I’m Josiah Dhev. I’m 17 years old, a Cybersecurity student at the Federal University Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nigeria, and the founder of StudyCrew and NXGverse.

Today, I want to share the story behind how and why I built StudyCrew, how we are using AI to solve student burnout, and what it’s really like balancing heavy university coursework with running a tech startup.

The Problem: Why Traditional Studying is Broken

Let’s be honest—studying can be incredibly boring.

As a student myself, I noticed a huge trend among my peers: we lose focus easily, procrastinate until the last night before an exam, and struggle to build consistent habits. Yet, the same students can spend hours playing video games or maintaining Snapchat streaks without breaking a sweat.

That’s when it clicked for me. What if we treated learning like a game? What if we made studying addictive?

That spark led me to build StudyCrew.

What is StudyCrew?

StudyCrew is an AI-powered, gamified learning platform designed to help students build unbreakable study habits. Instead of just reading static textbooks, the platform turns active learning into a social, rewarding experience.

Key Features We Built:

AI Tutors: Instant, contextual help when you get stuck on complex coding concepts or calculus formulas.
Gamified Study Streaks: Taking a page out of Duolingo and Snapchat to leverage psychological hooks for positive learning consistency.
Social Learning Hubs: Allowing peers to collaborate, compete on leaderboards, and hold each other accountable.

My Tech Stack & The Building Process

As a cybersecurity major, building the platform meant balancing two major priorities: seamless user experience and strict data security.

Frontend & Prototyping: Rapidly iterated using modern low-code/no-code environments integrated with customized web frameworks to deploy quickly.
AI Engine: Prompt-engineered LLM wrappers optimized to behave as empathetic tutors rather than just answers-generators.
Security First: Implemented strict input sanitization and secure token handling to protect user authentication and academic records.

Balancing the Scale: 17, University, and CEO life

People often ask me how I manage to study full-time for a rigorous cybersecurity degree while acting as CEO for NXGverse and StudyCrew.

The truth? It’s all about aggressive time-blocking and treating my own ventures as practical labs for my degree. When I learn about data privacy laws or network security in my university lectures, I immediately look at how to apply those principles directly into the code base of my products.

What’s Next?

This is just day one for us. Through NXGverse, my ultimate vision is to build an ecosystem that spans artificial intelligence, smart hardware, and immersive tech to change how Africa—and the world—interacts with digital tools.
