Announcing the Launch of My Personal Website

I’m excited to share that my new personal website, jordantylerburchett.com, is officially live!

The site serves as a central hub for everything I’m working on: my projects, credentials, news, and now, my independent blog. While I’ve previously used Dev.to to share updates and write about my work, I’ve decided to host my blog on my own platform from now on.

This decision comes after a mix of technical limitations and personal experiences on Dev.to that made it difficult to manage my content the way I wanted. A few years ago, I had an unpleasant encounter with a community member who targeted others for their beliefs and backgrounds. Despite multiple reports, the issue was never resolved, and my account visibility was reduced as a result.

Rather than let that experience stop me from sharing, I decided to take a more independent approach where I can write freely, manage my content directly, and maintain full control over my platform.

On my website, you’ll find updates on my projects and what I’m building under eXybit Technologies. It’s a space to share progress, explore new technologies, operating systems, software, and apps, while offering my own thoughts on current tech and my personal ecosystem.

I plan to keep my Dev.to profile online, though I don’t expect to post here often. If you’d like to keep up with what I’m building or explore my latest updates, you can find everything on my website at jordantylerburchett.com.

Happy Venturing!

RefreshOS 1.23 Reaches End of Life

As of today, RefreshOS 1.23 has officially reached its end of support.

Originally built on Kubuntu 22.04 LTS, RefreshOS 1.23 was the final version of the operating system to use a *buntu-based core. With Kubuntu itself reaching the end of its support lifecycle, it’s time for RefreshOS 1.23 to follow suit.

Released as a clean, user-friendly system packed with powerful tools like LibreOffice, GIMP, and Chromium, version 1.23 delivered a modern KDE Plasma desktop experience with seamless cell phone integration and a familiar interface that many users came to love. It marked an important chapter in the history of RefreshOS, but also set the stage for bigger changes.

Since then, RefreshOS has transitioned to Debian Stable as its foundation—beginning with version 2.0 Boundless Beagle and continuing with the latest release, RefreshOS 2.25. These newer versions build upon the user-first principles of 1.23 while delivering greater stability, security, and long-term reliability. With full Qt integration, no Snap or Flatpak bloat, and a focus on clean performance, the new Debian-based core ensures that RefreshOS continues evolving in the right direction.

The RefreshOS 1.23 ISO is no longer available for download, but its archived page and checksums remain accessible on the official website for those who wish to reference it.

To all who used and supported RefreshOS 1.23—thank you. It’s been a great journey, and the future is looking even brighter with RefreshOS 2.25 and beyond.

Archived Page

I'm excited to announce the release of RefreshOS 2.25, an updated version of RefreshOS 2.0 (Boundless Beagle) that brings a more refined experience, better hardware support, and important fixes. This release builds on everything that made RefreshOS great while improving stability and usability.

 What's New in RefreshOS 2.25?

Now Based on Debian 12.10 – Bringing all the latest security updates, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

More Polished GUI – KDE Plasma has been fine-tuned for a smoother, more visually refined experience.

Bug Fixes – Addressed several issues reported by users, making the system even more stable.

Improved User Account Creation – No more setup headaches; the process is now more seamless.

Extended Driver Support – Better out-of-the-box compatibility for more hardware.

As always, RefreshOS sticks to its roots—no Snap, no Flatpak, just a clean, customizable experience. It comes with LibreOffice, GIMP, and Brave Web Browser, making it ready for work or creativity right after installation.

This update makes RefreshOS better than ever, and I’d love for you to check it out!

Download RefreshOS 2.25

Happy Venturing!

I trashed a software website just to reboot it 5 years later!

The Beginning

Since I started into building and programming computers, I’ve loved the concept of free and open source software and I’ve spent a lot of time trying out different ones just to see how they interact, what they can do, and what they can’t. Back in 2011 I felt I had put together a pretty decent list of free software’s that I knew worked well. Playing around one night I decided to build a simple website as a library to display my list more graphically.

The Preparation

I had been building with HTML for almost 6 years at this point and was happy to have another project, but HTML is all I knew and after creating a few download pages one at a time I realized it was going to be a very repetitive and time consuming task and eventually the project got pushed to the side. Not too long after that, I got interested in how to make a search script and stumbled upon a PHP tutorial that broke down MySQL database input and output which opened a whole new world of ideas and possibilities.

PHP intrigued me and after learning more about it, I thought it would be fun to see it in action in a revived software distribution concept I was now calling BlazingSoftware℠. The more I worked on it the more stable and reliable it became, experiencing less and less errors, testing it continuously until April of 2013, it was ready, and I released the first version of BlazingSoftware℠ as a stand alone software library.

The Release

On June 2nd, 2014 I launched my first true online endeavor called Kasic™, which officially adopted BlazingSoftware and premiered it as a subsidiary in its grand opening release. Over the next 5 years BlazingSoftware℠ grew stronger, becoming a pretty steady platform for PHP / MySQL Database Interaction. I added more features to BlazingSoftware and continued testing and fixing errors as I discovered them. In 2017 I decided it was time for a GUI face lift so I completely redesigned the website into the current layout we have now.

The Shutdown

After many years of designing and coding BlazingSoftware's template I decided to shut it down. On August 1st, 2019 Kasic™ made the official announcement that BlazingSoftware had reached its end of life and would be closing. Kasic™ added that though BlazingSoftware will no longer be hosted nor displayed it will live on in future projects that will be created from the ashes of what it once was.

The Present

5 years have passed since BlazingSoftware completely reached its end of life and in that time I’ve experienced multiple project ideas that could have easily been created by using the BlazingSoftware platform as a backbone. I decided to not only revive the project, but also to package it as a proprietary core platform for eGoTech™ development. Today I’m happy to announce the reboot of BlazingSoftware℠ and the debut of its new foundation eT-Core-SDP™ 1.0!

The Future

Now that the 2024 edition of BlazingSoftware℠ has been released the core has been packaged and gifted to my development business eGoTech™. From here eGoTech and I will continue to add features to the platform and use it as a building block for a variety of website types. The system has been converted into one of eGoTech™’s Core Platforms and has been packaged as eT-Core-SDP™, the Software Distribution Platform by eGoTech™, that will be used as a structural base for new and ongoing development for years to come.

Visit BlazingSoftware℠
Visit Kasic™
Visit eGoTech™

Raw HTML or WYSIWYG?

Do you use WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) services to build websites or do you program them from raw coding languages like HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript?

If you know me, you'll know that I love free to use solutions and back when I started learning how to build websites the most free way was to code them. When I started I would use Notepad (text editor) to write them, save them as an '.html' file, and also edit them the same way. Over the years I've tried several different drag-and-drop and WYSIWYG builders to try and minimize time.

Throughout my experiences I personally always felt like I lost a lot of control and that what I published didn't reflect me as a creator.

Too this day I still use basic text-editors to build web pages and type each line of code by hand.

How do you build? What makes you feel comfortable and most creative? What are your thoughts? 💭

I love the "Add Note" feature on Facebook Messenger!

Look I'm not one who gets into things made by Meta. It's not that I hate them I just think some censorship on their platforms are beyond socially ethical. For instance I couldn't add a guy I met who works next door to me because we had no mutual friends, why? Facebook blocked my request saying that I should only add people that I know lol.

Either way it's inevitable to have to use this network if you want to communicate with people you actually know because let's face it, they're not budging.. yet!

So I noticed this note feature in Messenger that let's you put a few words on you display pic. I for one love it! I think it's very innovative (even for Meta) and we need new game changing features like this.

Have you tried this feature? What are your thoughts?

Introducing RefreshOS 1.23

Hello, my name is Jordan Tyler Burchett and I'd like to introduce the Dev community to RefreshOS...

RefreshOS is my design of an easy to use, resource efficient Linux distribution that's user friendly, easily adaptable, and stable.

RefreshOS 1.23 is based on Kubuntu 22.04 LTS which provides a very stable core and Canonical support until 2025.

I'm a very big KDE supporter and I chose the KDE Plasma desktop because it gives RefreshOS inherited features like desktop search and cell phone connection to the desktop thanks to KDE Connect.

This isn't your average KDE distro though!

What sets RefreshOS apart from any other?

 The Avalon Menu

RefreshOS uses a customized version of the Avalon Menu as default over the Plasma Menu.

For me it just feels modern and sophisticated but classic and simple all together.

 Polished

I developed RefreshOS to be user friendly, quick, and clean, with a familiar GUI that's easy to use and easy to customize.

 Familiar Apps

I chose softwares that's familiar, trusted, and resource efficient. The 2 most important applications in a modern day operating system is the web browser and file manager. For this particular task I chose Chromium and Nemo.

 Home / Office

My focus was on home and small office so I included softwares such as: Chromium, Nemo, Deepin apps, LibreOffice, and GIMP

 eGoTech™

RefreshOS is published through my upstart moonlight business eGoTech™.

What is your all time favorite operating system and what makes it the best in your opinion?

Throughout the past few decades there have been several different computer operating systems built for specific purposes. From MacOS, Windows, and Linux to iOS, Android and everything in between.

If you're like me some of these stick out above all others and one will be, in your opinion, the best operating system of its time or maybe even of all time. Let's talk about your first time seeing it and what you used it for.

Hello everyone!

My name is Jordan Tyler Burchett and I am a software and operating systems developer. I'm excited to join the Dev community and look forward to sharing my experiences as well as learning about your projects as well.

I've been programming and studying for over 10 years and have release many websites and PC apps over the years. A couple of years ago I pulled almost all of my content from the internet to focus on building Operating Systems. My first is a Kubuntu based distro called "RefreshOS" that I published under my company eGoTech. I'll be releasing version 2.0 on October 13th and have so much more coming in the next year. Essential cross platform PC apps, search systems, social network platforms, websites and more are gonna be launched from my team in the future and I look forward to showing my vision off and getting your opinions.

Thank you for taking the time to read.. Happy venturing 😊
