Lately, I've been stumbling with a lot of videos and posts with a lot of hints for people who are new into the IT world. In the sea of advices, one that is most common is "to find a mentor" in the area that you want to specialize or are interested into follow.

It is know that the Technology and Development world is a myriad of paths that sometimes can lead to a a feeling of traveling to nothing. And I think that the advice of having a mentor is a the most important one.

A lot of great communities like dev.to where built with a purpose of sharing and reduce the gap of knowledge in those paths, put i still struggle about the essence of finding mentorship. In those resources/channels telling new people in IT to "find a mentor", they abstract the journey to actually finding one.

With all of that said, I would like to know about you, have you ever had a mentor or a person that you look as a role model in the IT world? And how you managed to find that/those person(s)? Do you have any real advice about the approach with those persons?
