BUILD A FUNCTION APP CALCULATOR WITH AZURE

Click on Create to create a new function app

Fill in the details in the next tab and click on Review + Create.

Once it's done deploying, you should click on Go to resource

Open your Visual studio and click on New to open a new project.

Select Azure functions and click on continue

Select Http trigger, you can leave your runtime on .Net6.0, give your function a name and click on continue.

Your function name automatically comes as your project name in the next tab but you can change it if you want to. You can change the location or leave it on default. If you have version control you can check the version control box and click on create

Once it opens the code, on line 13 and 15 change the public static class and functionName to Sum because we want to deal with addition as a sample.

From line 22 to 30, let's take out everything there.

Copy and paste this code from line 22 int x = int.Parse(req.Query["x"]); int y = int.Parse(req.Query["y"]); int result = x + y;

and on line 26, change the responsemessage to result

Go to your task bar and click on Build the Build solution

Once it's done building, it will show you succeeded

Go to Build again but this time click on Publish to Azure

Link your Azure account to it and click on Publish

Go back to Azure and go to your function app overview and click on Refresh

What we created in visual studio will appear in the functions tab, click it to open.

Click on Get function URL

Copy the URL and open a new windows tab to paste it.

When you paste the URL and add any number to this code in front of the URL to test our Http calculator. &y=10&x=10 this is my own number I am adding

And there you go. It works!

UPDATE AND REDEPLOY THE APP IN AZURE

In cloud shell type vim index.html to open text editor and click enter

Locate hi heading tag and remove everything after the Azure App Service

Remember you have to be in insert mode to edit text in vim. So click I on the keyboard and delete everything after Azure App Service. To exit vim text editor, press ESC key + shift:wq

Use the up arrow key to get your commands back. In my case this is my command az webapp up --location centralus --name nifemi --html and hit enter.

Copy your URL and test it.

CREATE A STATIC HTML WEB APP BY USING AZURE CLOUD SHELL

Create a directory and give it a name and cd into the directory.

mkdir (directoryname)
cd (directoryname)

clone your repository. git clone *repository* and press enter

CREATE A WEB APP
cd into the location where the app is from.
In my case, it's cd html-docs-hello-world

Run the command az to build our web app

And your static web app is created. You can copy the URL to test it.

CREATE AND CONFIGURE AN AZURE FILE SHARE

Under data storage in the left pan click on file shares

Click + file share and create a file share

Give your file a global Azure name and click on create.

After the file share is created, click on it

Click on Connect

Copy the script

Go to smart search engine in Azure, search and select virtual machines.

Select your virtual machine

Under operations in the left pan, click on Run command

Next, click on RunPowerShellScript

Paste in the script you copied earlier and click Run

Replace the PowershellScript and click on run

Return to the file shares blade to verify the new folder and file were created.

MANAGE AUTHENTICATION AND AUTHORIZATION AZURE STORAGE

Copy your blob URL

Open your browser and paste the URL in the web search bar. You will get an error because the container's public access is set to private.

Close your browser and go back to your Azure portal and click on Generate SAS

Scroll down and click on the start date to update it then click on Generate SAS token and URL

Scroll down and copy the Blob SAS URL

Open a new browser and paste the URL you just copied and click enter.

The newly generated SAS token grant you access to the file. You can open the file to view it

Go back to your Azure portal and to the container page. click on Azure AD user account.

An error will appear because you do not have permission to change the authentication method. Click Access control (IAM) in the left pan.

Then click Add role assignment

Search for storage blob data owner and click next

Click on select member

Search for and select your username. Take your arrow key down and click on select.

Click review and assign

Once the role is assigned, go to the left pan and click Overview

Click switch to Azure AD User Account to verify you can change the authentication method

HOW TO UPLOAD AND MANAGE BLOBS IN AZURE

Navigate to the created storage account: Go to your Azure Dashboard and locate the newly created storage account. Click on the storage account, then navigate to the "Blob service" section.
Create containers: Within the Blob service, create containers to organize your blobs. Containers are similar to folders.

Click on the "+ Container" button and provide a unique name for your container.

Name: Enter a name for your container. The name must be unique within the Azure storage account.
The name can contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
The name must begin with a letter or a number.
The minimum length for the name is three characters.
The maximum length for the name is 63 characters.
Anonymous access level: The access level specifies whether the container and its blobs can be accessed publicly. By default, container data is private and visible only to the account owner. There are three access level choices:
Private: (Default) Prohibit anonymous access to the container and blobs.
Blob: Allow anonymous public read access for the blobs only.
Container: Allow anonymous public read and list access to the entire container, including the blobs.

Double click on the name of your container

Upload Blob:

Click on the "Upload" button within the container.

Choose the file or files you want to upload and follow the prompts to upload them to the container and click on create.

And what you uploaded will be in the container you created

Create a storage account using Azure portal

Sign in to the Azure portal
On the resource menu, or from the Home page, select Storage accounts. The Storage accounts pane appears.
On the command bar, select Create. The Create a storage account pane appears.
On the Basics tab, enter the following values for each setting.

Subscription : Pick your subscription

Resource group: Select a resource group if you have one. But if you don't, you can create one.

Storage account name: Give your storage an Azure global name.

Region: Select a region

Performance: Standard option decides the type of disk storage used to hold the data in the Storage account. Standard uses traditional hard disks, and Premium uses solid-state drives (SSD) for faster access. Choose the one that is best suited for your project.

Redundancy: Select Locally redundant storage (LRS) from the dropdown list.

Select Next : Advanced. On the Advanced tab, enter the following values for each setting.

Require secure transfer for REST API operations: Check this. This setting controls whether HTTP can be used for the REST APIs that access data in the storage account. Setting this option to enable forces all clients to use HTTPS. Most of the time, you want to set secure transfer to enable; using HTTPS over the network is considered a best practice.

Allow enabling anonymous access on individual containers: Check this. Blob containers, by default, don't permit anonymous access to their content. This setting allows authorized users to selectively enable anonymous access on specific containers.

Enable storage account key access: Check this. We want to allow clients to access data via SAS.

Default to Microsoft Entra authorization in the Azure portal: Uncheck this. Clients are public, not part of an Active Directory.

Minimum TLS version: Select Version 1.2 from dropdown list. TLS 1.2 is a secure version of TLS, and Azure Storage uses it on public HTTPS endpoints. TLS 1.1 and 1.0 are supported for backwards compatibility.

Permitted scope for copy operations: Accept default

Enable hierarchical namespace: Uncheck. Data Lake hierarchical namespace is for big-data applications that aren't relevant to this module.

Enable hierarchical namespace: Accept default. Blob and Data Lake Gen2 endpoints are provisioned by default.

Blob storage
Allow cross-tenant replication: You can uncheck this.

Access tier: Hot. This setting is only used for Blob storage. The Hot access tier is ideal for frequently accessed data; the Cool access tier is better for infrequently accessed data. This setting only sets the default value. When you create a Blob, you can set a different value for the data.

Azure Files
Enable large file shares: Uncheck. Large file shares provide support up to a 100 TiB, however this type of storage account can't convert to a Geo-redundant storage offering, and upgrades are permanent.

Select Next : Networking. On the Networking tab, enter the following values for each setting.

Network connectivity

Network access: Enable public access from all networks. We want to allow public Internet access. Our content is public facing, and we need to allow access from public clients.

Network routing

Routing preference: Microsoft network routing. We want to make use of the Microsoft global network that is optimized for low-latency path selection.

Select Next : Data protection. On the Data protection tab, enter the following values for each setting.

Enable point-in-time restore for containers: Uncheck.

Enable soft delete for blobs: Uncheck. Soft delete lets you recover blob data in cases where blobs or blob snapshots are deleted accidentally or overwritten.

Enable soft delete for containers: Uncheck. Soft delete lets you recover your containers that are deleted accidentally.

Enable soft delete for file shares: Uncheck. File share soft delete lets you recover your accidentally deleted file share data more easily.

Tracking
Enable versioning for blobs: Uncheck.

Enable blob change feed: Uncheck.

Access control
Enable version-level immutability support: Uncheck.

Select Next: Encryption. Accept the defaults.
Select Next: Tags. Here, you can associate key/value pairs with the account for your categorization to determine if a feature is available to selected Azure resources.
Select Next: Review to validate your options and to ensure all the required fields are selected. If there are issues, this tab identifies them so you can correct them.
When validation passes successfully, select Create to deploy the storage account.
When deployment is complete, which may take up to two minutes, select Go to resource to view Essential details about your new storage account.

DEPLOY A LINUX CUSTOM TEMPLATE (ARM)

Step 1: Search for "Deploy a custom template" in the smart search bar, click on it to open.

Step 2: After the custom deployment tab opens, click on "Create a linux virtual machine"

Step 3: Fill in the details required

Resource group
Region
Vm name
Admin username
Leave the authentication type on password
Admin password or key

leave the rest on default, click on review and create

Step 4: After the deployment is complete, cilck on got to my resource group

Step 5: As you can see, all the resources has been created for you all you need to do is click on "simplelinuxVM"

Step 6: Click on connect

Step 7: Click on select in the recommended bar

Step 8: A new tab will open on the side, click on configure + connect

And you are good to go! Your cloud shell tab will open and you will get a welcome message.

ADD A DISK, INITIALIZE IT AND MAKE IT USEABLE IN AZURE

Step 1: After you have launched your virtual machine, come back to your Azure portal and click on DISK

Step 2: Scroll down and click on create and attach a new disk

Step 3: A new pop up shows just below it. fill in the details. Your disk name, the storage type you want, and the size of the disk you want to create.

Step 4: Connect back to your virtual machine

Step 5: After your virtual machine is done loading, go to the search bar and search for Disk management and click on Create and format hard disk partition

Step 6: a new tab opens up. scroll down, you will see Disk 2, right click on it and click Simple new volume.

Step 7: Follow the installation process by clicking Next

Step 8: When you get to the Format partition tab, you select how you want your disk to be formatted

Step 9: You click on Finish and you are done

To check if the disk is installed and ready to use, go to This PC on your system, you will see it mounted.

Note: You can give you disk a name when you are mounting it. Mine is showing new volume because I skipped that process.

CREATE IoT HUB TO CONNECT TO AN IOT DEVICE USING RASPBERRY PI SIMULATOR

STEP 1: In the smart search box, type IOT HUB and click on the grayed area which is highlighted.

STEP 2: click on create and you will be directed to a new tab

STEP 3: Fill the descriptions in the tab.

Resource group: If you don't have one you can create a new one but if you do have one, just select your resource group in the resource group tab.
IoT hub name: Give your IoT hub a name that is okay with you.
Region: Select a region that you want. remember to put cost in place when doing this.

then click on review + create. You wait for it to deploy

STEP 4: Open google and search for https://azure-samples.github.io/ A raspberry pi Azure simulator will open for you.

STEP 5: After it's done deploying, click on go to resource

STEP 6: Click on device

STEP 7: For you to create a new device, click on add device

STEP 8: Just give a name to your device ID and leave the rest on default and click on save.

STEP 9: Check the box and click on your device name

STEP 10: scroll down to Primary connection string and copy the key.

The primary connection string is a string of characters or text used to establish a connection to a database or other networked service. It contains information that allows a client application or program to connect to the service.

Step 11: Go to your raspberry pi simulator page, on line 15, clear what you see inside the quotes and just leave the quotes sign. then paste your primary connection string inside the quotes.

STEP 12: Click run. when you do, you wil notice the simulator blinking, it means it has started working and sending messages.

To check if it is sending messages, go back to your Azure tab and click on devices.

Click on overview

Scroll down and check IoT Hub usage box and look at the messages used today, you will notice it keeps increasing.

Dissociate An Azure IP Address

Step 1: After creating your virtual machine in Azure, click on stop and click on yes.

Step 2: Go to your search resources, services and docs field and type PUBLIC IP ADDRESSES and click on the grayed box

Step 3: Go to the name of the Virtual machine you created and you will see IP along with the name, click on it.

Step 4: Click on dissociate and click on yes.

How To Create A Virtual Machine On Azure Portal

Step 1: Log in to portal.azure.com

Step 2: On the search researches,services and docs field, search for virtual machines. Select the grayed option and click enter and it will take you to the virtual machine's page.

Step 3: On the virtual machine's page click on +create

Step 4: On the basics tab, fill out your project details

Your project details has two basic components to it. Your subscription and your resource group.

Azure subscription: Provides you with authenticated and authorized access to Azure accounts
Azure resource group: It is a container to manage and aggregate resources in a single unit. It holds all your things for a specific project.

Step 5: Fill out your instance details.

Virtual machine name: It's a text-based label or title that helps you distinguish one virtual machine from another within a virtualization or cloud computing environment.
Region: a region refers to a geographical area or location where Microsoft has data centers.
Availability options: refer to the various strategies and technologies used to ensure the availability and reliability of IT systems, services, and data.
Availability zones: are a way for cloud providers to make their services more reliable and resilient. They do this by creating separate clusters of data centers within a region, so if one cluster has problems, the others can step in to keep things running smoothly.
Security type: refers to the method or protocol used to secure and protect data, systems, networks, or communications.
Image: typically refers to a pre-configured virtual machine (VM) or server template that contains a snapshot of an operating system, applications, and configurations.
VM architecture: This is the underlying structure and components that make up a virtualized computing environment.
Size: typically refers to the specification or configuration of various Azure resources, such as virtual machines, storage accounts, and databases.

Step 6: Put in your username and password and confirm your password in your administrator account details.

Step 7: Fill in the Inbound port rules details.

Public inbound ports: refers to a network port on a computer or device that is accessible from the internet or an external network.

You select your inbound port.
I selected RDP(3389)

Step 8: You scroll back to the top and select monitoring, it will take you to the monitoring page

Step 9: In the monitoring page, go to diagnostics and click on disable to avoid monitoring.

Step 10: Click on review + create. After it's done reviewing you click create.

Step 11: After the virtual machine is done deploying, you will click on connect at the top

Step 12: On the next tab, scroll down and in the Native RDP box, click on select.

Step 13: A pop up will appear on your right, on that pop up, click on DOWNLOAD RDP FILE and you are set.

Step 14: Go to your download folder and click to open the RDP file that has just being downloaded and put in the Username and Password you used in opening your virtual machine

And you are good to go!
