Leopard Care deals with medication lists and daily routines, so families have to be able to trust it. This is why open innovation matters for Leopard Care in four ways. First, the logic that decides when a family gets alerted can be read, tested and fixed, whereas a closed platform would ask families to take a vendor's word for it. Second, there is no lock-in for something people depend on. A missed reminder can mean a missed dose, and if a closed vendor changed its pricing or shut down, a caregiving app built on it could break overnight, while open components can be kept running or swapped out. Third, open tools let us design and build quickly without a large budget, which matters because many patients and families live on limited incomes. Finally, patients differ in language, vision and routine, and open tools let us adjust the design and behavior ourselves instead of waiting for a vendor's roadmap.

 My Agent Session

I logged into DEV and want to make sure DevRelay is set up for a project submission.

DevRelay is installed, but it still needs to be connected to your account before it can submit a session.

I want to use submit_agent_session for the DEV post about the hackathon submission; please give me the link.

This transcript is being submitted so it can be linked from a DEV post. The actual hackathon project submission still needs to follow the official event template and submission portal.

4 of 4 messages

These are the partner categories that we are entering into:

Best Use of Gemma

Best Use of ElevenLabs

Best Use of GitHub Copilot
