This truly is the ultimate beginners guide to linux and there is written a well constructed guide book in which the author has described the term linux and inside this guide book mentioned installation, configuration and command line basics and it provides an overall description to Linux with some explanations of the kernel and the various distributions. and i recommend it as a book to provide a basis for further explorations into Linux and It doesn't really go into detail about what each technical term means or the processes behind them, but that kind of detail can confuse beginners and after reading this book I at least know of the terms and what they are meant to do and i would say you need some basic knowledge of electronics, like the different name and function of computer parts, in order to understand the book.

Excellent resource for setting up clustered CentOS systems. Key topics like failover, fencing, HAC, HPC, and performance monitoring. I was able to easily extend the instructions covered to a four node cluster rather than the two node cluster covered in the book. All-in-all the best resource I've found yet for how to configure clustering on CentOS. Highly recommended.

Well this book will get you up and running, but in no way will it allow you to set up a web server for use to host multiple domains, users and e-mail. Fox example, there is no coverage of setting up Postfix and Dovecot to work with virtual domains and e-mail accounts through mysql or how to add a web based e-mail interface to your Postfix/Dovecot/mysql e-mail system. If you are hosting your own DNS, the author spends a lot of time on a caching DNS server in addition to BIND, and I found that I removed this to better fit my needs. I think it is very good as far as a framework to set up your server, especially if you want to avoid a "canned" web panel from a third party and learn how to run a web server from the command line interface. So if you use this book, just be aware that you will run into situations for your needs not covered in the book and then will have to rely on your experience or Google search for the solution to what you want to accomplish to meet your goals. But you will learn to be competent at the command line interface and understand the locations of configuration files and how to save and edit them to fit your needs.

Most websites on the internet are powered by a CentOS server. CentOS is a very popular and lightweight version of Linux with a ten year support cycle. Due to the strong response from my first book on the topic, Learning Ubuntu, I decided to release another title. Learning CentOS, starts at the basics and provides three options to get started with the operating system. The reader will learn how to use SSH, setup a server on a VPS or Virtual Machine, install the popular LAMP stack for web servers, and will also learn how to install the most popular content management platform, WordPress, towards the end of the book. We start by learning how to install packages, manage users, and navigating our CentOS server by the CLI or Command Line Interface. If you are looking for a new skill or want to expand upon your current knowledge, this book serves as a great tool to get started and reference down the road. Topics Include: What is Linux and CentOS 7? Methods to Install CentOS 7 and Get Started. Setting Up CentOS on a Virtual Private Server (DigitalOcean or Linode) Setting Up CentOS on a Virtual Machine Using (Oracle VirtualBox) Installing CentOS on a Virtual Machine Getting Familiar with the Command Line Interface or CLI Logging into CentOS and Learning General System Navigation Creating New Users Checking System Resource Status Making Directories and Files Editing, Moving, Copying, and Deleting Files Installing LAMP (Apache, MySQL/MariaSQL, PHP) Installing Sendmail Managing the Server from the Browser Permission Settings, Groups, and Types Adding a Database Installing Packages Setting Up and Configuring WordPress Understanding wget and rsync Changing File and Directory Ownership and Permission Settings

CentOS is just like Red Hat, but without the price tag and with the virtuous license. When belts have to be tightened, we want to read about an OS with all the features of a commercial Linux variety, but without the pain. The Definitive Guide to CentOS is the first definitive reference for CentOS and focuses on CentOS alone, the workhorse Linux distribution, that does the heavy lifting in small and medium-size enterprises without drawing too much attention to itself.

 Cisco Certification Books

If you’re working toward your CCNA certification, you’ll probably want to review some CCNA books that can help you learn the material before your exam.

If you are looking for a book that will be able to teach you the who, what, where, when, and how of network administration, go through this list of Cisco certification books for the networking professional.

We’ve put together a list of the 10 best CCNA exam preparation books to help you become increasingly proficient in the knowledge areas that will appear on the CCNA exam.

 1.CCENT/CCNA ICND1 100-105 Official Cert Guide 1st Edition

 Author: Wendell Odom

Publisher: Cisco Press; 1 edition (May 27, 2016)

View on Amazon →

The Good:
Content: If you have just finished Cisco's Networking Academy and are preparing for the test, you need this book! As many of you NetAcad students already know, the NetAcad material can be long winded and dry. The Official Cert Guide is SO refreshing after NetAcad. The content of this book is clear and concise. A topic that would take 100 pages to explain in Net Acad is explained in 20-30 pages in the Official Cert Guide. I sometimes wonder how Wendell Odom does it. How does he compress all that content into just 20-30 pages?!

Simlite: The free version of the simulator that comes with this book is great as well. It focuses mostly on part 2 of the book. One thing that I enjoyed about it is that it supports the show interfaces status command (a command that is not supported in Packet Tracer). At the time of this review, the full simulator is not out (I would buy it if it was). When it does come out, I'd definitely recommend buying it if you want structured labs that go along with the book. The other (more expensive) alternative to buying the simulator is buying real lab equipment. If you plan on just taking the CCNA, then I recommend 3 x 1841 routers (about $65 each) and 2 x 2960 switches (about $75 each). If you plan on also studying the CCNP then 3 x 2811 routers (about $85 each), 2 x 3560's (about $90 each) and 2 x 2960's will work.

Todd's book goes into all the CCNA objectives for ICND1 and ICND2 for 100-105/200-105 exams. I would highly recommend this as a foundation to get the objectives down but keep would recommend secondary sources sources such as YouTube, Lynda.com, free 7 day trial for CBTNuggets (Lazaro Diaz -amazing teacher), and UCertify to branch more into the objectives required to pass the 200-125 exam. Keep in mind that some objectives are not well detailed so again I would suggest using secondary sources for objectives.

His chapters are very well organized. He starts off with the purpose of the concepts as well as going into in hands on CLI demonstrations. At the end of each chapter he will have a summary of what you learned, what you need to know to pass the exam, ten written questions, multiple labs (which can be used with included sim that comes with the book), and 20 review questions. His teaching is easy to understand for those new to networking. Keep in mind he will not go into what is a fiber cable, coax cable, how to crimp network cables, how to use a toner tester or optical refraction test and what is a networking/telecom closet. I would highly recommend studying and passing the Network+ exam first for those who have zero networking enterprise experience beyond setting up a basic home wireless network. This book is strictly for understanding switch and router technology and how to program and troubleshoot them, along with understanding concepts in LANs and WANs. The book will assume you already at the level of Network+. Dont worry about subnetting. His subnetting chapter breaks it down as well. After reading the chapter I am now a subnetting wiz. He even goes into guiding you with mental subnetting examples. For those who have a Lynda account he is also is on Lynda.com only for the ICND1.

This book covers a lot of different Cloud technologies from a Cisco viewpoint. I read the first twelve chapters that cover the Cisco CCNA Intro to Cloud 210-451 exam. I was able to cram for four days, take the exam and pass it. The exam was very hard, but this book covers everything that was in it. I will read the next half of the book for the 210-455 exam. Highly recommend.

Linux is a UNIX-based operating system originally created by Linus Torvalds with the help of developers around the world. Developed under the GNU General Public License, the source code is free. Because of this Linux is viewed by many organizations and companies as an excellent, low-cost, secure alternative to expensive OSs, such as Microsoft Windows. The CompTIA Linux+ exam tests a candidate's understanding and familiarity with the Linux Kernel. As the Linux server market share continues to grow, so too does demand for qualified and certified Linux administrators.

This book provides more than 400 practice questions and answers, more than 120 "flash cards" to help you study for the exam, and 50 step-by-step DB2 feature implementation procedures.

Well well worth the price and then some. Great book if you are already experienced with linux, I've found so many other books to be an extreme bore because they start out with trivial command line basics and linux fundamentals. This books dives right in to more advanced concepts more importantly the objectives covered in the RHCSA. If you are a total linux beginner this is not the book for you, but if you already have a good start and have been doing some administration you will very much enjoy the switch up from the 'every day linux book' to exciting tasks.

While I have found some issues with some of the tasks outlined in the book not going exactly as shown in the examples, I'm not sure if that is intentional or not. It may be totally intentional that some of the tasks do not work as shown to get readers to find the issue themselves. For example in chapter 2 Michael outlines using virt-clone and provides a working example, while the example does clone the VM it does not properly create a new unix socket for the vm or set permissions on vm image, and the selinux contexts must be set as well - without applying these the VM would not start for me. The thing about this is that I very much enjoyed figuring out why the VM would not start on my own and I learned something else out of that exercise besides 'just cloning a virtual machine' .

I like this book a lot! I don’t have much experience with Linux, and I like how the step-by-step exercises guide me through procedures that are new for me.

I also like the additional contents, in particular the virtual machines that allow to get an environment up and running in not too much time. The virtual machines do work, but you should know how to import them in your Vmware environment. The author explains this in one of the videos on his youtube channel.

To be honest: I’m using the authors RHCSA Live lessons video course as well. Together they make a perfect combination for me to prepare myself for RHCSA certification very well. Much MUCH cheaper than following a classroom course.

The information, exercises, and sample tests are everything you need to pass the test. Learn them inside out and backward, and you'll pass.

Not only is this great for passing the test, but Mr. Ghori explains things beautifully clearly and concisely. There were a variety of concepts that I sort of knew beforehand that after reading this book are crystal clear. I also had the previous version of this book, for RHEL5, and found that if I needed really good details on how to do something, I was more likely to find them in this book than anywhere else. I love knowing the details of how things work, and this book provides them.

Bring the frontend and backend together with Vue, Vuex, and Laravel Paperback – December 28, 2017

View on Amazon →

This book does an great job of demonstrating a full stack Vue and Laravel app. I like that the app that you build throughout the book is actually quite realistic and is pretty impressive, unlike other books that make you build some pointless todo app.

In addition to Vue and Laravel, the book does cover a lot of material including Webpack, VueRouter, Vuex, Passport etc, but only really scratches the surface on these. The focus is more on how to use them together in a single app.

My only frustration was having to set up Homestead when I normally use Valet, but it does cover a solid approach to full stack development.

This is the best Laravel book I have come across so far. It assumes you are not a complete beginner; you have to have at least a working understanding of basic programming principals and preferably a bit of PHP experience to get the most out of this book. But if you are in anyway capable at writing even the most basic PHP functions and understand things like arrays and for/while loops you will be well on your way to building your first app with Laravel.

This book is a good introduction to Eloquent. The author does decent job of filling in the gaps of the Laravel documentation. I did find a couple of items for an errata but nothing major and all easy to see what was meant. The English phrasing used did make me smile a few times but the author's English is better than my Italian (by orders of magnitude) so I'm not throwing stones.
